I folded down my rear seat to pack my car completely full with gear to go camping for a few days. And for the vast majority of my hour drive to the campsite, I've been getting the rear center seat belt alert telling me that there's somebody sitting in that seat who's not buckled up. Obviously, nobody can be sitting in the seat because it is folded flat. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how do you fix it?

I wish there was an option to indicate baby car seat or turn of rear seat alarm. As of now the only option I can think of is to enter in google or amazon "seat belt alarm silencer".

I have loaded the car with the seats folded down and never got the alarm. Strange. Did you have anything stuck under the folded seats? Maybe pressing down oddly on a sensor?

I have also never had this happen. The fix, though, is buckle the seatbelts (and/or make sure nothing is pressing on the sensor and/or get it checked out).

Buckle the belts before folding the seats down?

Sure, why not. The reason you're getting an alert is presumably because it thinks there is a passenger there, due to sensing weight on the sensor, which should be somewhere around the middle of the seat. If there is a weight, it will loudly protest that said weight should be buckled in. It's a law in every state but NH, after all!

Anyway, if there is nothing pressing into your sensor, you probably have an issue with your sensor and should get it checked out. The workaround for now, though, would simply be to buckle the seatbelts of the invisible and extremely squished child you've got under that massive load.

In Pennsylvania only children under 18 are required to wear seat belts in the back. Adults are not required. Everyone has to wear seat belts in the front. This is according to PA Department of Transportation website.

Well if Pennsylvania jumped off a bridge I wouldn't do that either :P

I suppose that would work for the middle seat but not either side because of the way the belts come out of the pillars.

But why on earth wouldn't the sensors be disabled when the seat is folded down?

They’re supposed to be. That’s why I’m thinking something is wrong with yours.

All I am saying is that it would be nice to have an option to turn off the seat belt warning in the back since some states do not require wearing them.

And how would your car know which state you were in? What if you drive across state lines? Would the sensors then have to turn back on?

Purly responsibility of a driver. Folks can still buckle up without the reminder.
