Jon Rettinger's 6 Month Review

I was stopped by a Lamborghini driver and as they were walking around the car and looking inside they asked me if I wanted to swap cars. I laughed thinking they were joking and they took serious offense to it. Asked me what was wrong with the Lamborghini. I said “nothing” and they said “so let’s make this happen” at which point I just got really uncomfortable and left 😂
My next door neighbor had a BDay party, they had a guest with Lamborghini visiting, that day I happened to park the car in driveway for couple hours instead of in the garage and went out running errands with my ICE. Neighbor told me his Lamborghini friend and him came to check out and selfie my GT with special license plate. He didn’t know what Lucid was, he is an Audi guy. His friend educated him about Lucid. Anyway, I took him for a test drive, he told me now he would consider EV, back then couple years ago, he picked Audi over Tesla.

Agree. Definitely not a car guy although he has owned his share of EV’s. I guess the real reason he didn’t get the EQS was because he won’t be able to flip it so easily for a profit with the mark up he would have paid.
I think you’re exactly right. It’s a common practice among YouTube car people to flip vehicles they buy so they can afford the next thing they want to review. The InsideEVs crew don’t do this quite as much which I think is great, they seem to keep most of their cars for the long term to see how they hold up.

There is also tax write off advantageous aspect of social media influencer to claim as business expense that we will never know.

Have to say I do agree the inside EV crew are pretty good.

Rettinger posted a video why he sold his Lucid since there was a lot of misrepresentation spin about it. Turns out he absolutely loved the car but wanted to make $, that's all.
Not a bad review. For family with young kids, truck and minivan are really more practical than luxury sedan, and from where I see he lives in YouTube, he is surrounded by off-roading environment which great option R1-T provides. This video made me reconsider R1-S. I don’t think Gravity would be good off-roading. But 2023 and 2024 will be the years of crazy EV options.

Why Jon hates his Lucid - okay, kidding, that was not the headline.

For some reason I'm struggling to believe the bolded line 🍿

Jon explained that the car market was insane and he was getting offers for the car that was much more than he paid for it. So he decided to drive it until he didn’t want to drive it anymore. But he also took delivery of a Rivian R1T and what is interesting is that he thought he would flip the Rivian but instead, he fell in love with the Rivian and decided to flip the Lucid Air over the Rivian.

You guys are reading too much into this. Lol

He said that was early on, I doubt he got the same offer several months later.

+1 ...

- He bought two cars to flip one for a profit.
- Rivian suited his needs better
- Sure if he had the mega big bucks, he would own both & several more.
- Simple

His 6 month review served him/us a purpose. He got his likes; we got to know what the car after 6 months of his POV ownership. End of story.

Good and fair review- I'm over 10k miles now in my Grand Touring. Have had litany of small issues- the most bizarre one was the charging cable would not dislodge from the car (?) - the steering wheel crackles, left turn sensor defective, software bugs, etc. Service has been GREAT- above and beyond - so they're backing the car. RANGE is unbelievable - love love love it. Driving, handling and look of the car terrific, stunning. One thing I truly miss is the Auto-Pilot- I thought I was purchasing a car with this feature- (Highway assist) - and it's promised - but so is the Sun extinguishing one day. It's not their service team- it's their management team- they need to communicate - and they haven't been as far as I can tell. It's the radio silence on this- please just tell me a day, a week, a month, a year- whatever. But nothing. It's Elon promising the Roadster and Cybertruck all over again. It's what made me switch from Tesla- and if Lucid repeats this assumption that we can read their minds- somebody else (Cadillac?)- will lure me away too. Maybe there is a larger issue not discussed (sensors not properly placed, chips installed are defective or too slow, etc) - but I'm left to conjecture. It's just odd. Sad thing is they are losing their first mover status- the time when you can really go viral with little marketing support. Sticking with it and hope they can fulfill their promises- again- so impressed by service.

Actions speak louder than words. He chose the Rivian. Wouldn’t have been smart to trash Lucid for business/professional reasons. Pretty soon he‘ll sell his Rivian for the next best thing. I don’t believe the Interwebs.

You’re right, I’m being harsh, it’s just that the complaints are relentless.

Here was my experience today: decided to drive to Audrain auto museum in Newport where they had an Edsel Citaiton convertible and an original Plymouth SuperBee with the steel spoiler (not fiberglass) making it super rare. On the drive there I had one problem, the next track button on the wheel stopped working briefly so I had to use the screen instead, then it worked again. That’s all. Everything worked, just like it usually does for me. On the way back I also got challenged by a Lambo Aventador SVJ that pulled up beside me at 75mph. Before he had a chance I hit 120mph, and he came up beside me after I’d come to my senses and slowed down and we both laughed. It does suck for some people who have fallen into the delay pit, but the car really isn’t nearly as bad as the posts seem to project. The car is great.
I guess the Lambo driver said he needed to go to an ATM?
