Dual MagSafe phone charging

I received the charger, but it is not working. o_O
It works for about 102 seconds if I wiggle the USB connector side.
Does anyone have the same problem?
On USB-C - yes some people have issues. On USB-A it appears to be working. Did you try the A?
Also that thing with the wiggling is interesting ...can you shoot a close up photo of the USB-C port on the Lucid?

I have tried

both USB-C and USB-A and also tried different chargers, too.

I have triedView attachment 12344 both USB-C and USB-A and also tried different chargers, too.
I now notice that the USB ports on the Lucid have a plastic gap...I wonder if that could be the issue that people with USB-C are having. If anyone has a USB-C to USB-C extender, can you please try and say if it makes a difference?

@xwave - can you confirm it does NOT work on USB-A too? If yes also what phone do you have? Might be a defective unit, although that's rather rare.

Hi:

I have used an extender and it has not made a difference. Unfortunately, when I connect to USB-A and use the adapter, my left side charger doesn’t work. When I use the USB C (w/ or w/o extender), neither side works. Wish I could say otherwise. Your support and response times have been exemplary and much appreciated. But, I’m going to have to return the item, I’m afraid, and wait for the next iteration.

Thanks, good to know and I am sorry to hear about that. Just approved your return request if that was you, if not, just DM me with order #.

As discussed earlier in this thread, our current charging board only supports a handful of charging inputs & protocols so I am not surprised if it doesn't work on most USB-C ports, but it generally has to work on USB-C ports in cars sans some Lucids apparently. (We also do this for Mach-E, Rivian and Model 3/Y and it works fine there, so there is something different with the Lucid that I am yet to find out).
With that said, it must work on the USB-A, and gen2 which is a few months away should work on Lucid too, as gen2 will support almost any charging input under the sun.

What do you suggest? keep this unit or return and wait for gen 2?

Entirely up to you...if it works for you on USB-A and you are OK with the charging power on USB-A (lower than C), feel free to keep. If not, you can of course return and wait for gen2.

Hi. Is there an update on the new charging solution? Thanks

Yes! :) V2 arriving on Wednesday. I expect to be good to go on Thursday or Friday at the latest. Already tested V2 on 2 Lucids one of which had V1 that was impossible to make to work on either port with v1 and works just fine (over a month now) on v2, so I am pretty optimistic about v2 :)

@TWRAPS
Do you intend to make any accommodations for those of us who purchased this for our Lucid.?

Perhaps replacing it with the v2?
Thanks

Any upgrade for the housing? V1 bent from the heat before

Awesome news. Do remind us here when the release happens. I am happy to support you by purchasing v2.

Yes, the issue was not the material but the glue...happened once that I knew and now you are the 2nd one to mention it (for the record, this is out of many many thousands sold over all car lines that we make this for). I found out that, the due to the fact that glue was applied manually by hand, if you applied too much, the glue can cause a thermal deformation. The reason is that the so called glue was not actually glue but acrylic cement that bonds 2 pieces of acrylic by literally melting them. V2 will be made with screws and tension inserts though, as I found out that we can neither scale nor automate well with glue/cement.

PS For the record, we use cast acrylic for this, and the glass transition temp. for cast acrylic is around 200F. If your car cabin gets to that temperature, everything starts to deform as car interiors are largely made out of ABS which has similar glass transition temperature as cast acrylic.

Yup, will do! I've been staying silent recently mostly because I am waiting for v2 myself. The wait is almost over! :) DHL says Wednesday as delivery for the pucks, and I will get the rest done before that so I hope to start rolling on Thursday.

Yes, anyone who has issues with v1 gets a free v2. In all fairness, most people don't actually have issues, it's just that people mostly share when they do have issues. But whoever has issues gets v2 for free of course! v2 is what v1 should've been had I known better about the difference in chargers. I will post an update with instructions and all as soon as we are actually ready to start shipping (hopefully this coming Thursday).

Hey folks

Let me introduce myself - I am Iliya, and I and my wife (Maria) are the founders of TWRAPS. In short we started TWRAPS about 1.5 years ago. We're based in the Bay Area, California and we design, manufacture and ship our products ourselves (i.e. not outsourced abroad) in our facility in Concord, CA.

I noticed a lot of traffic coming in from here today, so I just wanted to drop by and say hi and introduce myself.
I haven't yet registered as a vendor here, but I will soon (so I can officially spam you every now and then 😃), but in the meantime if you have any questions, suggestions or any issues at all please reach out either here or via email at [email protected]. I am always happy to help!

Now for the specific product - the wireless charger, I just wanted to say this - I've only been able to test it on one Lucid Air, so I hope they are all the same. A few things that might cause issues if they are not (or at least the few that come to mind) are:
1. The cable leads or whatever those are, where we snap our charger, might be different between different cars.
2. The whole hole there might be slightly different (I've seen that with many cars unfortunately)
3. The power source might be different. Our charger currently supports 5V and 9V input, and in my experience so far most cars utilize either one of these, but in case Lucid upgraded to 15V only at some point, that won't work currently (but it might via the USB-A port, yet to be tested).

I am just saying this, because we literally just released our first bunch of Lucid products (after spending almost 3 weeks with the Lucid to make them), and I don't yet have enough data, so any feedback is very welcome and know this - if there are any issues I will either fix them and send you a new unit or your money back. That goes for all of our products, for all of the cars that we've developed.

Thanks!
Hi, I ordered the wireless charger and have it on my desk in Amsterdam. Will have my GT, Zenith red, Santa Cruze, 19" delivered next Friday. One of the very first in Netherlands. Looking forward to that! I'll let you know if the charger works. regards, JanKees
