Pure owner review

I think the frustration is from not knowing how tough it is to hit the rated range when there are vehicles that might be extremely difficult and some that are extremely easy (I'm thinking about Taycan here since it seems to always exceed range in reviews and is a major competitor here). It's the same shell game that everyone seems to be playing.

You basically have to rely on 3rd party reviews for get an apples to apples comparison and even those are a bit all over due to winds and temperature.
 
If you drive like 5 cycle EPA test, you will get those results. If you drive like 3 cycle EPA test and take the penalty then on paper that’s what the range will be on paper but driving will be better because the penalty is too harsh. There has to be some kind of standardized test, hence EPA, even though we can all agree it doesn’t reflect real world driving habits or speed limits. That’s why InsideEVs does their 70mph highway range tests, which while just another test, is generally reproducible under those conditions and shows a little worse than 5 cycle EPA but usually better than 3 cycle EPA, proving my point. Obviously real world driving where you’re stopping and starting a lot moving a 5200lb vehicle with a crapload of horsepower up to a target speed over and over and over again will give worse results. Why this is surprising to anyone is beyond my comprehension, and is not fraud, but physics.
 
Sound system and road noise:
My favorite part is not being able to identify where the sounds are coming from. I have a near $3k speaker system and a much more expensive headphones set-up at home. Being a basshead I currently have Bass at +4. I enjoy listening to music while charging or while just parked somewhere. Lucid sound system overall sounds clean and detailed, just missing a bit of that bass depth that a bigger subwoofer would provide. The quietness inside the car helps too since road noise can easily drown out the small details from music in poorly insulated cars. The Pure blocks out a lot of outside noise. When driving at high speeds though, I can hear some wind noise on the left side. Seems to be coming from the side mirror area.

The first Pures to roll off the assembly line (in 2022) were AWD with SSP and DDP (ie 'Loaded'). Less equipped Pures will start being produced throughout 2023 (and probably 2024).

I’d actually like more details regarding the rain visibility issue. Possibly even a video. I don’t believe this is something I have experienced in this car. Historically a good old spray bottle of something like Rain-X would go along way.

2-cycle, not 3-cycle, but otherwise spot on.

Yea I can confirm that after all these atmospheric rivers we’ve had in NorCal this past month or so, 0 visibility issues in the rain. I do have some rain-x type coating on the windshield, but my auto wipers have performed far better than others have reported on here.

Minor point....the pure is not 5200 lbs. I would sure like to know what it is. I think it should be on the sticker (Monroney label)

First time charging to almost 100%. Shows 434 miles!

Had a 155mi trip today mostly freeway averaging maybe 75mph. I used highway assist majority of the time, which is my first time using it. 20mi of steep hills total. 2.7mi/kwh first half and 3.5mi/kwh on the way back for an average of 3.1mi/kwh. Road was slightly wet on the first half and 450ft elevation gain.

Highway Assist:
The car centers itself on the center of two visible lanes though it's slightly closer to the right lane. Often times I got nervous passing by trucks so I would occasionally override and steer a bit closer to the left line. There was a truck whose cargo which looked like fine sawdust sprinkled a little bit on my windshield then moments later, to my surprise, my HA deactivated saying that the front cameras on the windshield are blocked. My visuals didn't really get affected. I turned on the wiper once but that didn't fix it. After I parked I checked the area but didn't notice any significant dirt or dust that would impair the camera, but it was fine since then.

Adaptive Cruise Control:
Worked great! I will be using this feature more frequently because one aspect of EV driving that I continue to struggle with is my +/- speed on the freeway where I tend to overspeed or slow too much from my intended speed. It's easy to turn it on or off with a push of a button or slight tap on the break pedal. I set the speed limit and the car will automatically adjust the speed depending on the car in front but will never go faster than the set speed. There was a sudden slowdown today from 80 to 10 mph but the car smoothly handled the deceleration and breaking then sped back up accordingly without me having to press anything. It was interesting to see the car at 10mph with a speed limit set at 82mph. It's a great feature because if we over or under brake then that could cause some potential collision. I feel very safe with the ACC.

With either HA or ACC I can also adjust the distance between me and the car in front (up to 4 different levels) using a button just beside to right of the HA button. I estimate the highest level to be maybe 7 cars length of distance then 4 cars length at the lowest level.

One issue though is the system doesn't immediately detect cars trying to switch to my lane even though the said car has already partially crossed the line. I think the Air starts to detect the merging car only about halfway through. I had a few cases today where ACC is speeding to catch up to the car in front but did not slow down on a switching car that's only partially across my lane (about 1/4th to 1/3rd). Still important to pay attention to the road for these cases.

Overall, I recommend using ACC on highways and freeways. My experience with HA is very limited and to be honest while it seems overall reliable it made driving boring and made me sleepy.

I disagree with you, and the only reason WHY is because @GEWC is hitting close to EPA.
I would agree if it was blanket across the board, but because even someone is hitting that high, it means it's possible and it's just our driving habits that need to be adjusted
My reason for reserving a Lucid was to not have to adjust my driving habits.

There are some on this forum who have both a Lucid and another BEV. I would be fascinated to see them caravan somewhere so the weather, driving speed, election, etc. was identical and then see how they compared on SOC.

I don't find this true for my car if I just drive the way that I want to. I get more range from my wife's AMG EQS. There is an almost 400 HP difference so maybe not a fair comparison.

I wouldn’t say this as it’s far overselling it. It’s on par with anything that has the same size battery and drag coefficient. The EQS is basically the same. There no real secret sauce to how the battery is setup as they were originally advertising. With that being said, there aren’t very many vehicles on the road with the same drag coefficient or less and battery size. Ultimately a realistic range of > 300 miles on a full charge isn’t that common in the EV world even when OEMs advertise it and > 300 is truly the sweet spot.

^ this, but we’re definitely talking about just range rather range trade offs with power. I do like the Lucid’s power and getting > 300 miles on a charge.
