Tesla / Lucid Talk

And CR has always stated that the reliability & the fit & finish of Teslas is quite poor (borne out by their statistics which you conveniently omit), yet owners still stick with the company. That's fine, they acknowledge that. However Lucid owners & prospective owners are not looking for the kind of quality (or lack thereof) that Tesla offers. There is a huge difference in how these 2 cars are assembled.

Yes I agree with your point that CR has stated that teslas have some quality issues when surveying customers, which can easily be diagnosed and fixed over the air. This metric isn’t something that CR understands, which is why it’s contradictory to them being ranked #1 in customer satisfaction. If the problems were big and costs consumers a lot of money then satisfaction would have plummeted, but that’s not the case. Customers like me are quite happy bc Tesla took care of me and my needs whether it be software or sending out service technicians to my house. So to me the “satisfaction” metric year over year of ownership is what matters. I would never accept half the kind of issues Bill is complaining about. Do I think Lucid can overcome these hurdles? Let’s hope CR doesn’t test one of these vehicles out right now because it would be disaster. If these problems persists, Lucid has two options: halt production until the bugs are ironed out, or slow down production until the bugs are ironed out. Their delivery numbers for 2021 will give us some form of understanding into their internal workings.

Well this is all entertaining although distracting for the reason the vast majority of us participate in this forum, which is to find out more about the Lucid we own or will own in the not so distant future. Maybe we can move this thread to something like "Tesla lovers." I, like so many here, have owned several Teslas, and have no interest in debating one vs the other. We voted with our feet.

Its great you guys voted with your feet that’s fine, what you and others are not understanding is that different people come here for different reasons. I bought Lucid stocks even before the ticker symbol changed awhile back when they were going through an SPAC merger with Churchill Capital when the ticker symbol was CCIV, people in my circle have a stake in the company and while it’s great to hear good news it could also become an echo chamber while the bad news are ignored. Some vote with their feet, others vote with their wallets, for each their own. See my Lucid stock purchase in the attached photo.

Starting with @cybertruck's first post on the previous thread, the discussion got derailed. I have moved all posts afterwords to its own discussion regarding Lucid & Tesla. I hope this can continue to be an educated discussions regarding both automakers and not a battle. Otherwise I will close this thread.

Note. We are on a Lucid forum. There will be a lot of biased opinions here.

How do I delete my account here? I find this forum a bit too bias, this is coming from a Lucid investor.

This is not a Lucid investor site. Never was and I hope it never will be. It’s about the car - plusses and minuses. Pure and simple. And by the way, voting with your wallet is the same as voting with your feet.

I’m a model S and model 3 owner and am here to share my experience as well as my observations on the EV front.

And I traded a 2015 Model S P90D for a Model S Plaid in August, I bought my brother a 2018 Model 3, and I received our Lucid Air Dream Performance on December 31. You don't need to tell me or dozens of other posters here anything about either brand that we don't already know.

When the P90D was less than two years old, a weld joint failed in the battery pack, taking out the pack and the rear drive unit. The car went through four driver door opening mechanisms. It was on its second MCU. We never went a week without some (usually minor) software malfunction. The rear seats were far too cramped for adults to spend much time in. We traded it when we did because the extended warranty was running out, and it was not a car I wanted to keep out of warranty. (That has also been the case with every German car I have owned.)

Our Plaid was in the shop the second week we had it to deal with the steering yoke scuffing on the steering column and to replace the outside driver rearview mirror because it vibrated so badly that you could not resolve images. We're just going to ignore the slightly-yellowish film under the exterior door handles and on the lower rear quarter panels, the poorly-aligned body panels, and a couple of lop-sided pieces of interior trim, as we're learned to live with these Tesla peccadillos.

While the Plaid can be a blast to drive, we have learned not to get all the way into the throttle, as the front end goes so light under hard acceleration that the car sways back and forth coming off the line. The Air, on the other hand, is almost as quick but stays far better planted so that you can actually use all of its accelerative punch safely.

All this said, I think Tesla makes a great product -- but it ain't nowhere near the pinnacle of build quality or engineering you claim.

Tesla makes great products. We loved our Model X. I've helped sell at least 6 Tesla's to other friends and family members. I would definitely recommend a Tesla to anyone interested in buying their first EV.

But two key things you need to understand. First there are many great EVs on the market today. My Taycan Turbo S is the best EV I've owned, and possibly the best car I've owned. My wife loves our Audi E-tron. I recently picked up a Polestar 2 as a "cheap" daily driver and it's a blast. Reminds me of my old Subaru STI from 16 years ago. So Tesla isn't the only EV manufacturer anymore, and there are lots of reason to like other EVs. Including Lucid. Yes they are a startup and it comes with the early adopter issues, but they have a lot of innovation, features, design, and style that happen to be very appealing. So yes many of us are willing to take a risk buying a car from a new automaker. Just like I plan our buying our Rivian R1S when it finally comes out later this year. Just like many early Tesla fans did when most people doubted Tesla could survive.

The second thing you need to understand it that for me personally, the least appealing thing about Tesla is the die hard Tesla fans like yourself. I understand being very passionate about something. But it's really frustrating to have Tesla fans irrationally justify Tesla over every other product on the market, and defend the company at all costs. The fact that you are willing to sign up to a car forum of a brand you have no intention of buying, to simply "sell" people on Tesla on a Friday night says a lot. It would be crazy for me to go to the Mercedes or BMW forum and go on and on about any of the cars I've owned to try and sway them into buying what I believe is the best product.

I honestly believe you are doing more harm to the Tesla brand than helping. You aren't convincing anyone to suddenly cancel their order and buy a Tesla. If anything you are creating people who will no longer consider one simply because they are tired of listening to the irrational supporters.

So very true. My brother, who loves his Tesla, and I talk about this Tesla cult mentality quite a bit. Both Musk's public shenanigans and the slavish, uncritical lapping up of anything that emanates from him or Tesla actually leave a much sourer taste in our mouths than anything about the cars, which we really like for the most part.

Wrong. It’s not just software issues, you’re being deliberately misleading. Explain to me how you repair defective door handles, yellowing center screens, poorly aligned body panels, water intrusion into the taillights and other mechanical issues with OTA updates? BTW, I waited over 1/2 year to get my yellowing center screen replaced by Tesla. What a joke.

OK, I’m done here, enough with this.
