The number of times I've stood outside my car with my FOB and my PAAK without the doors allowing me in is capital Embarrassing.

Seriously. It's a good 15% of the time. I have my phone as a key and my FOB, often separate, and I walk up and nothing. It's not cold today it's 70f. My battery was just changed last week AND I got a faraday bag because of course you need that nowadays?

I feel SO stupid walking up to my $125k car and the doors not allowing me in. The mirrors don't move, the handles don't move, and I'm just standing there like an idiot pushing a handle that won't do anything.

This is my only complaint about this car in six weeks, but damn. It's a big one. I'm not comfortable without my FOB because the PAAK is unreliable, but so is the FOB. Less than six weeks in and I already had to change the battery.

Let me in my F'kin car ya?

Am I alone here?

Maybe. My fob unlocks the car 90+ percent of the time. I need to press the door handle the other 10% of the time.
I don't think that carrying the fob while using the PAAK is a good idea. I only use the fob as it is more reliable for me. The battery generally lasts 3-6 months.

I wish I could trust the car without my FOB. The PAAK has a much higher failure rate.

It's better to carry the key card as a backup. No interference there. Plus, as long as you and the car have internet access (not underground or very remote), you can unlock it using the app as a backup. It just takes an extra minute.

I carry both the FOB and PAAK and don’t have any issues unlocking my car; however, when the FOB battery becomes too low, I do press the handle to successfully unlock. I believe pressing the button activates from the PAAK. The FOB needs to be redesigned; the battery doesn’t have a good usable life cycle.

There is something wrong with your car. It should not take more than a couple seconds to with either fob or phone, though you may need to wake up the phone (not even unlock it) for it to work.

If it is consistently not unlocking, there is something wrong and you should call service.

Does it unlock instantly if you use the fob button, or the keycard? If it doesn’t for those, it is 100% an issue with your car specifically.

Also, to state the obvious, make sure you have passive unlock set to On.

The key fob conundrum: a rite of passage

My solution is not ideal. But I took the battery out of the fob and carry them both in a Faraday bag (in my work backpack). So, if the mobile key doesn't work, I have that backup. Although, per @Bobby video, you can use the fob without a battery like the key card and then put in your PIN

This is definitely something to consider… the delays with waking and opening…I’ve become hyper aware of trying to wake up the car before needing it to unlock… more out of necessity.

I had similar experiences. They have replaced both fobs. We'll see if it works better now. It's been in the shop for a bit over one week while they replaced many parts to correct issues. Complicated vehicle. Much to go wrong...

What I noticed is if I have my phone in my pocket it takes a good 5-10 seconds to unlock, sometimes more.
However, if I have my phone out and held up to the middle of the window, it opens right away.

Lol, no sir, you're not alone.

I'm in the same exact boat. I've had my '24 Touring since April and the abysmal locking/unlocking functionality of this car is absolutely, positively, the most aggravating part of the car.

The FOB doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's better than PaaK. The FOB routinely fails to open the frunk within the first two attempts. Rarely will the FOB have the door handles presented by the time I get to them. At best, they'll present after standing at the door for a second or two, but never as I approach the car.

PaaK is routinely non-functional, easily failing to open the car 80% of the time. I've tried it all - making sure the app and iPhone are on the latest versions, faraday pouches, fresh batteries, whatever. It just is what it is - a poorly engineered system that Lucid doesn't have the resources to fix. If they did, this problem wouldn't have persisted over multiple model years.

I wish I had a fix for you, but I don't. I brought it up with service a couple of weeks ago while I was getting a bunch of other stuff fixed and they couldn't "replicate the problem" since they obviously didn't have my phone to test it. Yeah, that got an eyeroll from me. They didn't seem too motivated to try and diagnose it after dropping my car back off either, so don't hold your breath on ever getting PaaK to work reliably is all I'm trying to say.

I’m a fob user and keep the fob in a faraday pouch. When I enter the garage, I remove the fob from the pouch and the vehicle wakes up in about 2 seconds and unlocks. The pouch also extends the battery life to 6-ish months

I guess I'm fortunate - I carry my phone exclusively and only take my FOB when I go on a run (it always works). The phone opens the car at a distance 80% of the time, sometmes I have to tap it in my scrub pocket and it'll open within a couple of seconds. The ONLY time the phone does NOT work, is when I take my wife out for dinner!! Reliably, every time, preferrably when it rains... some people must just send off funky vibes... 😋

Why not just carry the key card as the backup? It's much thinner.

Try putting a small piece of paper in between the cap and the battery to force it to create better contact. it seems that the battery makes poor contact for some reason. I've done this and it's increased the reliability to nearly 100%. Simple trick, was like 50% before and exactly like you described. Also, if anything is in front of your fob like a wallet, it will interfere. It's finicky for sure, give it the best chance to work.

Mobile key also works great keep app open and Bluetooth and location on, works better than fob

No, you are not alone. It’s a long standing problem here on the forums and you can find a lot of threads about it. I’ve had my air for a year and a half now. There’s 2 things that are simply unacceptably poor that this car does and they are both things I definitely took for granted:
1) Unlocking/Locking with any method just blows plain and simple. Sure you can do a million work around to get it somewhat reliable but it’s crazy the lengths we have to go for something so simple.
2) The AC or glass does not keep up with AZ weather which ironically is where these cars are built. The summers in this car are brutal and that’s even after I bought the screen shades and tinted the car.

Everything else, in general, is amazing about the vehicle but at the end of the day you have to figure out if these 2 (major) compromises are worth the rest of the experience. For me, it is but I also have another vehicle that I drive often in the summer months.
