Gravity Orders Discussion

I was led to believe by a sales advisor That changes were possible up until the vehicle went into production. I don’t think my contract explicitly states anything to that effect. One thing I’m a little bit concerned about with changes whether or not that would impact your place in line. I’ve heard from others that changing to zenith ref color with the air meant getting bumped to the end of the line again. And if they’re fulfilling from highest price configuration to lowest, would removing options move you back in the line? And would adding options mean you had missed an opportunity to be closer to the front?? I think nobody outside of lucid definitively knows the answers to these questions just yet.

Lucid released a press release today about Gravity orders opening. It includes this line:

Lucid Gravity Grand Touring can be configured in six exterior colors, including the launch color Aurora Green Metallic

Does this mean that you have to order green to get the earliest delivery?

I know that the new paint shop is reported to be able to run all colors simultaneously, but I'm perplexed that the Titanium Metallic is shown as "later availability", as that color has already been on the show circuit.

I can't shake the suspicion that colors will be run in batches and may thus affect delivery sequencing. I've been wrong in a lot of my surmising lately, as I haven't completely shaken my recollections of the build up to the Air release which played out very differently of several fronts, but . . . .

I'm sure everyone noticed, but I thought I'd point out that the charge port is shown in the driver's rear on the configurator, which is a good sign that it's NACS.

You also got bumped back in delivery of your Dream Edition by ordering Zenith Red, I your situation, l would be suspicious also.

Yeah, we all remember the good old days of the "grey delay" and Cosmos Silver taking so long. I think painting a show car and getting paint ready for mass production could be two different things? Maybe they are finding that matching the silver over time is exceedingly difficult, which would make repairs a nightmare? I'm just speculating.

I was disappointed to see that color delayed, though. Because it is so pretty on Gravity. I'm not getting a Gravity myself, and I would go for green, regardless. But that silver with Tahoe interior would be my very close second pick, for sure.

Regarding preferential early deliveries for Lucid Air customers, I assume they will update their database later—perhaps when they reach out for confirmation. I’m particularly interested, as they initially planned to give priority to Dream Edition customers.

Yep. I've never been a fan of silver vehicles, but something about the Titanium Metallic Gravity we saw in West Palm Beach was so striking that I couldn't get it out of my mind. When we went onto the order configurator this morning, we actually had a discussion about whether we might want to try a silver car for the first time . . . but then I noticed the "later availability" tag and went back to debating Supernova Bronze vs. Aurora Green.

Really on the fence between Aurora Green and Supernova Bronze. But the last two Honda Odysseys we've had were almost the same color as the bronze, so maybe it's time for a change. The only issue is that I saw a Green Gravity in Miami and held the interior color boards up to it. My favorite interior color, Ojai, seemed to clash just a bit. However, since you usually don't see the two colors right on top of each other, that's the way we went.
Go for the black and wrap it. There are good color PPFs now.

Yes - paint takes time to come from manufacturers, and they may still be dialing in various aspects of it. There were one or two paint colors that were late with the Air too.

Well, whatever the reason, the fact that it's delayed is more evidence of the central point I was making, which is that it appears they're going to market before all the phases of design, V&V, and/or transfer to manufacturing are complete.

I am sure that automotive paint is very complicated, more complicated than I could ever comprehend, but I still maintain that paint seems like a silly thing to be behind on. It likely has fewer dependencies on other steps in the process. I'm guessing you can work on paint almost from day 1, heck, using Air bodies as dummies. Maybe there are unique characteristics of this one color that don't play well with the mfg line, or some elemental unobtanium in its formulation that has a supply chain issue right now. But I honestly don't know why they even needed a unique silver for Gravity when they have one (debatably two) for Air already. In general, I'm not sure why all Air colors and Gravity colors couldn't be/shouldn't be the same. The two cars share a very similar design language.

Oh well, what do I know?

Yeah, you're probably right. They probably know a lot less about it. 🤷‍♂️

Lucid confirmed it will come with NACS out the gate. Other markets will have the port location at the front (like the Air) but the charging port is being moved to the back for the US markets only.

The website was saying under 3.5 secs but looks like that stat has been removed in the last day or so

Configured one this morning. I’m a bit disappointed on the color palette. For me the choice is between the green and bronze like so many of you, with shades black white grey leaving me cold. I would go with the stealth package and the 21/22 wheels as a compromise. Probably the Tahoe interior this time. I’m waiting till my GT is out of warranty in about 6 months or mileage hits 50 k in about 5 months and then will place an order. Hopefully lucid will work out the kinks by then as my early Air had some teething problems ( trim issues, build issues one motor and two batteries)

Manufacturer's projected range for Grand Touring when equipped with 20"/21" wheels and configured as 2-row, 5-seat vehicle.
So the 440mi+ of projected range will be for the 5 seater?

The Quantum Grey Air color was delayed for months because of issues harmonizing the paint from all the suppliers. They had to make sure every part being shipped to them was the exact same color and this delayed QG deliveries by about 4 months past the start of GT deliveries, much to my chagrin. The silver was even more delayed for what I assume are similar reasons.
