I don’t disagree with you in general, but I’ll challenge this somewhat - take Alexa as a great example. Amazon absolutely had an SLA for Lucid (one would hope) and other such support contracts; but that doesn’t mean that they have to actually invest in Alexa for Auto and make it better. Whenever Alexa broke, Lucid got blamed, whether it was their fault or not. When Alexa couldn’t answer questions - Lucid got blamed.

And if Amazon doesn’t care? Good luck.
I'd argue that Google has a business model around voice assistants (gathering in-home and in-car search data to make their advertising sales more profitable), while Alexa didn't do much financially for Amazon. In any event, it's a complex and fuzzy topic. The enduring Make vs Buy decision, and from Whom. There's no right answer, only educated guesses, then live and adapt with the consequences.

Yup. Couldn’t agree more.

It is a matter of whether the media/navigation experience is something Lucid considers their differentiator. If they do, then it makes sense for them to invest and develop on their own. But if so, they can't leave it half-baked (well, they can, but then the differentiation would be "we suck and the others don't")

Also, when you are a startup with limited resources and too many areas where you want to differentiate, you have to know you can't focus everywhere all at once. So you start with something good enough (like Android Auto) until you can create something that is a true differentiator for you. Creating an entertainment system that does basic andoid auto and apple car play is as commoditized as it gets these days. With the computing hardware Lucid has, it should be a walk in the park doing this. I can see why it takes a few months, but then Lucid has been trying to do this for years now.

I have only had this car for a month now, so I am not as miffed as some of the others are about this. But even running v2.6.0 on my 2025 Air, I usually like using google maps on my phone. Lucid has ways to go before their media/nav is a differentiator.

Does using Google Maps over Carplay do preconditioning or route planning?

No. Lucid has not implemented the features to send vehicle data over CarPlay.
Though if your question was whether CarPlay is capable vs just Lucid's CarPlay, I think that feature only exists for Apple Maps, not Google Maps.

I think Google Maps' EV SOC estimation and route / charge planning is only available via Android Auto, or when running native on AAOS cars, not via Carplay.
