2024 Grand Touring changes and release

Still impressive, but i think taycan is faster

Numbers i've found based on EPA. If you add 25% to Taycan and subtract 25% from the Air, Taycan would be the fastest. But top 3 is still great! Lucid is quite a bit cheaper and larger than the Taycan too. Says a lot about it's utilityđź‘Ť
According to OutofSpec's tests..

Looks like Plaid is the fastest in 15 mins, followed by Ioniq 6 then Taycan.

Lucid wasnt measured here.

Oh this is awesome! I would use the 0-20 minute metric for optimized long distance driving. Which in that case Taycan comes in 2nd. Lucid Air Dream would do pretty well, maybe even top the chart. It seems to do 50% in 20 minutes from the documented curves. The GT and Touring I think would not be competitive, they charge much slower than the Dream, and are less efficient in highway cruising

The touring I know is much slower, but the GT should be the same!

Also, its interesting how the taycan didnt win that..

For some reason no one documents Lucid Air charging times for some reason lol. There are bits of info everywhere. From what I've seen:

The Lucid Air Dream from youtube video evidence does 0-90% in a blistering 48 minutes!!

The Lucid Air GT tested by Car and Driver did 0-150 miles in 12 minutes which is good...but 90% in 80 minutes...huuuuge difference.

GT ramps down very quickly after that initial 30% and same with touring which follows the same curve as the GT but proportionally ~20% slower.

This agency lists Lucid AGT as top in 20 minutes with Tesla second. Seems they didn’t test Porsche but I imagine them second or third for sure with Audi e-tron GT as they use the same setup

I lied. Porsche was tested.

This is not a good test, as it's using rated miles for the comparison. Out Of Spec is using real world 70mph range

It seems that there is a LOT of confusion over charging speeds across the industry. Just this last weekend when we got financially raped regarding the EV9 by a Kia dealership(dont ask lol), the rep told me it had "350 kw" charging(it doesnt, 800v doesnt automatically gurantee that), and that you could get 10-80 in 20 minutes(based on that 350 kw estimate, which doesnt even account for a charging curve). Even Lucid is guilty of this, as their 20-80 assumes that you are getting the 350 kw the whole time!

Technically though, the GT and the dream should be the same. Many of our forum members have also stated the same!

Technically they shouldn't since they have different batteries. I haven't seen any posts claiming this either. In fact every DC fast charge post i've seen in this forum is along the lines of "why does my lucid air gt drop down to 100kw charging rate so quickly??" lol

In fact the link posted above from insideev says the Lucid Air gains a "rated" 200 miles or 40% in 20 minutes. This is much slower than the Dream. Which will do 55% in 20 minutes

So does the dream charge far better than the AGT in terms of speed or was that just some one off tests being wrong due to charger issues and or I consistencies with preconditioning.

Well, with certainty I can say that their max charging rates are identical. The question of whether the battery is remains to be seen though, as it uses that "special" samsung chemistry as you mentioned! On this forum though, those posts are usually regarding the charging curve that is very conservative, likely for longevity reasons. Somebody on here hit 343 kwh in a GT for example!

It's not a one off. I'd love to see one of our GT owners post a video or data from their charging curve , but we have many people on the forum complaining about the fast charge performance, and we also have evidence from car and driver and insideev (that you posted) on charging performance of a GT.

If someone has a video showing the GT charging as fast as the dream here, I'd love to see it.

Yes like I've already stated, the GT can get very fast in the initial 10-20% charge, but it tapers off aggressively after that. The Car and Driver 0-150 miles in 12 minutes and pictures of charging rate by forum members at empty prove your point.

But the 0-50% or 0-80% charge rate on the GT is slow, that's proven too. The Dream seems to have no issue with longevity using a faster charging curve.

Same would love to see it. Seems impossible to find people recording the charging curve for anything beyond the Dreams a few years back. Not sure why. I know signet surge plagued tons last year so I wonder if that is why.

There is some great info here from multiple Touring owners showing the slow charge curve of the Touring
Reduced fast charging performance | Lucid Owners - Lucid Motors Forum

Bunch of Dream/GTP owners chiming in that OP should get his car checked, but not a single GT owner posted any comparisons. I have to wonder if there are no active GT owners in this forum?

I’ve seen outofspec hit high numbers even at 20% SoC in past videos and some places like Edmunds have done charging tests as well on GTs.

Happy to see others have found that thread helpful! I think it's been well-observed that there was a definite weakening of the charging curve due to software updates at least for Touring and likely Pure. Anecdotally, I think that similar changes are being seen with GT. Interestingly, @Tesla2Lucid recently showed impressive speeds with their DE that look closer to the early charging curve tests. The DE battery cells are different from the rest of the lineup, so that may be the reason they're still seeing unchanged charging speeds. I still would love to see more data from GT, DE, and even Sapphire owners.

Thanks! Just looked up Edmunds Charging test. Lucid Air GT does quite poorly as suspected. Comes in #18. Great peak but mediocre average

Lol of course…more DE charge curves. I think GT/T owners are too embarrassed to post lol

Not necessarily. I have a GT. But I haven't really kept track of things that carefully. We normally go to the charger at about 20% and charge up to 80%, and it takes about 35 minutes.

Eh, nothing to be embarrassed about. I trust Lucid made these changes for good reason, even if I do wish they had been more transparent about it, and I think the cars still charge acceptably well even after the changes. I do have a fellow GT owner that's local that I could maybe setup a side-by-side comparison with if there's any interest.
