After almost 5 weeks picking up my cross country drive back up where I left off in Frisco, TX. First leg today to Baton Rouge. Charging at 120V, over night charging could not keep me at 80% for the few days I was in Frisco. Started the trip at 62% and headed to an EA station in Royce City east of Dallas. I have never not been able to charge at an EA station, it is also frequently not smooth. First charger #3 comm errors so moved to station #2. That station hung at processing payment. Called EA and after plugging and unplugging several times at station #2 they had me move back to station #3. Multiple failed attempts sent me back to station #2. This attempt they initiated payment and then I plugged in. Success. 25 minutes after first pulling in I’m charging. 350kW charger at 79 degrees with battery preconditioned it only pulled 157kW, at 77% down to 87kW, and 68kW at 87%. After 30 minutes 52% to 92%. Not bad.

EA told me to make sure my phone app was closed and initiate charging from the car as Lucid indicated the problem was with the app.

296 miles to a ChargePoint level 3 in Alexandria, LA.

Pulled into planned charge point at 12%. The only Level 3 is in use. Plugged into level 2. What a waste of time. 6kW so maybe 5.5 net. I need to be min 30% to get to next EA charger. 4 hours Charge time at this rate. The BMW iX on the fast charger is at 88% and pulling 22kw. Will probably be a 20-30 minute Wait.

90 degrees outside
72 degrees AC
85 cruise
Was at 3.0 miles kWh for most of the way, average dropped to 2.9 between 30% and 12%

295.3 miles 100 kWh.

50 minute wait for the iX to go from 88% to 100% for the iX. That last 12% was slow.

This is the 4th and 5th time I have used ChargePoint. Every time so far the app has worked flawlessly and the chargers have all worked.

On iOS tap the charger and approve with wallet. App has history with time, energy, cost for each season.
Attached below the season on the level 2 and the level 3 while in progress.

127 miles to hotel in Baton Rouge from here. Many free level 2 chargers installed by the City In Baton Rouge. Will charge to 50% for a little cushion. Wait for charger 50 minutes and my charge session will be about 50 minutes. Trip today will be ~470 miles with 1:35 charging and 1:15 of waiting/technical issues. If I had been able to start at 100% this morning I could have taken a shorter route and skipped the first charge.

Real world often not optimal.

Aside from the fact that it is much better for the battery pack not to be charged to 100%, the last 10% for any battery pack is slow and it makes little sense to charge it all the way at a charge point on the road (doing so overnight at home is a different matter). The IX should have quit at 80%.

Did you get a chance to converse and compare with the IX owner?

I posted a charging graph a few weeks ago. 80%-100% is slower on the Lucid than going from 20%-80%.

I believe you were at Walmart in Denton. I was there 3 weeks ago, 3 stalls were not working for me. Also south of Dallas Ennis station has issues too.

The iX was being delivered to customer tonight. Dealership does not have fast charger. Kid doing the prep was instructed to take it to charger and go to 100 unfortunately. He had driven it all of 2 miles. I got a chance to drive an iX. It’s nice. If the Lucid had the iX software and physical buttons for mirrors and homelink, perfect. I’m sure someone will post software issues with iX. If my wife goes EV next vehicle the iX is a possibility. The Lucid is still the only EV I would want, right now. Range and performance being key for me.

Made it to Baton Rouge with 11% charge. Free charger at a $15 night parking garage. Charging at 6kW. No reservations for tomorrow night. Driving east on 10. Will be my first experience driving longer distance on an interstate with Level 3 chargers ~every 100 miles. Will be an opportunity to stay between 20-80% and charge fast.

Yeah. I have driven the IX. The range is a little iffy but BMW seems to have done a good job at efficiency and the range is based in part of BMW reserving about 10% of the battery pack. I almost pulled the trigger on a deposit on an IX as a backup plan but decided that I just couldn't handle looking at the front end of the vehicle every time I entered my garage (and I am a BMW driver/owner). So I made the Cadillac Lyric AWD version my backup plan.

