Pure vs grand touring

The car is lighter but very little of the weight difference is actually in the front.
The front motor is only 68lbs from what I recall (so with driveshafts expect maybe 100lbs) and the majority is in the missing battery cells which are located in the rear footwell. So that is centered weight…
The current Air motors weight 163 lbs. It is the future Atlas motor that weighs less.

My air pure awd 19 inch wheels was in service recently and I had 2 different loaners. Both GT and one had 19inch wheels and the other 21. The feel of the 19inch one was identical to mine. From Millbrae to Fremont 30 miles in traffic i drove all the 3 in hot weather 90 to 95F sunny. The 21inch had significantly more road tire noise. 3.1 miles per KWh. The 19 gave 3.5. My pure gave 4. I personally like the motor whine feedback. I never drove rwd but I hear that it is quieter due to the lack of front motor and could appeal to those who drove the 8 cylinder rwd cars. BTW I could absolutely feel the sun in gt and both had glass roof. I even wore a hat in one.

Ok I am sure this will piss some people off? But I bought a pure ten days ago.. and I love it.. it’s quick , fun to drive, and smoother.. runs nearly silent.. I like the body color roof as opposed to the two tone look.
I know I am late responding but I feel compelled to do so. I complete agree with you. I was on the waiting list for a Pure for several years before I gave up and got the Genesis but I didn't want one with a glass roof and I thought the two tone look made it appear to be an old person's car. The metal roofed single color Pure is aesthetically sweet.

To each their own 😁
The car, despite its many teething issues, is amazing.

Gt is on 19s and my pure has the 20s , so pirelles with more sidewall on GT vs Michelin tires with less sidewall on the pure
Having Pure AWD on 19s and having driven a loaner on 21s, it’s surprising to hear your 20s are smoother than the 19s. Must be the weight of the GT.

Mine went in for service and as a loaner they gave me a grand touring… and first off launch mode in the grand touring is scary fun… but other than that I found the air suspension to be bumpier than the traditional suspension on the pure, the motor whine from the front engine is obnoxious, I hate the glass roof, and acceleration and deceleration are not as smooth … plus the vehicle feels heavy .. traction and handling are of course much better with awd, and the power of the two motors in mind bending

I was legit stoked when they told me I wood get to drive a grand touring for a week.. I am shocked to say I much prefer the rws pure version to awd .. the pure feels like a luxury sports car.. I am not sure what to call the grand touring other incredibly fun but not refined
I don't (yet) own a Lucid, but I'm researching it. I've driven one and, Wow. I think that a used Pure is the best car for me. Here's why. First, the depreciation; the price on a year-old car might be $15k less than new. Second, the 19-inch wheels look good to me, they have a better ride and are less prone to damage. There's roughly an 800-lb weight difference between the Pure and the Sapphire (!). The glass roof is very Jetsons-looking but the steel roof is better in the sun, and the audio and noise is better. The tires also will last longer on a RWD car with lower weight and down 300 hp or so. The RWD "small" motor will still be the fastest-accelerating car I've ever owned and I don't care too much about autocross or drag racing. I almost never drive 350 miles in a day and can charge at home 99% of the time. I live in Southern CA and don't need all wheel drive, so that's a little quieter.
I'd like to find one with the Pro sound option; that has some value. I've owned many cars with leather seats, and a quality synthetic seat is fine, in fact, better than a cheap leather seat.

Check Costco early next summer. They sell a windshield + side window set of shades for $12 but on sale for $10. Be sure to get the Jumbo; they fit the windshield almost like they were made for the Lucid. The side window shades are too tall for the windows but an almost perfect fit for the overhead glass canopy. I've had them on since I've owned my Touring. My BIL has the same car but he hasn't bothered with the shades and keeps complaining about his bald head being heated lol! For $12 ($10 on sale) it's cheap and durable. Plus, Costco will take them back if you don't like them. I'm going to pick up a spare set next year (maybe) but I don't see any sign of wear/tear on mine and it's been 2 summers in Vegas sun and heat. For $10, why not?

Yes. Better than wearing a hat I guess. Luckily once I have my pure back from service I will be a happy camper.

Agree, Pure is the best option for most, unless you want AWD and more power that you wont use.

I have Grand Touring 21”, I like how it drive. I wanted a Pure for another family member, but we waited so long and just settled for Polestar2.
How do you like your Polestar 2? I have a 2024 Polestar 2 Performance and love it! I come from a long line of Cadillacs and miss the larger size, so I'm thinking that a Lucid Air will replace my P2 when the lease is up...

You'll definitely appreciate the size and room of the Air

Just last week I test drove both the Pure RWD (19" wheels) and a Touring (20" wheels). I agree with the OP about ride quality and significantly preferred the road feel of the Pure. It felt much more connected to the road, more tossable and just plain, more fun. I arrived at the test drive fully expecting to go for the Touring because of the AWD. I drove the Touring first and it was my first time driving a Lucid Air and I liked it, but not enough to want to drive it every day. I assumed (wrongly) that I would like the Pure LESS, but it ended up being exactly the opposite...so much so that I ordered one. I am coming from a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance and generally prefer smaller, more "driver's cars" than large sedans. Even though they are the same physical size, the RWD and reduced weight makes the Pure just seem like its a smaller, better handling car...IMHO. And, I get that this stuff is all highly subjective!!!

It seems that Pure does not have power frunk option, this is something that could push me to go for the next step up to Touring.
