EA Megathread

Isn't EA upgrading all of their stations to 350kW?
I’d like to see them at a few more cabinets to each station. Higher speeds will help move the line along, but having only four cabinets at many stations seems to be too few to me.

Totally agree. I will gladly take more 150kW cabinets per site vs. less cabinets that are all 350kW.

The 350s they’re upgrading to are all “balanced” meaning 175 each when both cables are taken.

Wouldn't they only get 175kW each if both vehicles are capable of accepting 175kW. If one vehicle has been charging a while and slowed to 100 kW wouldn't the other vehicle on the shared plug be getting 250kW. Or does it only offer 175kW to each even if it's an almost full vehicle only taking 100kW or even kess?

You're correct. It's shared 350 kw, depending on each car's charging ability.

I've had my Pure AWD for almost a year now, and I almost exclusively charge at EA stations following pre-conditioning. What I observed in the first 45 days is what I continue to observe today. It doesn't matter if I'm at a 150 kW charger or a 350 kW charger. It doesn't matter if I'm starting to charge at a 20% SOC or 40% or even 50%. If I'm charging to 80%, it takes me right about 35 minutes to get the job done. The charging rate can start high and drop like a rock, or start lower and drop more gradually, but I'm invariably right around a 50 kWh charge rate when I hit 80%. Any way I slice and dice it, my ass is in the sling for 35 minutes. I can live with that.

Yeah, you’re right.

So, again I'm confused. Can all of the EA chargers with two cables charge two vehicles at the same time? After trying that a couple times, I was told that was not the case, and that the two cables were only there in case one failed. If it's only the newer chargers that can handle two vehicles, then is there a way to know? And while I'm at it... If you start charging with the second cable, what happens to the charger's screen? Does it then split to show the performance/cost data for both vehicles, or just for the first one to start charging? So many questions!

It's not two cables. The older cabinets with two cables were there for redundancy (but created much confusion). The newer cabinets only have one. It's adjacent shared chargers.

Aha! Thanks, @Bobby! Now even I understand! I have not seen that arrangement yet.

BTW, my wife and I were cruising around the La Jolla area for a few days last week, and I was keeping an eye out for you, and other Lucid owners. Surprisingly to me, I did not see one other Lucid.

Next time message me!

Have to report, EA is very good in my locations lately. Lately, meaning, over 3/4 of the year, no errors, no rejected charges, no "please reconnect" messages.
And the speed is good too, even with 3 other cars being plugged in.
Me likey. :)

And I thought it was just me. This has been exactly my experience too. To get to 80%, 30 to 35 minutes. Doesn’t much matter what, where, or how.

I'm with you. EA has been great for me in NC, SC, VA, GA. Maybe I am lucky 🤞

Yes. You want a Bolt on the other at the other stall :)

You are not old.
You are seasoned.
Don’t you occasionally have to reseason and bake it again? @Bus Driver you may be old, but the real question is are you *rusty*

If not, you’re fine. Well-seasoned, even. :)

Unless you are under 20% I would agree a 150 (175) vs a 350 makes almost no difference in the Air. I'm on a road trip now in a 2025 Sierra EV. I haven't found a white paper on the configuration of the battery pack yet (haven't looked much), but it definitely has a split pack. Charging at 175kW+ at over 70% state of charge. EA 350kW are problematic enough that I would rather see 2 (150) for every 350. Now, if they can allow charging with 350 split on 2 cables from one 350, that would be great. I was on a 350 yesterday and someone else tried to use the second cable, the charger would not initiate a second session. For using 2 cables to work the stations are going to need (pull through) configurations like gas stations. Watching people try to get a charging port close enough to cable when the last charger available is not right for them is brutal.

Chevy Bolts are like the Rodney Dangerfield of EVs. “…can’t get no respect!”

God, I’m old…
I had the pleasure of driving a Bolt for a few weeks recently. I totally agree. Underrated car. I'd seriously consider buying one as a second "around the city" car.
