Gravity Delivery Discussion

Picked up my car yesterday in Millbrae, CA. The inspection took one week after the car was ready.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I was even able to apply the referral during car preparation. After inspecting the car, I found that the frunk is misaligned and only opens on the third attempt every time. I’m not sure how the inspection missed this, given that they had a full week. Was told that SC will call an schedule something in 2-3 weeks.

No other major issues so far. The fob and cards work, and there have been no resets or restarts. I did have to change settings on my home Tesla Gen 3 charger. Tesla Superchargers work out of the box, even before I added my card to the wallet.

Insurance is around ~$200+ with Tesla Insurance 🙂. Nice timing on getting the car as well - I received a $7.5k lease discount, $3k for on-site, and $1k for the referral.

Glad to hear. I pick up my GGT, Quantum Gray stealth 22/23, Ojai, 5 seater fully loaded w/o tow package on Monday!!!

And delivered. Our appointment was pushed back from 11 to 12 and they still hadn't done all of the updates so we went and got lunch and went back an hour later. Everything seems great, took drive after we were done and so far no problems with entry/exit or the key fob not working.

Picked up my Aurora Green 20/21 Ojai 5-seat (450 mile) in Denver about 3 hours ago. Been playing with it a little but lots more to check out. A few very early impressions:

1. Love the squircle already! I like the seat high and wheel low in my lap so I can hold it at the bottom with my right arm resting in my lap. I can tell this is gonna be great! No spoke in the way. Took a minute to not grab the underside of the top of the wheel to turn like I'm used to though. Went to grab it on my first turn without thinking, and nothing but air! 😄
2. I bit disappointed there's no kick-open for the tailgate. My last 4 cars have all had that and surprised this doesn't. Gonna miss that.
3. Had the driver window go up and back down halfway already. Tried 4 times. Finally just opened the door and closed the window fine.
4. The heads-up display is on a bit of a tilt. Doesn't appear to be a tilt adjustment? It's also a little higher than I'd prefer, but it's already on the lowest setting.
5. The charge port door is a bit misaligned (a bit inside on the lower edge and a bit raised on the upper edge).
6. My EVSE is a J-1772 (and our 2nd EV is a Porsche Macan with J-1772), so I'm gonna leave that adapter sitting on top of my Grizzl-E. But I bet I'm gonna forget it for roads trips, so I'll probably have to buy another.
7. Regen "Standard" setting is a lot stronger than I expected (way more than the Macan). I'm OK with that but wow, unexpected. I turn Hold off (hate that - I always prefer Creep).
8. Turn signal takes a lot more pressure to activate. I'll get used to it but it's pretty stiff.
9. Space is huge everywhere in this thing. That big gap behind the 2nd row seats (5-seat version) is odd. Stuff is gonna fall in there. But it is more space, so OK.
10. 2nd row floor has the tracks and the power seats like others have mentioned. And that floormat doesn't stay in place very well as a result.
11. Couldn't figure out a way to get the steering wheel pad to jump between XSM channels. It only goes to the next track within the same channel.
12. Definitely looks nicer in person. And in my garage next to the Macan.

yeah, right? Weird for something that is cargo oriented. Often one has their hands full of something and reaching for the phone and app to open isn't first-world problem convenient.

I think Tesla does some UWB/phone proximity trick to get theirs to auto-open on Model Ys. I give Lucid permission to copy that.

Our delivery appointment today in Tysons Corner VA was a disaster, unacceptable and did not occur.
We arrived at the Tysons location 30 minutes early for our 3pm appointment, only to find three other parties waiting for delivery—one of whom had an 11:00 a.m. appointment. After waiting more than an hour, Nick Wright kindly informed us that the location was significantly overbooked and overwhelmed, and that it would be several additional hours before our vehicle might be ready. Given the uncertainty, the late hour on a Friday evening, and the fact that this was a holiday week in the Washington DC area, we were not willing to wait indefinitely.
What is most frustrating is that this situation could—and should—have been communicated in advance. We drove over 100 miles to get there and lost more than six hours of our day for a delivery that Lucid was clearly not prepared to fulfill. A simple phone call notifying us of the issue would have been sufficient and appropriate.

