Lucid Air Touring v Porsche Taycan

the taycan may not be the best choice for a family hauler, everyone has their unique needs, for an old fogey like myself the rear seats aren't a large concern and for me the car was a great DD and road tripper.
I have not been able to get the driver's seat in my lucid into that perfect position, the taycan was much better in that regard.
I used to be a BMW owner and there were three different front seats and wildly differing viewpoints on comfort. What I cam away with is that seats are very particular to individuals and one needs to do as long a test drive as possible, to see if a particular car's particular seat works for you.

Steve, it reminds me of my wife & I going into a Volvo dealer a number of years ago. Volvo had a reputation of having some of the most comfortable seats in the industry. So off we went on a test drive with both of us returning and swearing the seats were among the most uncomfortable we had sat in. Go figure, bodies are different.

You are so right! I know you have been (and presumably still are) on the BMW forums and they are replate with folks praising or criticizing particular seats. There might be a seat for every butt but not necessarily from a given manufacturer.

As so often has been said: beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that in turn is driven by cultural norms. One of the matters that I really like about the EV landscape now is that there are so many choices, not just Tesla or Leaf. One can determine type of vehicle (sedan, crossover, truck), and features (range, appearance, power, handling, seating, availability, etc. etc.) and pick one that fits one's desires and needs. I was on the waiting list for years for the Lucid RWD Pure when the Genesis GV60 Performance popped up in my market (one of 8 original states). It checked as many of my boxes as the Lucid, just different ones, as the only EV that is perfect for me is inside my head.

Took delivery today. A lot of initial thoughts but I’ll give it a week before I open my mouth.

That's one good looking garage. Congrats.
Thank you! Definitely my dream garage! Im extremely humbled to be able to have these two beauties in the garage!

Congrats. Nice looking garage!
Thank you! My girlfriends Model 3 is in the third bay not pictured. Not as "high end" but still a fun little car to see in the garage!

Well I’ll have a taycan turbo here within the next couple weeks. Keeping my Dream edition. I won the recent one on cars and bids. Didn’t hit the reserve but offered $1500 more and the seller bit on it. I look forward to doing an in depth comparison on the two at some point.

Congrats, you are going to love it. What you see is what you get. No empty OTA promises and a stable platform. Just an awesome car that does what its intended to do, every time. As a bonus, you will get more than the EPA range estimates and wont have to subtract 20% just because you decided to use AC or drive 5 miles up hill over the speed limit. Share some picks!

@koflo , how are you liking the car?
I really need to do a better writeup or maybe a video to compare the two. Here are the cliff notes:
Good:
  • Range is understated and even in the harshest conditions in AZ (120 out) and my quick driving the car easily beats its estimates. Currently getting 220-240ish miles of range
  • Fit and finish is pretty much second to none
  • Car keys work flawlessly (Much better than Lucid)
  • A/C works flawlessly, maybe even too well. 76 makes me chilly in the car sometimes.(Much better than Lucid)
  • Its quick enough for me
  • The seats are so customizable and fit me like a glove. Many seats don't just because I am a thin guy.
  • (Subjective) The car is gorgeous. No other EV tops its looks IMO
  • The best part about it is it handles like no other car I have owned.
  • Driving profiles change the driving experience drastically
  • PDCC and rear axle steering are nice touches
  • Steering wheel feel/thickness is spot on
  • Seating position allows you to get real low to the ground
Bad:
  • Interior space is pretty bad in the car. I kind of wish they just removed the back two seats, made it a two door, and made the car shorter or gave me more trunk space.
  • Even though my Lucid is getting 2.0-2.5 mi/kwh in the summer, it still gives more range than the Taycan but its close
  • Straight line speed doesn't compete with the Lucid.
  • Pedal calibration is really...odd? The pedal lag makes you feel like you are driving an ICE car. The torque you expect to have is not there.
  • One pedal driving is completely absent
  • Hold at a stop sign or light is only engaged by stomping on the brake pedal which puts on a hold toggle. You can't change the car to hold by default
  • The car glides instead of regens which is hard to adjust to
  • Backup cameras are awful
  • Storage space for front passengers especially
Meh:
  • Suspension is good but the Lucid spoiled me here
  • Interior 'luxury' is just about as good as Lucids. Lucid's impresses me more but has more issues with the fit and finish so more of a tie in my mind
  • Software is finished and decent but the HW that runs the infotainment is laggy overall. Much worse than Lucid's which is much worse than Teslas
  • Frunk and Trunk opening is much easier with the sensors built in but having to unlatch the frunk makes it meh

