Jon Rettinger's 6 Month Review

Just to clarify, the hold remained greyed out even when you had the car parked at a full stop? And only a reset restored it?
Yeah, it happened as I was getting on the road, so I didn’t put it in park immediately and just used tha brakes if I was at a light and it was rolling. But then I stopped to charge it and while in park it was still greyed out. I didn’t do a reset then because I was charging, and then my kid started crying and my wife was annoyed I wanted to do a reboot so I waited until I got home (2hr of driving), and then did a deep reboot where I locked it with the valet card and walked away for 30 min, then came back and it allowed me to put it back into hold.

Oh I noticed that the modes other than smooth have this issue so be sure to also pay attention to that. I noticed that when I first put it in swift mode and took my foot off the accelerator, the car kept rolling forward until I stepped on the brake vs Smooth where it stops completely. Therefore try smooth when you are exiting entering the garage or on hills.
Yeah, under settings>vehicle settings>drive settings, make sure and switch the button above creep from roll to hold. I think all new vehicles are delivered in roll mode and soft regen anticipating most owners are new to EVs. I love strong regen and got so used to one pedal driving with hold that I got really confused when it some how switched back to roll, I had totally forgot the car had a mode where you could switch it out of hold and had a hard time finding it.

These are very, very serious issues. With all the other issues share by multiple owners, I am getting more and more concerned every day. Lucid really needs to get its act together before someone gets killed and a major lawsuit results
Well the only way this would cause a collision is at very low almost parked speed since you’d expect to be stationary because of brake hold but instead were rolling, which is an option you can select for. Mine just didn’t allow me to select it and undid my previous preference. Wouldn’t kill anyone but could roll backwards into another vehicle, and I can very much picture this happening to a driver who thought they had stopped and picked up their phone, slowing down their reaction time to apply the physical brakes. This isn’t like a Tesla deciding to phantom brake to a stop in the middle of the highway, but nonetheless could cause an accident.

You guys now just cautioned me not to put HIGH regenerative setting when driving in hilly areas.
High doesn’t affect brake hold as far as I know, choosing hold versus roll under drive settings does. I love high regen on the hills near me! One time I drove down a mountain in NY and added 12 miles of range!

It is set to hold and does but not in swift or sprint modes so will look into that.

Dallas will be hard with heavy traffic. Try weekend early morning Toll way to airport. And don’t get ticket. 😂
Yeah, I have lived here 34 years lol. I know the City and the Highways and the Toll Roads. Probably better to drive the opposite direction on Sam Rayburn towards I-75. I am in no rush.

I will call them tomorrow. It does need to get addressed though as it was a complete surprise. I’d live with the occasional rare glitch of this if the car would have given a warning or some status alert that the vehicle no longer had brake hold, but there was zero alert, caught by surprise when it rolled backwards, and then I checked the menu and it was grayed out, couldn’t switch back to hold. Where I live in Providence RI is actually called College Hill, and parts are just like San Francisco! Very strong chance of rolling backwards without brake hold!
any updates on this bunny?

I talked to them this AM. They’re pulling logs and investigating and forwarding it to software team, and they acknowledged that it could cause a collision, seemed to be taking it pretty seriously and were appreciative I reported it. Hasn’t happened since, brake hold works perfectly.

Rettinger posted a video why he sold his Lucid since there was a lot of misrepresentation spin about it. Turns out he absolutely loved the car but wanted to make $, that's all.
I don't think that you can sell a Lucid and make a profit any longer.

I agree with this. Even if he did, i don’t think it would amount to much. the Rivian and Lucid are for totally two different purposes, though the former could double as a family car. I sus he just likes the Rivian more.

I was offered $185K for my DE-P by a high-end car dealer a month ago but I think that the market is softer now. I have $190K in my car so that would have been a small loss.

I was stopped by a Lamborghini driver and as they were walking around the car and looking inside they asked me if I wanted to swap cars. I laughed thinking they were joking and they took serious offense to it. Asked me what was wrong with the Lamborghini. I said “nothing” and they said “so let’s make this happen” at which point I just got really uncomfortable and left 😂

I didn't catch where he said he made dollars.

Exactly.

Say, no offense, but it’s not electric.

He said he sold it because he’s a business guy and if he has opportunity to make money he’s probably gonna take it. I’m not sure how long ago it was he sold it, it takes time to make some of these videos, and maybe he was able to get extra $ for it because he’s more recognizable to some people?

He may be a business guy, and an IT guy, but he’s definitely not a car guy. I don’t put a lot of stock in what he says, even though his opinion of the Lucid Air itself is a highly favourable one.

Have you tried the temperature hold feature when you exit the car? It’s the circle/thermometer icon at the top in the climate menu. It will hold the temp for 45 min while you’re not in the car, make cooling when you get back in more effective.

I tried this feature the other day for the first time in real-world conditions (i. e., not while experimenting with it in the garage). I was out of the car for 40 minutes while it was parked on the open top deck of a parking garage in blazing south Florida sun. When I got back to the car, the interior was perfectly comfortable.

However, five minutes later the feature timed out while I was driving down the interstate, shutting the whole A/C system down. It took several punches on the "Auto" button of the A/C controls to get the system running again.

It seems to me to be a feature with mechanicals that are up to the task but flaky software programming that impedes its effectiveness . . . like so many other aspects of the car.

Also the car should never ask for a PIN when you get in, it’s like it’s stuck in valet mode. Is your fob on you at all times?

Our car has twice asked me for a PIN when I get in with the key fob in my pocket. Both times I just ignored the request, put the car in gear, and drove off. Again -- flaky software.

Well he just flipped his car. Was hoping he would stick with it so we can see the progress documented on YouTube.

Agree. Definitely not a car guy although he has owned his share of EV’s. I guess the real reason he didn’t get the EQS was because he won’t be able to flip it so easily for a profit with the mark up he would have paid.
