Arizona

Hey Arizona people, thinking about ordering a Grand Touring, what do you think of the glass roof? I am still on the fence trying to convince myself it will be okay but besides the heat I am afraid it will get chipped, got about 3 chips in my current model S which I haven't changed winsheld since 2019.

Any thoughts?
I have only driven it in when 106 degrees out and the glass does get very hot but transmitted heat is not bad. I would go for the glass roof. Ask me again when we hit 118 and I may change my mind. Some people have tinted their windshields, I have not and probably will not. Rock chips are an issue @Maverick can tell you first hand about windshield replacement cost.

The other thing to remember and it was brought up in another thread is that the auto setting on the AC does not set re-circulation. The cooling really improves with the re-circulation turned on.

This is making me think stay with the Pure lol, but I need to do more research.

Haven't tried it personally but the Xpel Prime XR Plus looks like a good investment here in the desert. Here's a test.

I seem to be in the minority, but I really haven't had a problem with heat through the glass roof, and I pretty much never notice the sun overhead. Yes, it will get hot to the touch, but if you're not needing to be in hypermiling mode and can crank up the AC (like any car when starting out initially), it will cool down nicely. As @Adnillien said, the recirculation also helps.

As for windshield chips, I guess I'd need to know the difference in cost in replacing the GT one or a non-glass roof one, so that could definitely be a factor. I will say that I won't invest in windshield tinting simply because I don't want to add that replacement expense. Maybe if I can go a year without a chip, I might reconsider.

You have done 1 full replacement already like for 2500$, and insurance covered most of it?

I'm having the replacement done next week. Yes, insurance should cover it as AZ is a no-deductible, full windshield replacement state. BUT I'm sure if I have a few more, my insurance company will likely drop me. Don't know that for sure, but when a windshield replacement costs them more than what I pay for all three cars combined, I can't imagine they'd want to retain me...especially since one of my other cars is a Jeep.

I had my recall inspection done today, I saw @AZAirGT car at the service center. It looked great. While waiting, another owner came in for the recall inspection. His was also red but wrapped with a matte PPF. It was nice to see the two side-by-side. I know some people would disagree but the matte finish ruined all of the depth to the red. I did not like it.

I would think the matte PPF would lighten the color a bit. At least it’s removable.

Hey to those in Arizona, I just took delivery of my AGT. And I am seeing 18-20mi loss of my car just sitting in my garage after charge. Keys are far away and car is shown asleep. Didn’t know if this is mainly due to 105+ temps at night still here. Are any of you seeing this much loss? I can see 5 miles or so but this seems like too much. Let me know your thoughts.

Your garage is 105? Also if you hear fans running its because the batteries are too hot. So yea that range loss should be normal.

I typically see about 1% (3-4 miles). The only time that I have seen more is when I DC fast charged and only drove about 13 miles after charging. That was definitely a case of the battery being hot.

No but it’s about 90-95. So still hot. It’s not conditioned

I have been on the forum for several months but I think this is my first comment on the Southwest site or more specifically AZ. Ordered a AGT on 11 April. Red Tahoe 21s. The last I heard from the DA (3 weeks ago) he was “estimating” late July or August delivery. My question to the AZ group and more specifically Phoenix/Scottsdale is where do you recommend I do the PPF and ceramic? Would love to get together for breakfast and talk Lucid and see some of the cars especially red. Big decision to move forward but glad I did.

If you would like to see a Zenith Red AGT with 21” inch wheels go to Certified Benz and Beemer in Phoenix (near the Desert Botanical Gardens). They have one on the showroom floor. They are asking $169,500 (after two price reductions).
