Lucid Air Touring
I'm a previous Tesla owner, got my first Lucid (Air Touring) a couple of months ago. Performance, handling, and overall driving experience is great - as expected. However, it's been one issue after another since day one... not acceptable for a $90K/luxury car in my opinion.

I walked up to my car earlier today, parked in my garage, still plugged-in to the Lucid charger from when I came home last night. Sadly, I'm used to door handles not presenting all the time right away but this time there was no response at all despite my phone being in my pocket and key-fob in my hand. Pushing the key-fob button didn't do anything. Lucid app on my phone stuck with "still waking up" spinner. I also tried using the keycard with no luck. The car/computer is completely unresponsive, despite having EV battery fully charged based on charging notifications I received overnight. Very frustrating not being able to leave the house but at the same time lucky this didn't happen while I was out. It's Sunday and Lucid Customer Service is closed. The roadside politely offered to tow it to the nearest Lucid service 80 miles away (dumb decision on my end to get a Lucid before they open a service shop in my town). The tow truck dispatch said they see this problem often, suggested I wait a few hours as it might miraculously solve itself ("these cars sometimes just decide to take a break"). Waiting now until the morning and if no change, I'll be towing it to service, which I already know is backed up and won't be able to work on it for few weeks. I know this because I have an appointment for a different issue scheduled 3 weeks from now, which was the first available appt when I made it 2 weeks ago.

Few days after picking up the car from a Lucid studio, the driver-side rear door handle didn't present when I walked up to it so I tapped it with my finger, which usually does the trick after a short delay (annoying). This time the handle pulled in and remained in that position for a bit then popped out but I was not able to open the door by pulling the handle like usual. I was not able to open that door for several weeks, until Lucid service tech came out and replaced the faulty lock assembly. The handle remained presented the whole time, even while driving. These problems were successfully fixed during 2nd scheduled service appt at my home, after the service tech obtained the necessary replacement parts.

During the same service appt I've reported how the auto unlocking/locking doesn't work well, how random it is. The tech verified that my Lucid app has location permission set to 'always' on my phone and then told me that my key-fob battery needs to be replaced. I said I already did that, replaced with a brand-new Energizer Max battery. The tech suggested it had to be a Panasonic battery for it to work well and replaced it with one of those. As expected, the problem did not go away - the automatic locking/unlocking is just as bad as before battery replacement suggesting the computer has connectivity problems and/or poor signal processing.

A couple of months ago, the day I drove the car off from the Lucid studio, I noticed that certain songs I played caused a rattle in the area behind the passenger-side rear seat. It makes it sound like a poor-quality system in a cheap car. Somewhat different type of rattle can be heard when the sounds system is not on at all. The service tech said he couldn't reproduce it even though he was able to hear it in videos that I took and played for him. For second service tech visit, I found a song that consistently makes the rattle sound, and the tech was able to hear it in person. He identified the rattle was coming from the rear deck/trim panel or parcel shelf. The rattle can be heard by tapping on the outside cross panel above rear windshield. For this to be fixed, I have a tow-out to Lucid service scheduled in 3 weeks as it cannot be completed at my home.

A smaller issue but also annoying... Lucid floor mats are detaching from floor pins and sliding under my feet - I have to realign and push them back onto the floor pins every time I enter/exit the car. All floor mat corners in this car have been curved up since day one.

Issues with media memory/connectivity - my music favorites often disappear for a while then reappear. Sirius satellite radio connectivity issues are frequent in the same locations in which my previous cars never had issues acquiring signal. Bluetooth/Apple car integration is buggy and sometimes doesn't respond or function properly.

Seems like you got a bad drawer. I got my AT in February and it hasn’t seen any of your issues. My door handles wake up 95% of the time before I get to the car and the other 5% it’s within a second or two of getting there. Something definitely seems off with yours. Unfortunately, every luxury car maker has some that come off the lot with problems. Not excusing the bad draw you got, but it is the reality. If you go to the Tesla, Audi, BMW, etc forums you will see the same thing.

Simple, don’t use key fob and phone key. Pick one.

