Gravity at Natick, MA Studio

Too many owners on this forum only want to wave the Lucid flag and defend Lucid when anyone dare say something negative.
This is nonsense. Please stop repeating it.

Too many people on this forum only want to wave the Cynic flag and defend Cynicism when anyone dare say something positive.

See? Broad strokes cut both ways.

Please avoid this type of rhetoric. It is very annoying and adds nothing to the conversation.

And yes, thanks to @iThinkEV for posting their thoughts and honest opinions. 🙏

Thanks for an honest review of DD2 Pro. Too many owners on this forum only want to wave the Lucid flag and defend Lucid when anyone dare say something negative. Reviews offer little when owners only want to praise their Gravity and ignore the issues. And I get that a $140K investment is huge and owner may not want to acknowledge shortcomings, but doing so helps potential buyers and may even help Lucid improve Gravity.

IMO, Lucid launched Gravity before it was fully baked (HUD issues, HomeLink not available, DD2 Pro limitations, no CarPlay support, wireless phone chargers not working, etc.) When all of those issues have been fixed/resolved, we will consider a Gravity. Until then, we'll stick with our EQS 580 SUV which is 3 years old and doesn't have any of those issues. I don't want to be another early adopter so I'll wait until Gravity is fully baked and ready. And I'll continue to look for honest and helpful reviews. Thanks again iThinkEV.
Yeah I swear I’m not waving the Lucid flag. I’m ok with dealing with some early release teething issues (the Air DE and early 2022GT had MANY more issues than reported with Gravity), but some may not be. I can’t fault Lucid for CarPlay though as they’re on Apple’s timeline, not theirs, same reason why Android Auto took forever. When you have a high volume company like Mercedes or BMW it’s easier to pull off a hiccup free new first generation vehicle due to massive resources. I was surprised to see Volvo has plenty of software issues too though in spite of having plenty of resources (Lucid still has more software problems than Volvo, so it’s not an excuse, just a point of comparison), but still yes I think it’s definitely valid to caution those away from an impulse buy of a Lucid if they cannot tolerate some hiccups and unpredictability, although it does seem they’re working pretty rapidly to whack these software moles. What I’ll have a lower tolerance for this time around with the Gravity is mechanical issues requiring a service visit. By this point manufacturing should know how to put a car together, but given this is an entirely new software 3.0 in an entirely new car I’m not surprised we’re seeing some hiccups, but I’m also sure Lucid did not have the luxury of taking a long time to perfect these things like larger automakers do as well. It’s why ofher automakers are behind Lucid in innovation but also probably ahead in software stability.

First thoughts; I love it, and it's going to take at least a week to get used to!

The handling is amazing, and super tight and responsive compared to the X. I have no concerns about it getting out of the way, but I'm not used to where the edges of the vehicle are yet. The handling is very stiff (in a good way), and the small squircle steering wheel isn't a problem like I thought it might be.

The "overview view" backup camera is incredibly accurate and not something I'm used to. Thankfully there's a normal backup view as well.

As others have mentioned, the Gravity is really, really quiet. Very little road noise, no squeaks, no creaks. It's easy to be going VERY FAST without noticing.

I like the HUD, even in the current state. Only the brightness is adjustable, and it takes a bit of fussing with the seat position to get the clearest view with no reflections (also very dependent on lighting conditions). Right now it shows the side obstruction warnings, speed, speed limit, navigation next turn, lane guidance (not AR), DreamDrive status, and DreamDrive max speed. The right side obstruction warning is a bit off the edge of the screen, so there's clearly something not quite finished here. That said, the data shown is bright, clear, focused at infinity, and having heads-up turn-by-turn is great. I look forward to this eventually reaching its full potential.

No issues with our key (the second is backordered) but we have the other glitches reported in the forums around music apps disappearing, Homelink not installed, etc. I'm not concerned about this. The frunk cushion was included with ours, and I was told to expect other goodies in the future.

Coming from Tesla "FSD", DreamDrive 2 Pro was actually better than I expected once I figured it out. It will keep speed on the road with or without traffic, and will automatically execute lane changes when requested. (It supposedly will also suggest lane changes.) It will also automatically resume from a standstill as long as eyes are looking at the road. I miss having lane selection for off ramps, and I don't yet trust it fully on the lane changes, but I'm sure all this will be coming. It does require "hands on the wheel" but I'm not sure how the detection works -- I don't have to constantly rest my arm and put weight on the wheel to be detected like with Tesla (the most annoying FSD feature).

The UI is a bit bewildering at first because the thumb pads are both click and swipe and you can swipe accidentally when resting your thumbs, but I got pretty comfortable with it after about 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure if it's cool or weird that the nav can appear on both screens at the same time. When on the upper screen it's a bit of stretch to tap and make adjustments to the settings. It's all way snappier to respond than my 2019 X.

If it's been raining and you open the frunk, there are a few spots that drip rain into the frunk (onto the seat). I was surprised by this, as that seems to me something you would be careful to design around. It's not a flood, but there was definitely a bit of dripping as the residual rain came off to the side.

I stopped by a Tesla Supercharger and everything just worked, as did with my Tesla Mobile Charger at home. I had a conversation with another X owner there who was familiar with the Gravity but had only seen them on YouTube so far, and was excited to see one in person!

There are hidden bears in various spots:
Thanks @jered for sharing your impressions and pix! Just curious... have you been able to play with the dynamic ambient lighting yet?

I dunno what's wrong with IthinkEV's Gravity but my test of DDPro2 was as expected and my Homelink and Wireless charging work fine. My inlybissue is the 3rd row AC not working properly. The HUD reflections are entirely dependent on seating position and viewing angle of the driver.

Honestly, I don't even feel like I need a test drive. I've seen endless YouTube videos and many reports here that all testify to the amazing driving experience. I can't imagine there would be anything on the test drive that would make me say "Eh, this sucks, I'm not buying it".

But I would love to see one in person and sit in the driver seat just to get a feel (and try out the seat adjustments). My SA at the Denver showroom said they expect to have one on display sometime in July. I only ordered last month, so I'm assuming 1Q2026 delivery.

As long as you didn’t order one with a HUD, I would be you get it this year.

I initially spec'd it without HUD. But then we bought a Porche Macan EV with HUD as our 2nd car a few weeks ago and I love the HUD in that, so I went ahead and amended the order to include it.

I still wonder if it's really worth it in the Gravity tho, since the IP already sits above the steering wheel (yay!). Not much difference in eye movement and keeping eyes on the road when the IP is that high already.

They did tell me 4-6 months, so maybe. But I adjusted that in my head to 6-8 months, thinking that may be more realistic. I'm really not in a hurry anyway, as we have 1 year of free EA in the Porche so we'll probably use that on our frequent road trips till it runs out.

I turned it on ("Lucid Vibes", I think it's called in the UI) but haven't spent much time in the dark yet. I got in the car last night to retrieve my registration and fuss with settings, and I thought the accent lighting along the front door interior was very striking. It started at a brighter color when I opened the door and then settled to the color I had selected. I also haven't tried any of the Sanctuary Mode stuff at night yet (and it felt a bit silly sitting at the studio wanting to drive).

I think I saw in the documentation that the dynamic lighting is also responsive to DreamDrive obstruction detection. I commute via subway, so I need to set aside some time this week to get in the car and play with more of the features. We have a road trip this weekend so will get more experience by then.
