How is the Press Responding to the opening of Gravity Orders?

“I see it as disconnecting. You get rid of every notification and all of the things in all of the screens, and it’s essentially do not disturb. There is nothing on the screens but pretty. No calls, no texts, nothing at all. I don’t care if it matches the scenery behind it. It is a pleasant DND that you can set for 10-15 minutes or whatever. Because otherwise you’re just staring at a dumpster and you might as well just look at your phone.”

Word for word from Annie’s mouth just now. :P
She also brought up the good point that “moms,” on average, spend a lot of time in their cars - between appointments, in school pickup line, etc. It’s not during DCFC charging that this matters, but whenever you’re waiting in your car; and if you can relax for 10 minutes before your six year old gets in the car and starts screaming, that’s appealing.

Of course plenty of dads and men live in their cars too, but you know what I mean. I say “moms” as a defining parental role, not to distinguish by gender.

Makes me wonder if @borski has a Gravity, may be a pre-prod, given to him for test. Is he the dude we have been seeing in pictures hanging out at super chargers???? 🤔

Definitely not. I’ve just sat behind the wheel a few times to play with the UI and stuff in pre-prod prototypes (same as anyone at any of the studios; not all prototypes had working software though).

And I was lucky enough to be a passenger in one of the Gravity motocross runs at the factory.

But I have never driven a gravity.

If Sanctuary Mode could tap into one of the streaming services to project, that would be "fire" (as my young nieces and nephews say)!

The footnote to the feature says "This feature is optional and not available as standard. Additionally, some entertainment or connected vehicle features require enhanced vehicle wireless connectivity and/or additional third-party subscriptions to operate".

I think I read or heard somewhere that Sanctuary software is licensed from a third party. I wonder if it's a feature that at some point will turn into a subscription fee item?

What I would most like is being able to watch YouTube on the screen while sitting in the car. (That is one of only two features that I prefer about our Tesla software over our Air software.) If I need to go to that "other place" for a while there is always Renee Fleming, Anna Netrebko, Elina Garança, or one of my favorite cosmology channels.

I’m excited for options, hopefully.

It’s gonna be hard to be jealous of her Gravity from my Air, but to be fair, I do live in the clouds and she’s much more grounded, so I suppose it fits.

I guess sanctuary mode is kind of an interesting little trick, but to me it's more like "emissions testing mode" in my Tesla - something kind of neat and funny but probably didn't take too long to "engineer" and is not the kind of thing the vast majority of people are going to use more than once or twice.

I'm hoping for something akin to Camp Mode in the Rivians - allowing me to turn off all the lights and screens while keeping select features (HVAC, USB and power ports, etc) on. Also not hard to implement - probably something they can do in software pretty easily. That would be more of a real "sanctuary" allowing me to use my Gravity as a luxury tent. Esp with the vast room inside, I think this would be an excellent use case for the vehicle. Admittedly also probably a bit of a "boutique" use case, but one I would definitely get a lot of enjoyment from.

Watching YouTube or other content would be amazing. Safety feature like "car must be in park" definitely needed. Probably already exists with sanctuary mode.

If the sanctuary content can be displayed, maybe other content as well.

We have this in our Volvo EV. It's handy while sitting in the car waiting for someone.

Even if nobody else got it, I thought it was funny.

I'm very sad that the rumored Dec. 9 embargo appears to have been no more than just a rumor :(

That said, I can't believe that a serious in-depth review could possibly be shot, edited, and released in a week, esp. if it's the kind of in-depth stuff we'd typically see from Throttle House and Camissa, and that from only a one day press day. I wonder if expectations don't need to be dampened. (I think back to, say, the road trip that the Throttle House guys took the Cybertruck on.) Maybe they could do a "first look" or "first drive" thing but unless everyone was given a Gravity to take out for a few days, it just can't be that much content, can it?

Here's hoping we either get some short teaser to tide us over a bit, while they are still out there driving a couple of test cars hard for in-depth reviews to come out in a few more weeks.

Out of Spec

Yep. It came up 7 minutes ago. An hour and 12 minutes, as you might expect from Out of Spec.

So . . . I'm off to the races. See you folks later.

Holy crap. They're going to augment this hour-plus video with a 2-hour "in depth" look at the Gravity.

Car and Driver did a basic nothing review, 450 mile epa range, 120kw battery and official 0-60 in 3.4. Lame

Just finished the "Out of Spec" review. Their conclusion in a nutshell: best SUV on the market.

The segment starting at 52:40 when they were chasing Jason Cammisa in another Gravity on an entrance sweeper was insane. No vehicle of that size and weight should behave like that.

But sometimes I just can't figure Kyle Conner out:

"I just couldn't ever get comfortable in an Air" said anyone who's ever been in our Air never.