Rear rattle easily fixed

Get aftermarket floor mats, no car company makes good floor mats

It’s a brand new car company, what else did you expect? Toyota like reliability? These are easily fixed minor issues.

What a pain. One thing that fixed a lot of this for me was just turning off passive unlock. My garage is built into my house in such a way where the car was snagging my Bluetooth signal multiple times when I was home. When it does that enough but no one actually opens a door, I understand it just gives up. Turning it off still leaves me having to touch the doorhandles twice more than I should have to, but it has also cleaned up a number of bugs and annoyances and passive unlock is not a feature I car much about anyway.

My working theory is the Bluetooth is at the root of many of the Air’s annoying software bugs.

Carry the fob or phone as a key, not both. If you use the fob, use batteries that do not have a bitterant coating.

Your other door issues should be addressed by service.

In the Air and Gravity, Sirius XM is carries over the car's cellular connection, not Sirius' satellite connection. Lucid's cars do not have a satellite antenna.

After multiple subwoofer replacements and rear deck rattle "fixes", my car still rattles behind the rear seat at certain frequencies when played at a normal volume. Have given up on this issue at this point.

Come on, we can like a car brand without being so loyal that we gaslight an owner for calling out real issues or pretending that having your car or doors randomly not work are just "easily fixed minor issues." That kind of attitude and willful blindness is just fine for people with multiple cars to choose from in the morning, but it's silly to pretend Lucid is selling itself as a hobby car. They're selling themselves as the car that can do everything so that you don't *need* a hobby car.

I have reported same/similar issues with my lucid AT. Very disappointing. So much so that, as I said, in my previous posts that I am selling the car. It looks better, and drives better than a Tesla but if you can’t get in the car when you want to, that is very frustrating and not worth the hassle… And not worth it to have a car that’s 90% great and 10% terrible.

I got Lucid Air pure in August 2024. I remember buying in first Tesla in 2020 and it was a stressful decision as my life is busy and I did not have time for repairs when the service was bad. Fortunately for me over 4 years of ownership I had no issues. My family hated the ride quality of Tesla so I sold it last year and got Lucid. I knew the risks and I was willing to live with them. For me the car has been reliable. Only issue I have run into is doors unlocking slowly. I refuse to carry a fob. So when I am in a public place and my car is not opening I open the Lucid app as it somehow opens the door locks. Other times I pretend to make a fake phone call so people don’t find out that doors are not unlocking. I am hoping that they will eventually figure this out.

I'm coming up on 3 years of ownership, and my 2022 GT has been generally fine. No unscheduled service visits. Locking/unlocking could definitely be better, it detracts from the car. I haven't had to resort to a fake phone call 😆.

Hope your 2024 treats you well.

Been waiting on my rear shelf replacement to address the audio issue for a few months now. Guessing production on this part is halted for Gravity. Really not cool how my sound system reminds me of the '90 Accord I had back in high school.

Locking/unlocked is another well-documented problem. Lucid tried something innovative but it hasn't worked (90% doesn't cut it), as evidenced by their decision to change it up with Gravity.

A new manufacturer's first model is not for the faint of heart.

They may also need to replace your subwoofer at the same time. Which will work for a few weeks and then the rattling will come back.

Those mats have a recall out as well.

LOL! This is funny. I have caught myself doing the same trick a couple of times in public. Maybe not pretending to call, but certainly pretending to type / scroll on my phone.

I've been told the parcel shelf I'm waiting on is a re-designed part specifically to address the rattle I'm experiencing. I guess we'll see.

Yep - I have been said the same for V2 of the rear parcel

Exactly which car companies (I guess all according to your post) are struggling with making decent floor mats? Because I must have been unbelievably lucky in the course of my lifetime to buy 40+ cars and have had zero floor mat related problems - I didn’t realize this was such a complex manufacturing problem. /s

This is correct. Mine was changed a while ago and I have not had any rattles since.

The mats that were recalled were not these; the car originally had Velcro fasteners and the all weather floor mats they shipped had no Velcro. That’s the reason they were recalled.

The ones with posts have never been an issue; first I’ve heard of it was this post.