I'm sure more things will come up that I forgot but those are kind of the truncated first impressions.

I grabbed a 2025 refreshed Taycan a few weeks back and parted ways with my good ol Lucid. Lucid was great. Some weird software quirks but it drives great and is a bit stealthy of a car that many don’t notice for what it is which I appreciated at times but also found a bit dull at times.

Overall though, it’s a fantastic car.

Ended up always wanting a Taycan and the refresh with the extra range, charging speeds, updated and speedier software helped seal the deal for me. And I love the way it looks. Got it wrapped as well!

Guess o Meter has been about 340-350 miles of range and I drive fairly aggressive. The charging is insane. I was holding 300kW and higher from like 15%-65% before tapering down. It peaked at 320kW.

Been really enjoying it.

Congrats it’s a beautiful vehicle. Taycan is favorite of all the EV cars on the road. The original 2013 Fisker karma was an amazing looking/hybrid as well.

I agree, but am I the only one who thought that specifically the front “boomerang” headlights of the pre-refresh model were gorgeous? I do LOVE the overall proportions of the car though… looks so low slung and sporty!

Congrats! I would be right there with you if I could afford a Taycan 😂 but we’ll see. I have 6 months left on my Lucid lease.

If you don’t mind my asking, how did you get out of your lease?

Congrats! I love the car, and I really like your color choice. It would be a boring world indeed if everybody had the exact same taste, but I have to say... those wheels aren't for me. Then again, I might like the look better when they are blurring past me at warp speed! Enjoy!

the taycan is very close to being a true sports car, the increased range is a plus but beware that some of the service centers are not the best

I mean yes…I agree…but it’s such a minor difference most people wouldn’t even notice. It hardly seems worth nitpicking compared to the beastly charge curve and range you get with the .2

Living on the Taycan Forums for a few weeks now and there is some fuss about electronic issues here and there as well as a common heater-failure issue that seems to have been sorted with a new supplier in the '25 models. Some issues with the high-voltage computers flaking-out is also pretty common. I think the Taycan is potentially a bit more "risky" on the reliability scale with some gremlins not quite sorted out. I'm really impressed with how Lucid presented a very good product from the get-go and a lot of user issues are sorted with OTA updates and added impressive features.
Taycan has more ground-clearance, surprisingly, and the car is about the same dimensions as the Air, but the all-wheel "rear-axle" steering is a real treat, making the car seem a lot crisper. I have that feature on my old-time-plush-design CT6 and the boat of a limo turns-in as if it feels like a 1990's Civic somehow, even better than my C6 Grand Sport for parking-lot maneuverability. I bet the Acura TSX-SH also feels nimble because of this added complexity despite the size.
Trying to decide between the two, a Lucid GT or Taycan GTS (used). I'm still a "working Joe" and can't afford to have a backup car and need something a little more reliable. I think the Air beats-out the Taycan by some notable margin. Looking, perhaps at an Air GT '24 with the heat-pump feature as I'm in a cold-ish climate. A little leary of a Dream-P because it came out so early and there's some build-quality early-model bugaboos sometimes, though maybe those got sorted-out by the original owner.. depends.. Glass-roof is almost a 100% no-go for me though. I know there's a mesh-solution that might help.

I sit on those forums. Haven’t had any issue.

I’ve had a few issues with my Air but I also know that happens. Same for any car. They always took care of me as well as Porsche when I had them service something real quick. Both were great.
