CarPlay is here! - Megathread

Regarding screen utilization, it could be worse, look at the Caddy Escalade implementation:

CarPlay does not support true Atmos; only the native Tidal car App does.
If you are playing Apple Music or TIDAL Atmos through the phone, it is not true Atmos, regardless of your phone settings.
I am not savvy enough to understand why, but @Bunnylebowski is looking into it .
I’m curious what you’re basing this assertion on. A quick Google search came up with conflicting information on this topic.

There are some people claiming CarPlay supports Atmos but it is incorrect. I did a test today as follows:

1. Connected CarPlay to Lucid with CarPlay appearing on screen and iPhone plugged into USB
2. Opened music app on iPhone and Selected Taylor Swift Flowers in Atmos and clicked play
3. As soon as song began playing Atmos label disappeared and Atmos was not displayed in CarPlay on Lucid screen
4. Downloaded Flowers in Atmos after setting music app to download in Atmos in settings
5. Turned off wifi and cellular data to force Apple Music on iPhone to use downloaded file
6. Confirmed phone was offline as Apple Music stated offline and only offered downloaded contect
7. Played TS Flowers in Atmos on iPhone
8. Connected iPhone to Lucid via USB cable.
9. CarPlay launched on Lucid
10. Started playing Flowers from downloaded Atmos track
11. Atmos logo disappears and Flowers plays without Atmos

I've also tested via Wireless CarPlay. The difference is clearly audible and it unfortunately does not play in Atmos.

If you take a look at the Apple Spatial Audio Page with Atmos it does not mention CarPlay :

The only automotive brand that has Atmos in Apple Music is Mercedes Benz and they have a native app within their UI. It does not play via CarPlay.

If you want Atmos to be supported with your Apple Music account I would suggest sending a polite message to customer service with a feature request of a native Apple Music app. You could also message Apple requesting that they support Atmos via CarPlay.

Just by listening you can tell that over the native Tidal App it is true Atmos whereas through the phone it is not. You can test any number of songs, to me it’s a pretty audible difference. Perhaps I am doing it incorrectly but , I cannot reproduce true Atmos via CarPlay.

Thank you Lucid, that was fast, just had the car over a day! My experience is that it just worked, did not have to unpair bluetooth. Used a 12 Pro Max with iOS 16.3.1

And to confirm what others have just shared, I was not able to output Apple Music Atmos from CP either. There has to be code that allows CP to send the Atmos bitstream to the decoder on the Air. Hopefully this enhancement happens soon!

I’m STILL waiting for the update! and that’s after I had an online Chat with Lucid and they said they’d push the software update right away. Am I missing something?! No update notification appears anywhere…. 😖

Just want to announce a personal thanks to @Drendino for CarPlay Friday movement. Lucid IT probably got fed up of belittling “compatibility” rants.

Miraculously, I did get my CarPlay OTA 2.0.58 at exact Friday 12:00am CST. Really BIG +1 for Lucid software team. Now guys, please leave CarPlay design criticism out and let the team develop and deliver Android Auto ASAP.

Happy Saturday driving!
Thank you, but the CarPlay Friday movement is much larger than any one individual. Together we have changed the world, one Lucid at a time.

I am so pleased with CarPlay that as a gift to Lucid, I vow to STFU for 30 days. 😂

Got the update installed this AM. Here are a few observations/ Issues I had with the experience
  • I had to remove my phone and add it again as the CP option was not showing in my previously BT paired phone. I also removed the mobile key and added it back, which is now no longer working. I'll need to test more.
  • CP interface is pretty small, probably not much bigger than my iPhone Pro Max's screen in landscape. I know that's a limitation on the space available in the right side glass cockpit. Would be good if there was an option to put CP in the pilot panel to get more space. That may be a limitation enforced by Apple due to potential distraction.
  • After I say "Hey Siri" and when Siri speaks, there is buzz/static in the background. I didn't hear this when I played music from SXM or Pandora
  • Because the CP wireless connection creates an AdHoc wifi network between the car and the phone, the phone must use Cellular. I'm at the edge of reception at my house so apps and music would time out on occasion. Will have to test this on the road in better cellular conditions.
  • I had many apps (which honestly I don't even use) that support CP, I went through the list in General->CarPlay to disable those I did not want/use.
  • It would be good to allow grouping of apps (i.e. Music, Podcasts, Navigation, etc) vs, having to scroll to find them. I had to manually arrange the apps in that order so at least it was easier to find them. I whittled the list down to 4 pages! Also moved the Lucid CP app (which just exits back to the Lucid UI) to the end of the list. This is a wasted icon that cannot be removed. The Lucid's HOME button is RIGHT there which makes the CP Lucid button redundant.
  • For those that didn't know, the Lucid Music app will show what is currently playing on CP (similar in other vehicles I've used). This will allow Music metadata display on the center glass cockpit along with independent Lucid app navigation if Lucid updates their UI.
  • I learned that ABRP on CP requires a PAID subscription! Nope .. I do not need yet ANOTHER paid subscription in my life. In the RARE occasions I need the app, I can pick up my phone.
In general, CP is a welcome addition and thanks to Lucid for getting this out there. I'm sure the incessant CP Friday jokes were wearing thin (let the AA Friday taunting begin!). I wonder if Lucid will go all in and implement the next gen CP once available. From the Apple renders it does look pretty awesome!
Carplay did not appear after the update. I removed and added my iphone but it still did not appear. Go to your iphone: Settings>General>CarPlay>Lucid>Turn on Car Play. Now it works.

When an update is pushed to your Air, your Air will download the update on its own. Once the update download is complete the option to install the update will appear so it could take bit. Also if they push it I'm not exactly sure if the push is instant or if it takes a few hours before it begins. You should have it soon.

Nope. Wasn’t showing up in the list.

Does anyone else feel it’s strange that the right side of the cockpit panel when CarPlay is not being used, has the clock and temp on the display twice? Seems like a waste of display real estate

Installed and am up and running. No issues. It did have a very very very slow start up at first. Cockpit and pilot panels were dark, then starry night. It eventually came on. Whew. Then it did not recognize my phone. No CarPlay was available. I completed the steps as outlined in the update. Bingo, it works.

Unless, there are other extreme factors beyond the typical environmental conditions such as hvac, raod, driving, etc, the new CarPlay seems to be draining the battery super fast. Just went on a road trip with full SoC and CarPlay used for both navigation and music. The full trip was about 310 actual miles but battery drain was more than expected. After the first 154miles leg of the trip, battery was down to about 285 miles, I parked at a ChargePoint station to charge and top off to 433miles, and drove back home to 198 miles. That meant if I did not park to charge, the car would not have been able to make the full trip on full charge.

I’ve never noticed this before but has anyone else had the battery preconditioning fan turn on during an OTA? Downloading the OTA now and my kid got alarmed that it sounds like a tornado in my garage

Yes BMS fans kickoff during an update. I have never noticed because I’m no where near my car when performing an update. But other members noticed that tornado sound.

All sub systems of car are being reset to render a fresh new car after install —- your music data buffer, BMS, 12v bus, component modules… the serious awesome reboot after each OTA install.

There is no way this is happening. Was it windy? Outside temp? Elevationd change? CP doesn't add any significant drain on the battery.

At 35% the very loud fan came on full blast, stayed on for 10-12 minutes, slowed down for a few, then off, it’s pretty out of it to say “ no way this is happening “ it does and it’s from the update, my car hasn’t been driven since the day before and it was in a 46° garage, so there was no heat issue other than the download

My response was to the poster who took a roadtrip after installing CarPlay and saying they got less efficiency.

@hydbob was responding to a different post, not about the fans.
