Dash cam

Do you know if the battery extender works with other dashcams? Someone just did a hit and run to my parked Lucid now I'm looking for a solution to continue recording for my dashcams.
 
If only we can figure out how to connect the hard wire to the car from the trunk, the hard wire seems to be a better option.

The radar detector in my DE is hard wired to the fuse box.
 
Really could've use this today. Had a jackass in a lifted Jeep try to pass me in the rain on the 57 fwy, and he lost control within inches of the car. He spun three times and ended up stopped at the middle divider. The only reason he didn't flip was because of the lack of traction. I'm once again grateful for how sure-footed the Air is...
 
More than once the ability to dart the air out of the way of danger has come in handy for me. You don’t realize how nimble this thing is until you have to suddenly jerk the wheel, and the car does exactly what it’s told. On the way to bringing my kid to daycare the other day someone at the intersection approaching from my right didn’t see the stop sign and I was easily able to zip left and accelerate out of the way. In a slower less responsive or top heavy car the back right of the vehicle would have definitely gotten hit.

I realize I'm late to this party but my husband installed a dashcam back in December before our big road trip. We did NOT want to go 4500 miles without one and had no interest in waiting for the unknown! A dash cam footage was well worth it on a previous car that got totaled (it clearly showed the other driver at fault who initially insisted it was my husband at fault for that accident)

yea, I've had one in my car for 2 years now and never looked back or got stuck waiting and wanting =)
 
Does anyone have a recommendation for front and rear dashcams with parked mode (passive impact detection)?

Is there one that would work just from the front and rear USB ports?

Does anyone have a guide or detailed pictures showing how they routed from the trunk port to the rear dashcam?

Never done this before and want to get it right without damaging the upholstery of the car.
 
I know it's an old thread but I am thinking of installing a dashcam. We have a leftover Thinkware U1000 which will only work in the center below the camera box (I was hoping for mounting in on the passenger side but too much blackout on screen from the plastic cover in the center). Which made me rethink as a saw a review of the new Viofo A329 that seems to work fine mounted on the side of the camera cover.
Glass roof, so a little more work involved. I usually remove the A-pillar covers when installing these to make sure the cables could never interfere with the window airbags. Has anyone ever removed these? Are they just clipped in or is there a risk of breaking any clips?

The plan is no hardwire, just going to the rear 12V outlet and then use a battery pack in the trunk.

Last but not least it would be ideal not to use a dashcam at all if Lucid would have a Tesla-like software option. Any chance of this maybe with the Gravity coming online?

Just do it, don't hesitate.
Some people here say, it's not necessary. Don't listen to them, as they are short sighted. I guess, they never had to prove to their insurance company that it wasn't their fault.

I have the Viofo A119 with the glass roof. I ran the wire down the center strip with the hazard lights, around over to the b-pillar on the passenger side and then down to go under floor mat and plug into the usb on the back of the center console.

I wonder if running the wire down the B-pillar actually causes issues with the window airbags since it's an airbag curtain that unrolls from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. If the dashcam cable runs on top of the rolled-up airbag inside the b-pillar, it will prevent it to properly unroll.
For that reason it's key that the cable runs above the airbag all the way down to the dashboard or to fit it behind the airbag.

Did you remove the interior roof panels to run the cable?

I didn't remove anything and ran down the backside of the b-pillar and tucked under door insulation trim so I don't think it will interfere with airbag.
