Why speed limit difference Air Grand Touring vs Air Touring?

Sorry, but this is just nonsense.

I drive the car at 100 to 142 miles an hour on the Autobahn every day. The Pure does the same speed and the GT goes 170 mph which I have also driven. There is no safety limit here.
The tires are rated for those speeds and above and the software limits are set by Lucid and that’s that. Depending on the wheel size, Lucid uses the same tires across their models.
I talked with Peter at the LA Auto Show for the Gravity. He mentioned the only reason for the limiter is the tires. Their testing early on had much higher speeds than the 168.

To clarify, I'm not saying the safety limit is the exact speed set by Lucid. At least for the GT and GT-P, our conversation sounded safety related due to tires as a prevention for a higher cap. The car itself can handle the higher speeds and achieve them with the motors.

Understood but it misses the point of the thread.
Lucid uses the same tires regardless of model (varies by wheel size) so a difference in top speed between models has nothing to do with it (Sapphire excluded of course).

The standard process in German cars for example is that the top speed is limited when tires are installed that have a lower speed rating.

That is done by the user and they just select the speed limit recommended (let’s say all seasons for 130 mph). If entered, the car will either provide a speed warning or max out at the chosen speed.

None of that matters in the US as the speed limit is well below those tire limits anyways ;)

That said, 168mph for tires isn’t very high. High performance rubber is usually good for 186mph+ but it’s for non sports cars due to short tire life and limited temperature use (plus they are not smooth riding until warmed up).

The highest speed I've seen (allegedly 🤫) is 145 mph in my Touring with 20" OEM wheels and tires. It's electronically limited, and it's noticeable when the acceleration abruptly lets up. You can tell the car wants to and can go faster, so a bit disappointing, in my opinion.
Same here..Touring with 20" ...I found out that at 145mp it wouldn't go higher..I didn't know at the time it was limited to 145..agreed that it's deceptively easy to get to 145..I did it with 3 other passengers in the car too...I'm lucky that the ticket I got a few mins later was at 85mph in a 65 zone...otherwise I'd be taking an Uber home..