They've suggested a rescheduled pickup after Christmas. I'm suggesting they deliver the vehicle to us.

That is ridiculous.

You most definitely should insist on having the car delivered to you; not suggest.
After what you went through today, home delivery is a no-brainer unless you just happen to like drving in the DC area; I suppose those people do exist.
That DMV area, specifically Interstate 95, is a zoo.
As Scot with Out of Spec asked during the drive up to start the Eastern Edge challenge, "why would anyone want to live up here".

I had my GGT delivered to my home in Central Va., in early August.
Based on your username, if you live in Charlottesville, your travel distance was about the same as mine would have been.
I was told by Lucid Customer Care that home delivery to locations more than 50 miles from a studio is free of cost to the buyer.

The one challenge you will have to possibly deal with is nailing down a delivery day and time.
If you've been following this thread for awhile, you've read about that challenge.
Plenty of info on this forum on how to handle home delivery/inspection.

I say thats a nice problem to have for Lucid. Lots of deliveries!

A "nice" problem would be having lots of deliveries and being challenged, but still able to fulfill all of them.

Convincing a lot of people you're going to do something and then not doing it is shameful.
Just a bad look, no matter how much the car costs.

Picking up my car tomorrow in San Jose at 10am.
Car with VIN is already in the App, but I can't do anything to/with it.

So, delivery was pretty smooth for us. Car appears in good shape, only two really really minor things off that we probably won't bother with getting fixed ever. Met another couple there, however, who is having bad luck - apparently their first car got damaged during shipment and they showed up today to get another one, but that one wasn't ready either. And they Uber'ed like 60 miles to get to the delivery center in San Jose from Carmel, so that's a huge bummer, too.

But, for us, lady luck is so far shining. Here's my thoughts on a few hours of ownership/driving:

• Car drives like a dream. Tight and quiet, well planted, handles our twisty mountain roads way better than our 4WD Model X.
• I won't go on and on about all the good stuff one buys a Gravity for, but it's there.

Here are the not so greats:
• Wished we hadn't gotten the Technology Package. The glare from the dash cut-out for the HUD isn't worth the HUD, and while the ambient lighting is way cool, not sure that's worth the money. Power package is available separately, and if we got the opportunity for a do-over, I would choose that instead.
• Folding up the larger side of the rear seats is really hard. My wife literally can't lift the seat back up due to the strength required. Luckily, the only reason to lift the seat up is for additional passengers, so she'll have help.
• Navigation system is slow, missing basic features like being able to name your Favorites (they are stored with however you found them, so mostly just addresses, not people's names). And once you remove automatic charge stops you can't add them back in as auto, you have to manually choose them - or just start over. Also, it doesn't know how many stations are in use at most Tesla SuperChargers. If you're driving in an area with spotty cell coverage, you get annoying messages every time connectivity re-establishes itself - no reason why it shouldn't just do that silently.
• Profiles mostly work with the latest software, but we did find that after moving the seat, the "SAVE"/"RESTORE" buttons were not enabled. Clicking around to different screens, moving a mirror, etc. finally "fixed" it.
• Honking the horn isn't easy. You really need to push hard and push up. Not good when you need to honk in an emergency.

We've decided we're going to do our annual 800-mile round trip for XMas in the new car, so we'll see how that goes. But, overall, I have to say the bugs/annoyances aren't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Still early hours though....

So okay, I guess I'll tell my story, now that things seem to be resolved (I hope?).

Before I start, I will spoil the ending: I am loving this car so far, and experiencing fewer software glitches than I expected based on comments here (but not zero). The Gravity drives just incredibly well, and the cockpit and user interface are designed fantastically (with the notable exception of the HUD, more on that later). Overall I give the vehicle an "A" grade. Not perfect in every category, but there are several things it does so well, that they make up for its faults, and the fiasco that was the saga of actually obtaining the damn thing.

