I was reversing in a parking garage this morning and unbeknownst to me there was a half second lag in the rear camera and overhead camera, which resulted in my hitting the wall (thankfully it was just the wall and not another car). I took some video of the lag after the incident to provide to Lucid.

I imagine this will cost $500-$1,000 to fix the rear fender, so I called Lucid and said I don't feel like this should be my responsibility given the cameras were not working correctly and the agent's response was that the cameras are "supplemental" and that essentially I shouldn't be soley relying on them, so even if they were faulty it's not Lucid's responsibility to fix it. I voiced my issues with this stance and she said she will escalate and "leadership" will look into it. I'm not exactly holding my breath, but I'll follow-up in a week or so.

I know some people's Lucid's have had no problems and others have had chronic issues, my car is def. more of the latter but I've put up w/ all of them as Lucid has been fairly quick to fix these issues free of charge. But if I'm now going to have to go out of pocket $500-$1,000 to fix body damage as a result of this camera issue, It's just going to further erode my confidence in this car and company.
  • Has anyone ever experienced a camera lag before? I've never see that before - but I have noticed the software has been pretty sluggish lately. I have a mobile appointment already scheduled for later this week for unrelated issues (panel piece coming loose, phone audio issues, rubber seal on door is falling off, seat adjustment not working) so figured I can have them reset it while they're here.
  • Anyone have experience w/ Lucid paying for body damage related to faulty tech?
Thanks!

I am not sure why you would expect Lucid to repair the fender. The "laggy" camera was not the cause of the car hitting the wall. Your backing up into the wall was the cause. I understand the complaint that the cameras are laggy and that you wish the sensors gave you more warning to stop. However, I don't understand your request for Lucid to repair your fender.

I have it lag always especially when backing out of my garage. Spoke with my SA and his response is cameras are to assist. I said then its not good assistance 😀

Thanks for clarifying the cameras did not cause my car to hit the wall - very helpful.

What year is your Air? I wonder if the delay is worse in the pre-25 MCU (CPU). I have yet to notice a camera delay in my '25 but I'll be watching out for it now, as my parking garages near work are little death mazes.

I'm pretty sure it is. I get the rear camera view pretty quickly in my 22, but the overhead sometimes has a delay before coming up. And the parking thing is 50/50. Sometimes it turns on automatically when I'm pulling into a spot. Other times I have to hit the button.

😅 how many times the turn signal fails ! If you hit someone because they are in your blind spot and turn signal camera does not work, it will be your fault

If your turn signal cameras are failing often, that is not the status quo, that is something to press service on. Mine have failed once in my 2 years with the car, and that was a known bug in one previous version.

To not sound completely insensitive, I’m sorry that happened. However, the cameras are there for ADDITIONAL safety when parking and backing out, etc. Mirrors should always be used as well as turning around and looking. Technology is a great asset, but shouldn’t be counted on 100% over actually looking.

I agree, mostly - but when the cameras suddenly start giving you bad data (in this case a 1/2 second lag) I think it's a slightly different case.

This would be like if you set cruise control at 70 mph and got pulled over and the police offer told you were going 78. It's just bad data.

I disagree with most of the comments here. Nowhere in the manual does it say that the cameras may lag. If it is not mentioned, one would assume that they don't.

Ahem, it, uh, literally does tell you not to rely on it, though, on page 135 for 'Surround View Monitoring' and on page 137 for 'Rear View Monitoring'. But you know, who reads manuals.

Please be nice your friendly volunteer moderator group.
t was sort of a jerk thing to say to someone who just mashed up his Air (the cameras did not cause you to crash)

Can we also have the moderators to be nice to other people, or that's not how it works? If not, can you please ban me.

Thanks.
We are. We also strongly believe in personal responsibility and not blaming a car company for all the issues that are caused by operator error. 😁
