Gravity Bugs / Issues

I call them back today. I opened a ticket last week about the failed update. Customer Care confirmed my ticket is still active, and that they're having a lot of known issues with the OTA update failed, and they're working on it. I just mentioned update fail, and the person on the other end immediately knows what I'm talking about and explain the situation. Just be patient. I will now stop bothering them and wait for the fresh push.

The distortion area in our HUD screen seems to be expanding. The ghostly reflections used to be more on the left side of the screen, but they now encompass the whole screen and are so strong that they reflect back onto the frame of the HUD unit. I'm still wondering whether the material of the screen can't handle the heat either in that area of the cabin and/or from the HUD electronics.

I can see it also reflects back to the dashboard, it's that strong :(

Yeah that’s one hell of a defect. Hopefully Lucid has some recourse with the supplier because clearly the unit is defective and unusable. The fact that it’s expanding makes me think that these things initially look ok on the production line but by the time they make it to customers hands it’s having some sort of dehiscence within the polymer or glass or whatever it’s using for the display.

I had been wondering how it was possible that the test driver at the Lucid factory failed to notice this as we were seeing it in all light conditions as soon as we got it, although to a less extreme extent. It's part of the reason I'm now thinking this might be the evolving result of continued exposure to heat and sunlight over time. (The car was transported from Arizona to south Florida in summer and, although it's kept in a garage, it gets a lot of heat exposure when the car's in use.)

If this is a one-off problem with our car, the replacement of our unit will be the end of it. If this screen material is not stable in such conditions, though, it could become a growing problem for Lucid if they don't get to the bottom of it before more Gravities with HUD units go into production.

QA either missed this, or it was a compromise to ship the car before being able to fix this properly.

It seems multiple owners have this issue? Probably it will need a recall and hardware replacement.

Lucid has already said they will replace our HUD unit. The problem is that they don't seem to have any available right now. Meanwhile we keep a towel thrown over the screen when driving, but it's not something I'm happy about having to do for an extended period.

I have still not had this issue, and it’s current 132 degrees in the cabin, fwiw.

Do you have any HUD reflection issues other than what we “normally” see on Porsche, Mercedes, etc?
Nope. Just see the outline of the housing. No blue ghosts, friendly or otherwise.
