Gravity Delivery Discussion

Agreed... Six figs is already more than I feel comfortable spending on a car but I feel that's greatly offset by lower maintenance and fuel costs over time. Plus we have solar.
I was, like you, very concerned and contemplating canceling my order (not a good feeling when SW engineers on here are not wanting to take delivery!) but this new major update seems promising judging by the overwhelmingly positive comments by most of the freq posters on this forum.j
I really liked driving the Gravity on both test drives; just don't want to hear it from my wife and auto enthusiast friends if Lucid chokes or just can't make the SW functional.

I trust you have read the thread about owners that are NOT experiencing SW issues?
Yes, I have seen the thread about happy owners. Honestly, I do discount that thread a little bit. Not because people are lying, but rather because it's a well known quirk of human psychology that once you've bought something expensive, you're subconsciously highly motivated to be happy about the purchase. As reviewers are uniformly encountering severe software problems, I can't help but wonder if a some owners are minimizing the issues they face, or just accepting that there are features that they won't be using. On the upside, that means that if I do purchase, I'm likely to do the same. But my wife will still be unrelentingly critical if basic functions aren't reliable. It's good to hear some initially positive reactions to 3.3.20 coming out, although it (unsurprisingly) doesn't seem to resolve all issues. I'll wait a few days and see how the mood on the forum seems to evolve.

I took delivery of my Gravity Grand Touring (GGT) a few days ago on Dec 9. I was supposed to pick it up on Dec 4th but because of too much reading of this forum, prior 1st year car buying knowledge, discouraging wife and my reluctance to spend $$ my body decided to have a panic attack instead. I talked with my SA and arranged to have another more realistic test drive to check off some of my worry boxes and relieve some of my stress. This was ultimately successful (for Lucid initially and hopefully for me)

Using tips from this forum I diligently inspected the car for software and mechanical issues. The car was at 3.3.19 with the fob reporting it at 3.3.5 as expected. The 3V fob battery was at 2.9V but 2 extra batteries were supplied. The fob and keycards all worked. The windows and doors worked, the HUD looked better than I expected, the panel fits were good, the interior excellent, the second row seat movement much better than the previous test cars I drove.

The car, as is well known, drives fabulously. Unfortunately little details like my wife's inability to open the front passenger door as soon as I got the car home can ruin a good day. Somehow I missed the door handle issue. It seems to work better after a few cycles but definitely will need to be replaced. So my wife was not happy.

My 1st chance to drive on the highway ended up after dark. My wife wouldn't go. Within a few miles on the freeway I heard the loud whack, whack, whack of something stuck on the tire, then a big hissss followed by thrump, thrump, trump. Luckily an immediate offramp was available and there I sat with no spare, one of my stress points. On the bright side the car handled the situation admirably, I wasn't sure if the flat was in back or front, no side pull, nothing except depressing flat tire sound along with some weird rattling. Setup to get towed to the Lucid Service center via the Lucid app.

The stainless steel object below was somehow forced through the tread of the tire and was inside rattling.

The tire and TPM needed to be replaced for ~$500. The wheel and wheel well seem unscathed. So my wife decided to name the car the Money Pit.

We finally drove around and enjoyed the car a bit. It's so big and roomy the wife changed the name to the Whale.

Today some chump cut us off expecting to be first in a left turn lane. I pressed the go pedal about 1/2 way down for the first time and holy crap, the wife was silent, but smiling.

After that we decided the car will be named the 'Killer Whale' !

Now we'll probably see you driving along with a huge large satellite antenna on the roof and extra large passenger and driver flappy door handles
and a big fluted tail insert in the tow port with an Orca PPF wrap

While I agree with the quirk of human psychology you mention, after being on this forum for about a year and a half, I don't think many if any of those humans are on this forum.
If anything, the exact opposite has occurred. There are several posts from owners highly pissed off because they "bought something expensive" and are experiencing bugs/issues.
I see no motivation from them to be happy about their purchase.

The "happy owners" thread you referenced is 4 pages long.
The Gravity Bugs/Issues thread is 205 pages long.

Another quirk of human nature that the happy thread was "consciously" started to counter, is the tendency to only post online about problems or threats while "discounting" posts about good ownership experiences.

Unfortunately, it seems that conscious effort in start the happy thread was unsuccessful with you because you belief we are subconsciously pacifying ourselves based on the purchase price. I can't speak for the other happies, but whether something costs $30k or $130k, money is money.
A $30k car not performing to my expectations is going to bother me just as much as a $130k car not performing.

I suppose the other unfortunate here is that if and when you purchase a Gravity, your post about your ownership experience is likely to be subconsciously skewed.
Your username is in my subconscious for consideration of your future ownership posts. :)
I'm hoping you'll really love the car, but we'll never really know.

So my GGT went into production on Wednesday Dec 10th and my SA called today (Dec 13th) to let me know it was finished and awaiting transport to Tyson's Corner. There's a chance that I will take delivery before the new year. Fingers crossed all goes well.
Hey @RumRunner - our vehicles might be on the same transport. Mine came in to King of Prussia on 12/11 and it's being transported to Tyson's Corner with expected delivery of 12/19 or 12/20.

