Why speed limit difference Air Grand Touring vs Air Touring?

Curious why there’s a speed limit difference between the Air Touring @ 140mph VS Air Grand Touring @ 168 mph.

Technology related-

Vehicle top speed is electronically limited by Lucid for various reasons. Tire speed rating is only one factor.
 
The highest speed I've seen (allegedly 🤫) is 145 mph in my Touring with 20" OEM wheels and tires. It's electronically limited, and it's noticeable when the acceleration abruptly lets up. You can tell the car wants to and can go faster, so a bit disappointing, in my opinion.
 
It'd be tough to get going quite that fast on my local track, and I haven't taken it on a drag strip yet, so let's say Mexico. 😁

On my own trips to Mexico, 145 feels quite deceptively comfortable. The same chassis has been tested over 200mph, right? No stability issues. Calm and collected. The stopping distance with these brakes from that speed is a little hairy though.

With the all seasons there’s some wander and vagueness at high speeds. Regen in Sprint is pretty aggressive. I think the brakes are very good at scrubbing off speed. Nothing like my cars with CCB but confidence inspiring nonetheless. Love that they’re hydraulic and not brake by wire. The only cars I’ve driven that feel right are any Porsche and the Caddy Blackwings. Everything else I’ve driven with brake by wire plain sucks.
 
Maximum speed in my Touring is always 145miles/hr or 233km/hr. Tires are Pirelli hl265/35 r21103y. No idea why it's limited at this speed.

I’m not sure how anyone could get around with a top speed limit of 145mph. Unimaginable. ;)

Yes. It cuts acceleration there. You could go faster down a hill presumably, but it won’t be helping out.

230kmh or 143mph. Was told that this is software limited only and thus changeable. ;) GT goes 270kmh or 168mph

The car drives very nicely and safe at that speed for extended periods of time (autobahn). Efficiency will be 1-2miles/kw at best but worth it. The fans are working hard acceleration is great even when the battery is below 20%.

That said, I can't see any reason that there is a difference in top speed between models apart from marketing better specs for the pricier model.

Only difference with the other models, such as GT is that the battery pack is heavier, thus the load on the battery is lower in the GT compare to Touring.
But if that would be the limiting factor, then why there's still so much acceleration possible at that speed before it's cut off abruptly.
 
For legal reasons, I can neither confirm nor deny that my Touring may or may not have potentially reached a top speed of 142 MPH today.
It was surprising, as there was still plenty of road ahead. I quickly looked it up, though, and felt much better discovering that it’s actually a software limit.

what do you mean for legal reasons? did you reached 142MPH or not? why so secret about it haha.

I felt the opposite, that such software limit at such early stage limiting the speed is unnessary and annoying.

Until centrifugal force rips your tires apart.

Bugatti had to reinforce their tires with steel if I remember correctly breaking whatever speed record they were attempting. Could have been a different company or different material. Either way, it is safety related.

Sorry, but this is just nonsense.

I drive the car at 100 to 142 miles an hour on the Autobahn every day. The Pure does the same speed and the GT goes 170 mph which I have also driven. There is no safety limit here.
The tires are rated for those speeds and above and the software limits are set by Lucid and that’s that. Depending on the wheel size, Lucid uses the same tires across their models.
