Dual MagSafe phone charging

Thank you!!! As of a few days ago we connect the adapter to the usb-C to prevent exactly that :)
As for the camera clearance - it’s 1/4”, so we should be good until at least iPhone 17 😂
As for Lucid fixing this - I for one disagree! What are we going to sell if they fixed it? 😃
I'm having a strange issue with mine, where the left (driver's) puck doesn't seem to want to charge all the time. The right puck is more consistent, but even that one fails sometimes.

If I plug and unplug the USB from the car a few times, it often will get going. But that's not exactly convenient. Especially with the ridiculous placement of those ports.

I tried with an adapter to attach to the USB-A port, to see if it was my port that was causing issues. But that one is doing the same thing.

I love the design of this thing, but if it won't charge without a lot of jiggling every time I get into the car, I think I'm better off with the OEM charger.

That’s certainly not the expected behavior. If it does the same thing with the usb-A I would think either an issue with the power source or with our pucks. Let’s try this: reboot the car and if that doesn’t fix it please DM me with your order # and I will send you a new unit. Let’s if if the same happens with another unit. Either way we either make this work for you or I will issue a full refund. 👍

After about a week, this is the same experience that I'm getting while plugging into the USB-C port. I've ordered the adapters too but they seem to work for me at 100% success rate (in the past 2 days). The only downside is, with the adapter I'm unable to get 15W charging where I used to get that from the USB-C. Still, any charging is fine for me, so I'm not complaining!

Definitely some sort of USB-C handshake fail going on for me but in your case it might be a hardware issue. I'm curious, are you using iPhone or Android? I'm using Android but wondering if iPhone will have more success

I'm on an iPhone. So I do think it's a hardware issue. @TWRAPS has generously offered to send me a replacement so we can test it and make sure. If that one works, we'll know the first one had an issue. Totally understandable from a new product and an independent small vendor. Stuff happens.

As I always say, judge a vendor by how they behave when something goes wrong, not whether or not something goes wrong. Because something will almost always eventually go wrong.

Thank you so much for the feedback, understanding and patience with this! This is a bit rockier start than I was hoping for, although I've seen worse too 😃

Given all the feedback I've seen so far, it would appear (can't verify yet though) that at some point in time Lucid changed the power source. I used a 2021 First Edition Lucid (so I assume that's an earlier version of their USB-C power source) and it worked there with USB-C. USB-A generally should work for everyone but at a slower charge rate - depending on what protocol of USB they use it would be between 5W and 7.5W total power.
The issue could be either firmware incompatibility or input power incompatibility (for USB-C and some Lucids). As mentioned before, I am already working on gen2 MagSafe pucks and I have one prototype that works on pretty much anything you throw at it in terms of firmware and hardware. The downside of this prototype is that the Y connector is rather big due to a lot more circuit boards. I am now waiting for a simplified version that should also theoretically support everything but with a much smaller Y connector (similar size to the current one), but I am yet to verify that it really does support anything I throw at it. For comparison the current gen1 pucks do not support 15V input and some charging protocols. So far they've been good for the other cars we support but it seems going forward gen2 will be much needed.
Furthermore I am planning to go to BestBuy today after I pick up the kids from school and buy a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and I will test with that too (for the sake of knowing + there is clear demand to support Android too), although at this stage of prototyping and the urgent need to become more widely compatible with input sources I will continue with gen2 and if the Samsung is not working as expected that would be in gen3. Gen2 is expected to be ready to start shipping in about 2 months from now.

With all that said, I just wanted to add this:
* I can't promise this will work with Androids... I see it works for some, and it doesn't for others and I am yet to figure out what's the common denominator.
* With an iPhone, if it does NOT work on USB-A then it's possible you got a faulty unit, just let me know and I will ship a replacement right away.
* With iPhone, if it does NOT work with USB-C but it does work with USB-A, I can offer either a refund or a free replacement when gen2 is ready (about 2 months although I am pushing for faster turnaround but not everything is in my control on this one).

Will you announce here when you get Gen2 done? I'm pretty sure my car is with the new power source. My wife and I both have iPhones, so just let me know

Yes for sure! As a matter of fact I hope to finish testing today or tomorrow and proceed with production but again - about 2 months for that as we have to make these in batches of 2000 so it takes time (+ a new mold needs to be created as the Y connection is going to be a bit bigger).

PS Even on the new power source, gen1 should work fine with USB-A, but charging power will be reduced most notably when charging 2 phones (2 phones will be slow as the max USB 3.2 can give you is 7.5W total which for two phones will be a little over 3W per phone which is rather slow).

I just saw these posts, which explains why my left puck stopped working. I really love the product and can wait for Gen 2. Hopefully the right puck continues to work in the meantime.

This might be defective puck actually... let me DM you so we figure it out. If it's a defective puck I will send you a new unit right away.

Hey @Drendino is this the behavior you observed with your left puck too? Or does your left puck entirely not charge at all? My right puck works fine too but the left puck seems to ramp up the charging speed up to ~800, at which it disconnects itself and reconnects itself a few seconds later, and then repeats.

Can you see if the same behavior is observed using the USB-A port with the provided adapter? That would be an indication if the issue is firmware or hardware.

After a couple of weeks the left puck just stopped working all together. The right puck still works. It’s not intermittent.

Just put in my order! Looking forward to having this well thought out solution for two phones!!! Great job on the design.

Just received my order from TWRAPS. I have new iPhone 14s. One has a cover that is supposed to be magnetic charger compatible, but it it has very little magnetic pull. Not sure how strong the magnet is designed to be. Without the cover, it connects better.

Few questions:
1. Which iPhone case do you use?
2. Is the magnetic attraction similar on both pucks?
3. Do the pucks seem flush against the top plate or they are dipped a little? (just discovered yesterday that on some units they can be a bit improperly positioned and end up being dipped by 0.5mm-1mm, which may affect magnetic attraction. Will be addressing this today, I know why it may happen and how to fix it.)

The case was purchased on Amazon brand name OtoFly. Similar on both pucks but connects much easier on the right puck. Both pucks are flush.
I just purchased the iPhones this week, so I’m not sure what is normal regarding the magnetic pull.
