Drive System Fault Megathread

You cannot explain Bhutan to someone that has never been. In the late 1990s, I ran the first recce cycling trip across Bhutan, from Paro to Trashigang and down to India. Only one road in the country. Needed permission from the King. He thought we wanted to do a fancy Tour de Bhutan race. That was back when there were almost no tourists.

When you did Chomo, was it the Snowman Trek?

Crazy!! I went in 2003 or 2004 and we did not do the Snowman Trek. It was, if I recall , about a 2 week adventure and we went to Chomo base area, past Jichu and a few other peaks . I may have seen Kula Kangri ( don’t recall if that is exact name ) from a distance. There was also another major peak, but I cannot recall its name ( I think it was Great Tiger Mountain??).

I was going to return and do the Snowman trek to see Ganghkar Puensum, but life got in the way.

Here is another recollection. I think my guides nickname was Froggy ( but my memory is blurry) .

We also met one of the queens as she was trekking at the same time!!

Most of the people on the trip were Brits and there we a few Americans.

Bhutan was very special ; it changed me permanently and gave so many things new meaning. Thanks for running a great company; they did a fantastic job. It was flawless.

My wife reminds me that in 2003 and 2004, I was still just guiding. Took over US ops a year or two later. You dealt with Andy or Mark. Andy now owns www.oneworldtrekking.com And I guide for him now and then.

I have been trying to get back into Bhutan since it reopened. Was closed for Covid for a crazy long time. The famous ancient Silk Road - Cross Bhutan trail across the entire country is now open. Was closed about 1908, I think. Amazing village to village trekking.

It is a small world!! Where do you guide currently?

Sorry moderators, I know this is a car forum but a few distractions spice things up. 😊😊

If nobody’s dead, move on with life and see what’s next.
Had a pax die on Kili. She lied on her app about her medical status. Company HQ made the call to the family. Family asked to speak to me, still near the summit. I was scared to death calling them. Expected to get lambasted. Reached the father and mother on the Sat phone. They asked ONE question: was she happy and having a good time? I said yes. Great, they said, she died living her life's passion..........

We gotta talk quick before @hydbob catches us.😎.

A bit of everything. Cape Town biking last Dec, Patagonia last Feb and Madagascar cycling this September. Now, for Andy at One World, I do lots of recce trips, research, planning.

You are one lucky individual!!! Spent many months in Patagonia in the early 2000s , probably wasn’t as crowded then. Torres Del Paine, Fitzroy, Cerro Torre, all so fantastic.

Glad to see a fellow adventurer and Lucid enthusiast. Took a nice drive in the Lucid over to the Tetons a few weeks back. Next best thing to hiking, maybe.

Get this thread back on track!

It really was, and apparently had just had a brand new winch installed - mine was its first tow :D

It was the first Lucid Dwayne the tow truck guy had seen, too, so I spent a bit of time showing him where to find and install the towing eye, how to use the valet card etc.

I wish!

I'd hope that the car would at least limp if only one drive motor was out, though?

Eh, coming on here and bashing Lucid wouldn't achieve anything. I chose Lucid knowing the risks of buying from a new manufacturer, and I knew I was buying a relatively early (05/22) build. The service I've received from the people at both Natick and Tysons goes a long way towards keeping the positive attitude - that and it's still, by a long stretch, the best car I've owned :)
Sorry I missed your post about this mishap, this blows, but I agree your attitude is a good example to some of the more demanding complainers on here, which I think honestly have given this forum a bad image at times. Yes there’s reliability improvements to be made, nobody at Lucid thinks the car is perfect, but every Lucid employee I’ve interacted with gives me the confidence that they’re able to solve problems, implement improvements and do their best to minimize inconvenience if your car has a problem.

Well, my car is back, brought home by the Tysons SC folks this afternoon. Apparently this time the "Drive System Fault" was related to the 2.1.3 update I had installed immediately prior to the drive on which the error occurred. They updated it to 2.1.10 and all seems well. Haven't driven it yet but will likely rack up some miles over the weekend.

Hopefully that's the last time!

So all they had to do was update the software? No actual repair needed??

Yup, no actual fault found or repair needed. They were very keen to establish how recently prior to the error I had installed 2.1.3. I don’t want to feed conjecture, but this may at least partly explain the paused rollout of 2.1.3 and the fairly rapid progression to 2.1.10.

So how's everybody else's day going?

Less dramatic than last time; the 12V systems are all working fine, the car just won't move under its own power. Happened in the parking lot at IAD. Huge kudos to the folks at Tysons who got a tow truck and a loaner to me in next to no time.
Sorry this happened, and I hope you get it back quickly. Glad you're keeping a positive attitude.

If the motors are maybe designed to work synchronously, I can see them just stopping the car for safety issues, but I don't want to make assumptions.

I stay positive as well and when it happened to me, I went around a month and a half with $100 credit every day and I think I drove every single EV out there including the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, X, Y, 3, Polestar 2, Audi E-Tron, Kia EV6, Ford Mach E, Hyundai Ioniq 5... so after I got the Lucid back, I had a huuuuge appreciation for what I had.

It was also relaxing knowing I didn't have to care about driving conditions, no car washes, babying the car, etc... Was kind of relaxing to be honest. But I baby the crap out of my car

Making lemonade out of lemons... No pun intended

We all appreciate you taking one for the team 😉

$100/day credit?

Any comment about the ACs in the EVs you drove? Universally anemic or some more robust than others?

Well, my Turtle Mode appeared immediately after 2.1.3. After a few days of diagnostics, the rear drive unit was removed and replaced. This was done just before 2.1.10 was released. Since just the 2.1.10 install fixed your experience, it is possible that the update was all I needed. I believe my vehicle was addressed in the Tysons SC two days before yours, so you may benefited from this. What matters most is that we are back in business! :)

AC as in aid conditioning right? Not ACC?

It was much cooler (fall time) when it happened to me and so I didn't really use AC much, so it's hard to comment on that to be honest.
