Hello All,

Am new to EV's. I have a business acquaintance that is a big fan of Tesla's. He owns a Model Y and S. When I asked him about Lucid he did not have much to say other than they are new. Looking at the website it looks like you will drop about $100k to get into a Gravity. Has anyone in this forum driven a pre-production model? What would you say to a newbie to counter the fears that Lucid may not be around long? What does a service call look like to the newbie?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You

No one has been able to drive one yet, but @borski and @Babyrocko1908 can tell you what it's like to ride in one.

Lucid currently has cash runway through 2026, Gravity sales will help them last at least through 2027, so they'll be alive for 3 years.
If you plan to keep a car for over 3 years, EV is not the best choice imho (battery degradation, swift changes in technology and competition and corresponding depreciation).

Thank YouIf you go look at Lucid Air reviews, you will realize that Lucid doesn't just make an EV platform and put a body on it and say go. Their engineering is ahead of even Tesla. The ride and handling of the Air is sublime, and the same will hold for the Gravity SUV. I have no hesitation buying the car without a test drive, it is that good, I gaurantee you- having experienced the Air.

With regards to being around, Lucid is backed by the Saudi PIF - they have a trilllion dollars to play with. They made lucid build a factory in Saudi- the first full scale anto manufacturing plant in the Middle East. Why?- to diversify their economy and provide jobs for their citizens. Saudi reaized they can't rely on oil forever and need to invest in alternatives.

Lucid makes the best EV's, even better than Tesla. Do you really think Saudi's will give up after investing billions already- NOPE!

Most of that talk about bankruptcy is spread by Tesla fanboys and Musk is guilty as well.

Both Lucid and Rivian will be fine- their products are too good!

I think that depends on how you react to newer technology. I've had my Model X for over 7 years and I still love it. It's had about 9% degradation, but I still drive it on long trips without any noticeable "road trip quality of life" loss and that's with a car that had a lot less total range at the start than the Gravity will have.

My average car ownership has been 7 years for every car except for 1 Acura that I drove for 10 years (while waiting for the Model X to get released). Tesla has been in questionable financial grounds around when I got the X and at least once since then, but since the car has had almost no need for service it really wouldn't have been a problem even if Tesla had failed. America's Tire won't fail suddenly and they are the only ones who have mattered to keep the car going, especially now that there are many charging alternatives.

During that time there were at least 2 redesigns that made the newer versions more powerful and more efficient with the biggest being the Plaid redesign, but here I am happily driving it 7 years and 2 missed model upgrades later.

I've got my order in now to get the Gravity with very little fear that I will be stuck with something "less than", both from the perspective of not caring (actually hoping) that Lucid will come out with better versions while I drive exactly what I put my money on - and from the small chance that I'll own a product from a company that might have financial troubles.

About the only difference is that if you order a Gravity today then you will probably get a pretty "early off the assembly line" car that might (stressing "might") need a few visits back to the service center to correct, but I can't imagine those issues outliving the current forecast for the company's future.

I think ev’s are the better long term ownership solution, there is now enough information and history of long term reliability of ev battery packs going further and or at least equal to equivalent ice engines minus the extra maintenance. Yes ev’s still require brakes , bushings, suspension up keep but the technology is constantly being updated via ots updates. I owned an original model s p85+ and even when i sold it in 2020 the only items i felt outdated was the front end re-design and auto pilot.. just my $.02

I leased a 2024 Polestar 2 Performance because it was my first foray into the EV world, and I was concerned about the rapidly changing landscape. Now that I have had it over a year, I believe that when my lease is up, that I will look for a nice used Lucid Air GT, as I no longer fear the EV future. When the Touring version of the Gravity is released, I will be getting one for my wife.
