EA is a f**kng joke

With thanksgiving weekend coming up. Is anyone concerned that there won’t be enough EA fast chargers on the peak travel times over the weekend? Has me worried. Seems like people don’t understand charging etiquette.
It would worry me if I was traveling. But I would be more worried if I did not have an Air and only got 250-300 miles of range.

On Sunday, every station from Santa Clarita in LA to the Pacheco Pass had most of the chargers “unavailable” and the one or two at each site that were available were in use. I kept passing them hoping for better luck. Had to wait 30’ in Santa Clarita for someone to leave as I was finally out of juice.

The stations that were unavailable were awaiting upgrades per EA.
sounds like i have to have a backup plan and backup to my backup plan for my trip next week.

Unless you plan to charge after mid-night. It's going to be a nightmare. Regardless of etiquette. There is simply not enough working chargers.

Sounds like they broke, and EA isn't going to fix them, and that will have to wait until EA gets new units and time to install them. Could get worse before it gets better.
FWIW, all 4 EA chargers at my local spot were broken a few weeks ago and now only 1 is broken, so they do seem to be fixing them.

The Santa Clarita location is a disaster. If they're not working, they're power limited or they're full all the time and a local Ioniq 5 frequents the location all too often to make use of the free charging he's secured. Head over to EVGo near the Westfield in Valencia. They're often not full and have 4 x 350Kw chargers

of the four EA locations close to me one is pretty new and is relatively not high usage and has always worked, two locations are semi old and their units are often half down or speed limited. One of these locations just got turned off and they are putting new kiosks in ( slowly it seems as it has been behind chain link fence for two weeks) the last location is high usage and only one out of three kiosks works at any given time. I’ve stopped even going by after seeing the line to use the last three outings.
I’m going to be driving from Ny to Florida next month and I plan to sign up with EV go and charge point ( any others I should know about and what the reliability of these?) because the thought of relying on EA for 1800 miles each way terrifies me
What is a Tesla Tap?

I’ve been in the 30s as well, but been able to get about 3.6-3.8 for my current driving. If you can tolerate it, seat heaters and steering wheel heater over the main heater should allow your efficiency to see what I’m seeing. You should be good!
so meaning you have the AC turned off for heat/cool? And only just heated seats and steering wheel? My issue is our dog travels with us and needs cool temps and fan speed coz he's a Husky

That’s right. Currently my morning temps are in the low to mid 30s (obviously no need for cooling the cab), so I drive with the heated seats and steering wheel. I only use the ac/defrost combo if the glass starts to fog up. I understand the husky needing cooler temps, and again it’s not for everyone. Just saying if you want to increase efficiency when needed, try to not run the main heater (AC uses less power in an EV than the resistance heating does).

Noted. Yeah on a recent road trip from Phoenix to Austin, TX I had an horrible average of I think 2.6 with somewhat of a filled up car with a couple of suitcases, dog in the back with 69F as temps and 6 or 7 fan speed. Up front my wife was 71 or 72F with 3 fan speed (or 4) and I was 74F with like 3 or 2 fan speed. Funny enough on the way back we averaged 3.1-3.2. Now the one big issue - speeds while driving in TX. El Paso onwards East was all nearly 88-90MPH driving speeds. Yeah

Incredible that Quartzsite, AZ EA was empty at 8pm tonight on such a busy travel holiday week. All but one charger operational. Pulled right in. Ironically, there was a line for gasoline.

That’s one thing I loved about Texas when I lived there was the long desolate roads where you could let a car stretch out it’s legs and run. Unfortunately at the time I had a 71 VW superbeetle that had a top speed of 88 mph. Turning on the AC reduced that to 84. Lights and an aftermarket stereo also had a cumulative negative effect. You just don’t think of energy usage / efficiency in an ICE as much as an EV unless you don’t have much HP to start with

fwiw - I’ve charged at two of their (what I think) newer chargers and they have been flawless. To give them the benefit of doubt, I want to say they are on the right track.

I was at Baker, CA yesterday and there was a Tesla station that was packed full. It had 40 chargers and all of them were full with people waiting in a line for their turn. It’s impressive that all 40 of their chargers were working. Couple of Tesla owners came to EA site to charge. EA station had only 12 chargers and more than half of them were unused. Once EV becomes mainstream I don’t know how they are going to keep up with the demand with 12 stations.

12 stations is exceptional for EA. Most have only 4 stations, with a few 6-station locations.

I charged up for only my second time yesterday and it all went perfectly
A lady pulled up next to me in a Mustang and it took like 20 minutes, multiple calls to customer service and a change from one charger to another to get charging going for her
i would note that all 4 folks charging were friendly and wanted to either help and/or chat about charging

So interesting.. I've charged up 7 times now, and every time has been flawless and mostly different locations. One exception was my very first charge, but that was simply a unplug/replug. 30seconds of extra effort.

Im a little worried about our first road trip and if we end up at a remote EA charger with no range left, but Im feeling better about it by the day.

To be fair, I’ve been the car that took 20 mins and different chargers while others have worked around me. It’s pretty magical how EA systems work/don’t work.

Chihuahua is your solution.
Just kidding, just kidding :)

We may have to change the title of this thread if people keep having reasonable experiences with EA.
