Gravity Orders Discussion

You are not looking at the + review.

Right you are. I don't know how that happened. I was looking up the tire sizes which showed the Pro+ and just clicked on the blue "Tire Rack Tested" button. I didn't notice that the Pro review came up instead of the Pro+.

Weirdly, I just went to the Tire Rack site again, and this time the Pro+ review came up. Also, the Pro review had the spider charts, but the Pro+ review doesn't.

The Tire Rack narrative said that the only difference between the Pro and Pro+ was that the latter was aimed at reducing rolling resistance (by 5% per Vredestein's claim) and improving snow traction, so I'm assuming the other results pretty much hold.

I was interested in seeing whether the Vredesteins were available in sizes for any of the Gravity wheel options because I just put a set our our Odyssey and couple of weeks ago and had my first chance this weekend to drive them in heavy rain. They were excellent. Where I used to have to feather the throttle to avoid front wheel spin, the Vredesteins just hooked up and went. Braking and lateral maneuvers were better planted, too.

That means the Pro was available at the time Lucid would have been testing tires for the Gravity. Either they liked the Michelins better for some reason (range?) or they didn't check out the Vredesteins for some reason.

I'm wondering what the range hit would be, given that the Michelins already have a significant hit compared to the equal footprint of the smaller Hankook's.

I received an email from Lucid Friday thanking me again for placing an order and saying that a test drive would be scheduled "soon." Not really news, but at least they are communicating with me.

If Lucid doesn't plan to open test drives for the general public, I'm going to have to do the unthinkable. I'm going to forcibly place an order for the Gravity. That will teach them!

Well you better place one because it seems like the Air in the early days, test drives will be prioritized for order holders first.

The rep at my studio (Scottsdale, AZ) said last November that test drives would be scheduled for people who placed orders before anyone else.

Slow day in the studio. No Gravity or Air test drives scheduled. Customer w/o order shows up and requests a Gravity test drive.

Hmmm

Customer #1 with Gravity order, in studio: I'm here for my test drive.

Customer #2 without Gravity order, in studio, but overhears customer #1: Hey you mind if I sit in the back seat?

😀
I was having the exact same thought.
I'll order my Gravity for delivery in mid-2026.

No update from the Dallas area studio. They have no idea when to expect a display or test drive Gravity. BTW, Dallas area has the highest number of Lucids in Texas according to mobile tech but we don’t get much love here. Not sure when was the last Lucid owners event here - but sounds like it has been a while. Hope the DFW will area will soon receive some much needed love from Lucid!

I’m really struggling with the investment in dream drive pro. Have it on my Air GT and almost never use it beyond cruise control. It just isn’t there yet. I never keep a vehicle more than two years so I doubt it will advance that much in that timeframe. May order with all options except that one!
I discussed this with their sales representitive when they called about my order. I asked if there are currently actual features enabled that DDPro provides or is it solely for future features in development. He struggled with the answer but it basically was for future self driving capabilities.

Like you I don't keep my cars that long and I doubt that the DDPro hardware on my 3 year old Air GT will be compatible with the future self-driving features.

This is not true. The sales guy you talked to sucks.

At present, Highway Assist works for DD Pro and not for any other version of DD; it works great. I use it on the highway all the time.

Also untrue, fyi; every single Air produced to date has the hardware capability of running highway assist.

I second this. I travel to office on Tue/Wed with a 40 mile one way trip on NJ Turnpike. I used it on both ways speed set to 72 mph. All I do is eye on the road and rest my hand on the steering wheel. Rest is done by the car , even the Lane changes. It’s has been rock solid for me

Can you please elaborate on this?
I know my Air Pure with DreamDrive (neither Premium nor Pro) doesn’t have the hardware needed to run Highway Assist (cameras and sensors). Did you mean the processing power of the vehicle is capable of handling it if the additional cameras and sensors were there?

He meant that DreamDrive Pro has all the hardware necessary for future updates. For example, hands free HA is coming soon to existing vehicles with DDPro.

I’d say that’s a reasonable conclusion.

I'd say that's not a reasonable conclusion. Retrofitting all the cameras and sensors in a car that doesn't have them would be a cost-prohibitive task. Why would you lead someone down a rabbit hole that they have the processing power for HA, they just need to go install some cameras? Obviously that's never going to be possible.

The right answer is that if you have DD PRO you have the hardware required for future HA improvements. If you have DD Basic or Premium, then you do not have the hardware required for HA or for future HA improvements.

Correct. Sorry for being unclear.

Highlights from the discussion with Emad:
  • Charging peak slightly greater than 400kw, but the focus was on the "integral of the charging curve" rather than just the peak
    • it was suggested that the charge rate at 50% would be "over 200kw"
    • Emad said Gravity charging curve would "be the best", suggesting it will beat the Taycan
  • Same module architecture, but significantly improved thermals, thermal management, cooling architecture, and BMS software
    • new radiator layout
    • larger chiller and compressor (20-30%)
    • new cooling plate
    • lighter materials
    • improved safety (thermal runaway, etc.)
    • reduced temperature sensitivity relative to the charge rate (better charging performance at sub-optimal temperatures)
    • improved preconditioning algorithms
  • using a voltage boost strategy vs splitting the pack
    • utilizing the rear drive unit
    • moving the charge port to the back was integral to the design
    • enhanced by new Panasonic NMC battery chemistry recently announced
  • Supercharger access to open 1/31 for Gravity
    • DC adapter will be included with Gravity: 1000V 500A
    • adapters for Air will be "offered"
    • Air supercharger access in Q2
All very positive news.