We ordered an Aurora Green GGT, 5 seater in mid-September, changed to a Bronze 7 seater coming off the line in Early October only to find out last week that it has been sitting in the factory waiting for a part. Supposedly a “high priority” on their list. So………….last week changed back to a Green 5 seater already at the San Diego service center. We are currently scheduled to pick it up this coming Sunday, the 21st, unless it’s ready earlier. Fingers crossed it all works out. Sold my AGT two weeks ago, so it’s been different driving our other car, a Subaru Outback. Nice car, but definitely not a Lucid. I’m finally getting excited about a new toy.

I second this take; but obviously it's up to each of us to make our own decision since the money is coming out of our pocket. I can see why @TahoeMichael might be feeling that way, but there are plenty of people on this forum that give great unbiased feedback if you have been paying attention. If feedback is skewed in any direction on this forum; I will say it is in the negative direction. I do think it is better to just wait if you are apprehensive about issues at this point because you might actually buy a good car but not know it because of the biased opinion you already have.

Just received update on delivery.
My Gravity was held back at Goose Island SC, Chicago because of mandatory work order to install v3.3.20 update.
As of today morning, update was completed successfully.
In fact, SC said all Gravity deliveries were stopped to install this update.

Vehicle transport to Tysons, VA is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday (latest Wednesday).

SA called this morning to say mine arrived (Denver). Set an appointment to pick it up Friday. Hoped to use our 2021 Mach-E First Edition as trade, but did the KBB offer and it was pathetic ($12k). KBB value says $19k-$22k. Used EVs have such a terrible resale market.

Did a handful of online offers and found a $17k, so I'll probably settle for that and forgo the sales tax savings for trade-in.

And experiences can change. My Air Touring was terrible for a month, a joke really. But now it’s fine. The power is insane, it looks like a million bucks. There a features that just flat out don’t work, but that’s better than something that worked which then stops working.

However, the fact that Lucid will absolutely sell and ship broken buggy cars does enormous damage to any goodwill will they generate with their customers. It magnifies problems too. I’d like to think some of their recent firings are related to whoever green lighted the Gravity to launch in such poor condition.

I do expect to own a Gravity at some point. There's just so much to love about the car. Unlike a couple posts I've seen here, my apprehension about the Gravity isn't resulting in my seriously shopping for something else. So my main decision is more about timing, and less about whether the Gravity is great or not.

It took 34 days from order to pick up, this past Saturday, and I couldn't be happier with the build or performance. Pulled into a almost fully packed large super charger station yesterday and the eyes on my ride was hilarious. Auto envy indeed! All their Model 3s & Ys look so cookie cutter to me now.

I’ve also heard that they’ll never acknowledge your presence.

Anybody know how long it takes to transport a vehicle from Goose Island, Chicago to Tysons, Virginia?

My Gravity left Chicago today, Tuesday morning (12/16/2025).
In anticipation of delivery day, I took Friday off from work.
I've informed my SS, but he cannot guarantee anything.

I'll be away with the family in NY for the weekend and then back to DC to leave the country for vacation on Tuesday. I was looking forward to showing off the Gravity to the cousins and in-laws. Hope that it's still possible.

Finally have my confirmed delivery appointment for Friday morning!
Congrats.
2 weeks for PDI?
Mine is beginning to look like 2 weeks, or longer.

OK, so wait...wait...wait and then hurry up!

Ordered in mid Sept and basically no word on progress. Two weeks ago SA said our car should enter production last week, but checked in a couple times last week and hear nothing.

Then yesterday I get a text from our SA that our car is production complete! Should expect transportation from AZ to NorCal by end of this week, delivery by Dec 31.

Then today I get another text - car is at our (San Jose) delivery center! Should expect to be able to get it before Xmas.

Then another text - can get the car this week! So, we're picking it up Friday morning.

Now the conundrum - we're taking a road trip down to Dana Point for Xmas: do we take our Model X or the new Gravity? I'm thinking, unfortunately, that we should take the X. It has the latest FSD and no showstopping issues. Not sure I want to take a new Gravity on a long road trip given the possibility of issues....

Congrats.

Yes, a bit more than two weeks for some reason. It arrived at the service center on 12/3 and I was told that PDI should take 3-5 days but it that didn’t happen and then there was the delivery pause because of the update. Not sure why the extra delay, I was offered times on Friday and took the earliest one.

do we take our Model X or the new Gravity?
More complications: Our next Model X lease payment is due Dec 26th, so returning the car before then is different than returning after. I'm assuming each month that goes by reduces the early termination costs, so it might pay to wait until Jan to return the X. We're under our mileage allotment for the X, so adding a 1,000 mile road trip won't hurt, whereas starting with a 1,000 miles on the Gravity may affect us later.
And then my wife just scraped the bottom right corner, damaging some the of the plastic trim, so that will either have to get fixed or deducted when we return the X.
Sigh, nothing's ever easy, eh?
