[URGENT] $7500 credit for current reservation holders

I would encourage that and it will be a smart move to make those customers with the existing reservations love their cars to promote them. BTW, Tesla did the same thing in the beginning and offered free FSD to many customers until 2019.
It was easier for Tesla to offer free FSD because it was all software. The LiDAR units alone, which are part of DreamDrive, are a few thousand dollars each.

Tesla had the LiDAR unit included in all Tesla cars back in 2019.

Sure, but they were including it either way - the incremental (CapEx) cost to offering FSD was $0, as LiDAR was included on every car.

Lucid is only including the LiDAR if you pay for DD Pro, which means the incremental cost to Lucid to offer DD Pro isn’t $0; it’s the cost of the LiDAR unit and additional cameras, at minimum.

That’s what I meant by it was easier for Tesla to offer free FSD than Lucid; it cost Tesla nothing to do so from a hardware perspective.

(Unless they were also only including LiDAR on cars that had FSD? But I don’t think that was the case)

FSD is still not a usable offering after all these years. How many of you think DDPro will be a viable option in the next 3 years?

I honestly have no idea. I’m heartened by the fact that they (and others) are working with NVidia for it, and I’m not keen to apply Tesla’s failed promises to Lucid. That said, I have absolutely no idea. I’m hoping though!

Wait a sec! I didn't know that. Where was the lidar unit mounted? Disclaimer: I have never owned or driven a Tesla.
I took this at face value, but I’m actually not sure.

Tesla's production cars have never had lidar. They did have radar until recently. Now cameras-only + ultrasonic parking sensors.

You brought up a good point! Tesla did have to add the LiDAR or other needed hardware in all cars (2021 and below) for free but they played it in very smart way. They are recording and training all the data from drivers for FSD development. Eventually, they will make a lot of money from those who want to subscribe in FSD.

Lucid still did not confirm officially about not including the needed hardware in their lower versions (T and Pure) for later activation of Dream Drive Pro.

I may cancel my Lucid order if the hardware will not be included in the Pure without paying ($9k or $10k). I really do not like to pay extra money for it without knowing when the feature will be available to use. I hope Lucid will find a way to make their customers happy without loosing the profits.

Tesla have great cars, a lot of features are enabled after each software updates and the Auto Pilot is just amazing but the build quality and their customer service are horrible.

This. My 2019 X Raven switched from using cameras+radar to cameras only when I enrolled in the FSD beta program. It’s pretty amazing given that it’s only vision based, although I’ve noticed that the distance measurement when pulling into my garage is less accurate now. I have some lawn equipment stored in front of where I park the Tesla. When it was cameras+radar it would very accurately state 12” from the equipment when I parked. With vision only, I’m about 18” from the equipment when it reads 12”.

Tesla cars do not have lidar and never have. Tesla did not upgrade cars for free. If you paid for full self driving, Tesla updated your car to compute hardware version 3. If you didn't buy full self driving, no upgrade.

Wrong! Tesla had LiDAR in all cars before 2021 models. They exclude the LiDAR after this date when they developed their software version to depend on camera only to save the cost. All 2020 Tesla models and beyond equipped with AP3 hardware compute with no cost whether you buy FSD or not.

Radar and Lidar are two completely different things. Could you please point us to one article anywhere that says Tesla used Lidar? I’m genuinely curious.

There are a lot of Tesla owners on this forum. Probably don’t want to make such assertions before being 100% sure.

A quick Google search will tell you Tesla has never used LiDAR.

My 2019 Model 3 has radar, not LiDAR. And the radar is now disabled with newer software updates.

My friend’s 2021 Model Y never had radar.

Neither of us have LiDAR, because Tesla doesn’t make cars with LiDAR.

Back on topic, the IRS is looking for public feedback on how they should interpret the new rules for the EV incentive. In other words, what constitutes a binding contract is one of the things they're asking about.

There is some help as to how to submit comments in this thread in the Rivian subreddit.

I don’t understand why aren’t there more posts or backlash about the current situation. Any updates on the irs definition of valid orders?
