Drive System Fault Megathread

I just got the Drive System Warning for the first time. Dec 2022 build Touring (13,471 miles). Lucid had already reached out to me the other day and want to take my car to Houston to replace the HV battery as the diagnostics had already shown an issue.

That’s exactly what happened to my car too. September 2022 GT with 33,000 miles. Took them less than a week to replace the HV battery and return the car to me via auto transport. This was out in Southern California.
 
My car was picked up this morning. They are also quoting around a week to do the replacement. I'll miss my Lucid while its gone!
 
I also received the Drive System Warning early last week. The next day they brought me a loaner Lucid and hauled my car to Millbrae. I have not yet received a diagnosis, but suspect that it could be the HV battery due to my early serial number. I've never received this message on my app when in service, which furthers my suspicion of the HV battery.

I have not yet received a diagnosis, but suspect that it could be the HV battery due to my early serial number. I've never received this message on my app when in service, which furthers my suspicion of the HV battery.
The VINs are not sequential. What is your build date?
 
My Air was returned to me with a new HV battery pack yesterday. Basically a week turn around. Communication from Lucid was excellent and the process was very easy. They had their own flatbed driver that took the car between Dallas and the Houston service center. Completely satisfied and much easier than taking the car to a traditional local dealer to be honest.
 
Drive system fault error out of nowhere while waiting for the green light at a busy intersection. The car would not move but I could shift to neutral to be lifted on a flat bed. I tired Air logo reset but this didn't make and difference what so ever. It took me a while to figure out where the tow hook is attached. It is just above the front bumper lip towards the driver side behind the rubber plug. The tow hook is located in the trunk passenger side corner under cover. No previous symptoms or warnings. Car currently has 8180 miles and SOC was at 76% when it happened. Called Lucid road side assistance. They assigned a tow truck company that was more than 1 hour away. Estimated time was 99 minutes. I called emergency number for police assistance. This was rush hour and busy intersection. Due to safety concerns of mine and others I thought police presence would be beneficial. State police unit arrived and an officer suggested using his push bumper to push the car away from the intersection. I refused claiming potential damage to the car. He then called for another tow truck stating the car can't block the road and issued me a ticket for refusing him to push the car and blocking the roadway. (I know this is ridiculous). First towing truck came and dropped the car back home which was less than 2 miles away. The cost $225 out of pocket. Hopefully Lucid can reimburse that. Second tow truck came in that was initiated by Lucid Customer Care team to pick up the car and drop it off at KOP service center. One note here when waiting for the second tow truck the car was at my driveway. I exited the vehicle and it went to deep sleep. When I returned to the car to put the registration and insurance back I was able to shift the car to drive and move it. Just a tip for the future for anyone in the similar situation. Try to close the car and put it in deep sleep and maybe you will be able to move it to the safe place from a busy intersection. Shot out to Dana from KOP service center for helping to coordinate everything including a loaner being dropped off later at my home today. She is the best service advisor. Now I am waiting for more updates from Lucid and court day to fight the ridiculous citation. Judging by the previous post either HV battery or the motor unit or both need to be replaced. The car for reference is 2023 Lucid Air Pure AWD build date 3/23.

I already received a loaner from the KOP service center. (Thank you Dana!). The loaner was dropped at my house. It's unfortunate what happened to the car but the customer service experience is exceptional. I will post another update once I hear back from the SC.

The most recent update from SC is that... It appears that the issue may be with the accelerator pedal unit.
 
Another update on the progress...replace the accelerator pedal and TCU. Also they working with engineering team on this particular issue.

Someone who complained about the KOP service center in another tread is mistaken. I have only good things to say about KOP. Constant updates on the process, working around my schedule., and providing loaner when available. Dana and Richard are great. They only have limited number of loaners available. I am sure they are prioritizing based on severity of an issue. For example if someone has complete DSF failure and can't drive would probably get a loner faster than someone who needs their panels realigned or rattles fixed.
 
Yesterday I received my car back and all appears to be working correctly. Here is the final update:

Cause: Performed vehicle report and found P1500x00 stored in Vehicle Control Unit. Followed Fault Tree and inspected Accelerator Pedal for properPower Supply and Ground Circuit voltages. Inspected and compared waveform of APP1 and APP2, OK. Inspected Accelerator Pedal connector andharness, inspected C20 connector and harness, inspected VCU connectors and harnesses, no abnormalities found. Opened case (00682012) and wasescalated to Engineering. Found an internal fault and the Accelerator Pedal and VCU needs to be replaced.

Corrections: Replaced the Accelerator Pedal and VCU. Performed all necessary Service Routines, OTA Flash (FSEE ID FSEE-22311), road tested andno Drive System Fault returned.
 
Excellent information, especially about the deep sleep solution temporary fix. That could be useful in a pinch to get to safety. The question then becomes if this was an isolated failure, or if their have been multiplate instances. I suppose if it was the latter, they'd determine if the fault can be tied to a specific batch of controllers, and if so, proactively reach out to affected parties. Otherwise, if it's an isolated failure, not associated to a broader production issue with a specific batch, then it is what it is.

I don't envy the job of vehicle manufacturers. Thousands of hardware components, the failure of which can lead to a non-drivable vehicle.

Interestingly, one course of action could be a software change which recognizes the fault and rather than leaving the vehicle dead in its tracks, proactively triggers a reboot (or whatever sequence would replicate the wake-up from deep sleep), allowing the potential for a better temporary outcome than being stuck at an intersection. Until such time, though, it's good to keep that tip in your back pocket.

Great to hear about the level of service, too, but sorry to hear about your ticket, let us know how that plays out!