So back to the beginning: I ordered my Gravity in February. Switched to Dream Edition in April, partly for the tech package and extra horsepower, and partly because I (very wrongly, it turns out) thought that doing so would get me my car sooner. In August, it finally went into production with a VIN I could see on the website. It sat in that same "in production" state for two full months. In late October, I sent a disgruntled email to my advisor griping about the fact that it should not take 2 months to build a car, and threatening to cancel. He immediate responded that he was able to switch me to an already-completed Gravity with identical specs, which would ship within a week. This raised questions in my mind, as it probably does in yours, but at that point I just wanted the car, so I was like "ok, great". The car did not ship out within a week. It was later revealed it was "waiting on a part" and did not get to the dealership until the end of November, more than a month later.

On my delivery day, I was very excited. They did the reveal and everyone was very nice. Car looked perfect. I received a full orientation of all the exterior and interior features. Finally, I put the car in drive to pull out of the delivery bay. I moved forward about 3 feet, and the car flashed an error - "Pull Over Now - Contact Service". Apparently, the car needed a new part (I believe a new front drive unit). I remain extremely confused how this condition went undiscovered until the instant I put it into drive. I certainly wasn't the first to do so - it had 35 miles on the odometer at the time. Anyway, they took my car away, and gave me a nice Lucid Air loaner until it was repaired.

Two weeks after that, we did Delivery Take 2, and that went fine.

Through this whole process, I felt like the individual Lucid employees were all doing their best, but were in various states of helplessness themselves. It seems like there are production and yield issues on multiple critical components of the Gravity, and vehicle allocation seems chaotic and arbitrary from the outside looking in. But I do have to say ... the vehicle itself (aside from the HUD) is marvelously designed.

So now that I have my vehicle, below are my thoughts on it:

Issues:
  • HUD: This component seems to be underwhelming almost everyone. The numbers and letters on the display are slightly blurry, especially towards the left side, where the windshield curve is more pronounced, and the image seems slightly tilted. I've also noticed that if I tilt my head slightly to the left, it's a bit less blurry. I don't fully understand collimation or the infinite focus issues at play, but unfortunately, it seems neither did the designers of this HUD.
  • For a full day, I was having the Door Handle Flappy Bird Issue, but that seems to have resolved itself for now.
  • At certain climate settings, there's a loud and annoying whistle that comes from the front vents. So far it's only been momentary - maybe it's only when the car is first warming up?
Annoyances:
  • Many settings don't get automatically saved between drives. My "Lucid Vibes" lighting, for example, resets to default white on every drive. To get the purple lighting I selected, I have to go into the "vibes" menu and re-select it every time. I'm not sure if this is intended or a bug, but either way, I hope that changes. There's no defensible reason to override my preference.
  • It also refuses to stay at the selected ride height for any meaningful length of time, and won't remember the height the driver picked on subsequent drives. It will simply always put itself into its own preferred ride height for the given performance mode. This makes the feature into a point of frustration, as I'm always trying to override it, and it's always trying to override me.
  • As far as I can tell, the car always starts up in "Smooth" driving mode. In my Model S Plaid, I kept it in "Plaid Mode" 100% of the time, and it never tried to change back to granny mode on me behind my back. I'd greatly prefer it if the Lucid Gravity remembered my preferred mode, and did not default to Grandma Mode on every drive. In fact, that's quite annoying.
Praise:
  • This car drives like a dream. All the power in the world, and it feels stable and planted and eminently comfortable, predictable, and responsive.
  • I LOVE that all of the most commonly-used functions are physical buttons. And they're sturdy, intuitive, satisfying buttons, as well. A nice roller for volume, perfect up/down levers for temperature and fan control, traditional stalk for turn signal, and so on.
  • I also love that there are three configurable physical buttons. One on the steering wheel, and two on the center console. I have the steering wheel one set to change drive mode between smooth/swift/sprint, and the console ones configured to control heated seats and open the glove box.
  • The user interface in general is quite wonderful. It blows away the garbage that VW, Mercedes, and Cadillac are putting out right now, and rivals Tesla in terms of simply making intuitive sense and being quick and responsive to taps, scrolls, and gestures. This is something SO MANY auto manufacturers are failing miserably at right now.
  • The use of space is incredible. I'm hardly the first to express that.
  • The Gravity feels MILES more luxurious and well-built than my previous car, the Model S Plaid.
  • The sound system is fantastic.
  • The squircle is awesome. I did not hate my Plaid's yoke as many did, but I do concede it was kind of awkward in hand-over-hand turning situations. The squircle is not awkward at all in those situations, and its shape puts it neatly out of the way of the dashboard display.

