Gravity Orders Discussion

I decided to spare myself the preorder drama this time, and place an order when things have settled out, if the Gravity seems like the best choice for me, and production (and available information) catches up with demand. I've never found any kind of benefit by preordering an early production car - Model 3 or Air.
I'll second you on this. I am pretty sure the Gravity will be my next vehicle, though I have been reluctant to pull the preorder trigger as of now due to software related concerns. I have no doubts the hardware is great and the car will drive really well. I really want to see some reviews of delivered vehicles to confirm a few things:

1) The new key implementation actually works flawlessly 100% of the time as any car key should.
2) Android Auto actually is implemented.

My expectations are realistic in that I don't expect the software to be 100% perfect (or have every feature) out of the gate--and I'm ok with that. That being said....basic functionality quirks should be ironed out in $100k vehicle planned for mass production.

Just a thought: there is a possibility that if they have scheduled an event (I have no idea) they may be keeping mum so as to make a big splash.

Or not. Dno. But it’s a possibility.

I could be wrong (in fact, probably am), but I have a suspicion that the delays with Android Auto lie outside Lucid's control for some reason. Based on a passing comment in the "Out of Spec" test drive, I don't think it's coming any time soon to the Gravity . . . or the Air.

So you & @hydbob and received a golden ticket to the Gravity news years eve event! Fess up!! Haha :p ;)

Only four days left if you mean a delivery before year end.

I have no such ticket, golden or otherwise. Nor do I know there’s an event. I’m just speculating.

Ball is in Googles court it seems.

It was a joke!

I agree. For some reason, it’s been “coming” for at least 3 years. Not sure why it’s been an issue for so long.

A friend of mine just bought an ICE car (2025 Lexus) with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

I hope you're correct!

Same here. I won't order a Gravity unless/until I see Android Auto running as a production release in a production car. Lucid's native nav has been too painful for too long to want to repeat that experience.
I never thought there'd be a chance I'd sell my Air before Android Auto materialized, but it's looking like a possibility.

I love my AGT, although I went through several “early“ issues in late 2022 and early 2023. All have been totally resolved.

I know Lucid said they would give preference to Air owners. Although this time I would not want the preference only to be a Guinea pig again. I can wait. My AGT only has 12,000 miles on it.

Damn! You hate the native navigation that much? I’ve really had no major issues with it.

Here is probably not the thread to go down another software rabbit hole with Lucids, but I will say that recente updates seem to have made the Air's nav system somewhat better.

I had never been to the Orlando Airport until my recent 4-hour drive there up through the mostly-rural central hinterlands of Florida. I programmed the address both into the Lucid nav system and into my iPhone. Several times the phone tried to divert me into detours for, I assume, predicted traffic slowdowns. I stayed with the more direct route the Lucid system was showing and never encountered any slowdowns until I reached the greater Orlando area, which Disney World has turned into a perpetual traffic jam.

Both systems failed to get me to the cell phone lot, though, which I finally stumbled onto after some fairly byzantine twists and turns.

Yes, it has taken us to incorrect locations many times, usually several time miles from the correct place. And cost us hours and missed opportunities on road trips. The underlying reason is systematic translation errors between Google maps, where we do all our trip planning, and HERE maps' much more limited database in the Lucid. I've learned to never send a destination from Google Maps to the car. Half the time (with an android phone), it has taken me to the city center instead of the business I intended.

So now I directly enter the destination into the car's screen, and scroll and zoom the map after to see if it is routing me to the right place. Our other EV uses native Google maps, and it "just works" seamlessly with Google maps on phone and desktop. It's reliable and easy, and I trust it.

I've heard that Lucid's ADAS software depends on HERE maps. Because of this, I don't expect Lucid's navigation to fundamentally improve. Minor fixes have come occasionally over the years. So with a Lucid vehicle I'll always have to use a connected kludge like Android Auto, or Carplay.

If they had instead chosen to use AAOS's available native Google maps and voice assistant, I'd be Lucid's biggest fan by far. As it is, I'm not sure what to tell people when they ask about my car. I figure if they're using an iPhone, they'll just use CarPlay to bypass Lucid's nav and voice assistant and be happy. Can't do that yet with one of the 3 billion android phones in the world. This (and feeling like a second-class citizen due to my choice of phone) is the main factor holding me back from ordering a Gravity.

Except it has fundamentally improved, and in significant ways. Locations that used to be wrong for me no longer are, in addition to other features that have been added.

The translation issue between Google Maps and Lucid is a real issue, which boils down to the fact that Google has two methods of sending location info. One works, the other doesn’t. That’s why it’s inconsistent. Apple Maps and Waze send it the same way every time, which is why this doesn’t appear as an issue for people using those apps.

Mind you, I think Lucid should fix it of course - but it is an issue limited to Google Maps specifically. And I’m not even saying it’s Google’s fault - it may be; I have no idea. But even if it is, Lucid should add the handling for it.

I do hope Android Auto resolves most of your issues.