Do you have a 2022 reservation or 2023 for the Lyric? The Lyric looks much better than the iX, that’s for sure. I have a GMC pickup on order and just got bumped from 2022 to 2023 as GM is out of 6.2L for 2022. Strange new world where you can’t buy a car without a preorder and a wait.

2023. Just did it a few days ago. Fortunately, my 2018 BMW 530e is very comfortable and I have MBI with GEICO to protect me now that the original warranty has expired and the GEICO insurance will continue until the end of 2024.

I still prefer the Lucid if it can deliver on its promises but I think the Lyric AWD is a great backup plan.

Baton Rouge to Tallahassee I left with 80%, first stop at best EA location yet. Design made easy to pull in and hook up and all the equipment was in service. Gulfport premium outlets. Plugged into a 350kW. Bathroom break and stop in the UA store. Back to the car in 27 minutes 46% to 84%. Next stop Pensacola square. Both of the 350kW stations were dead. I plugged into a 150kW and charged from 47% to 79% in 22 minutes. Not much different than the 350kW. I did precondition for both. I have had multiple 150kW stations provide 173kW. Pulled in for the night in Tallahassee at 14%. The hotel had 2 Tesla destination chargers and 1 j-1772. The j-1772 was in use. The Tesla adapter worked perfectly. Pulled 9kW and I was at 80% in the morning.

The dealer knocked the "new" off that battery before it was even delivered into the customer's hands. 😢

Tallahassee to St Augustine stopped at another EA site that was in perfect working order in Lake City FL. Plugged into a 350kW. After the advice from EA which they said came from Lucid, I have been closing the phone Lucid app and using the pilot panel. Has worked perfectly. I open the app after charging starts to view status. 47% to 80% in 20 minutes. This leg I was running with traffic 90 and accelerating quickly after slowing for traffic. 2.6 mi kWh. Next stop mall in Jacksonville. This stop 1 of the 2 350kW was dead and the other was blocked by an iD4 that charged from 71 to 80% and was idle. Plugged into a 150kW and went from 59% to 86% in 23 minutes. From there to St Augustine and then to Daytona no charge needed. Fairfield inn across from the speedway has a charger and the Air is plugged in pulling 6kW. Note that temps have been in the 90s for the last couple days. Other than the stint I got 2.6 have continued to get 3.0 when using cruise and staying at 85 or less. The adaptive cruise has worked perfectly, the minimum follow distance does encourage people dive bombing in front of you when there is slower traffic. Rain tomorrow so not sure if we will run laps on the track or not.

2023. But I am not in a great rush. My current DD is very, very nice so I can comfortably wait for either the Lucid or Lyriq.

One of the things I like about my BMW is that I can "code" the car to change the adaptive cruise control distance from farthest to closest. Now cars aren't constantly jumping in front of me. Is this adjustable in the Lucid? If yes...is the adjustment sticky or does it have to be activated each time you start the car?

It is adjustable but defaults to the furthest each time. the adjustment is button on steering wheel, easy, but must be changed each time cruise is turned on. The Lucid currently lacks for customization compared to ICE vehicles.

Range and over all performance I don’t think anything beats the Lucid. I know the arguments for the Plaid. It nags at the portion of my brain that wants to believe Lucid will get better that the car was released with no Car Play when the majority of new car buyers in the US list that as a must have. Music and Nav very important to almost everyone. You can only connect Bluetooth sources, no music from usb. The Bluetooth functionality is lacking compared to any other car I’ve driven including rentals. The music interface is unusable while driving. The “apps” like tidal implementation is also lacking. The Nav is not that good and no volume or mute. Homelink is horrible. Except the Nav these are for most people every time functions. The lack of attention to detail in these areas worries me. Also, I can’t have nav up top and music on the pilot screen or vis versa. Has to be all Nav or all music. That’s just stupid. I’m very interested in the first update that makes interface improvements.

I was afraid of that. We should make the adaptive cruise control engineer drive in a car with ACC on set at the farthest distance for a few hours. Then they will make it sticky!