Delivery was yesterday in San Diego. After being forgotten about for 30 mins, we asked one of the folks manning the desk and in a few words, she stepped up to the plate and took over herself.
The good:
- Love the way it drives! Came back over the mountains in Sprint mode, and it was FUN!!! For me, even better than the Air
- Super quiet cabin and extremely comfortable
- Beautiful car and we are going to enjoy it

The not so good:
- The HUD is worthless to me. I have it down as far as it will go and it’s still directly in my line of sight. I finally turned it off.
- The left turn camera looks like it has Vaseline smeared all over it. The picture is awful. Yes, I did check the camera and cleaned it, but no change
- Maybe I’m missing something, but the odometer doesn’t show anywhere. The entire left side of the screen is blank. Four little dots at the bottom of the screen, to the left of speedometer, but they don’t seem to do anything. Checked the manual and that was basically useless.

Conclusion:
- I love the car, but am regretting the HUD unless there is something they can do about it. Can’t find any definitive info on the forum to see if anyone has had the issue fixed.

I’m off to enjoy driving it more today and figuring out all the intricacies of the two screens and how to configure them

If you swipe left/right on the blank area of left side screen it will swipe through different screens including odometer/trip data/dynamic energy use. You can also swipe left/right on the left steering wheel pad to do this.

My cameras are pretty clear .. are you on the latest update — 3.3.20?

The left side of the dash has four different things it can display (represented by those four dots you mentioned). It includes tire pressure, overall efficiency, and I don’t remember what else. I always have the efficiency meter up. You can scroll through them by swiping left or right on the pad on the left side of the steering wheel.

I agree the HUD is not usable for me - too high, too blurry. It would literally give me a headache if I left it on.

I'm starting to wonder whether HUD was worth it or not too. It's barely low enough to be out of the way on a flat road. I can live with that but it's not idea (and it's angled some). But it's a little sunnier today than when I picked it up yesterday, and it reflects off the trim around the dash indentation, creating a distracting reflection in the windshield. That's gonna be hard to unsee. With the driver display so high on this car, I almost passed on getting HUD since it's not really needed. Wish I had now.

I haven't figured out how to display any other cameras while parking. I hit the (P) screen and it shows the "straighten out" lines, but no camera view for the parking spot striping. Doesn't the car do that?

My right-side mirror angles down when backing up, but the left-side doesn't. I assume that's a bug.

When I drove it today, the CREEP setting reverted back to HOLD (which I hate). Hoping I don't have to change that every time I get back in the car.

They could use another regen level. NORMAL is really strong.

The view out the rearview mirror is worse than I expected too. But I have the seat set high, which makes that box on top get more in the way.

Thanks for the info, it worked! I do have a further question: I can now see TripA/TripB but where is just the plain old odometer?

Like you, I'm really disappointed in the HUD. I'm going to try and adjust my seat to see if I can find a better view, but right now I can't see using it.

Thanks for the info. I at least now know how to choose what I see there.

When I want my odometer reading I just look at the app. What are you needing it for?

I've never had a car where the actual odometer reading wasn't always visible. Seems strange to me it's not on the Gravity.

Im sure it’s somewhere. I’ve just literally never in my life needed it on the dashboard. Only ever used it when filling out paperwork away from the car. You trying to plan ahead for an oil change? If so I have some good news….
