Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

Sadly for my wife, I sold her car in the end of May anticipating delivery sometime in June. I was "promised" in April I would have my VIN issued before the end of May.
Now she is stuck driving my 13 year old airport truck. She is not a happy camper!
Happy wife, happy life and vice versa LOL. I had a March 29 confirm date (white/mojave) and was told 2-5 months so I assumed 5+ months, got my VIN July 5, so thinking maybe Labor Day'ish delivery. That would be just at my 5+ month guess, the wife's car will be sold likely in late Aug. Lucky for me the backup car is a Carrera S so I won't be in so much trouble if I miss the mark by too much LOL.

For the tracker: GT Zenith Red, Santa Cruz, 21” order date 3/5/22, no VIN yet
 
A while back I asked that my car be delayed until spring 2023, because I thought it unlikely that I would receive it this summer and I did not wish to receive the car at the start of winter here. They flat out said no.
I did receive my VIN about 6 weeks ago and haven’t heard a thing.
On a different note, I reached out to Jess yesterday and have not received a reply ( which seems a bit out of character for her). Of course, everyone gets busy or takes vacation !!!😊😊😊. Someone here did mention that they now had a different DA than Jess. Does anyone know if there have been additional changes with DAs? Just wondering.

Just took delivery of our GT, July 9 from Tyson’s. Several fit and finish issues, but did go over it in detail as I’m sure many on here have. All in all, many fewer issues than I know many on here have had. Very pleasantly surprised and grateful for all the checklists that have been posted. Tony was fantastic, taking as much time as we needed. A few observations and questions to see if anyone has had similar issues.

1. Auto wipers did not work. They did not illuminate at delivery, but did later still without working.
2. When tuning off defrost, it didn’t go back to the regular vent settings. It went to 1/2 defrost and 1/2 vent, but really didn’t feel anything through the vent.
3. Doesn’t show whose profile it is when you go to settings. Just an observation.

Touch wood, that’s really it for now…

that's not good. the fact that they are doing "enhanced PDI" and yet the customer is finding fit and finish issues is really bothering me. what type of fit and finish did you notice? do you mind sharing them here or messaging me privately? i'm supposed to pick it up next week and i just want to make sure i don't have them on my car.

so is the car with you now or did you leave it at the service center for them to fix these issues?
 
Yes, will message you and share with anyone who asks. We are super picky and in many places we couldn’t tell if it was supposed to way it was, but noted it just in case. Because of that the list looks long, but may actually be shorter. That being said, it is my wife’s car and she asked if it was built on New Years Day.

Was it raining? The Auto setting only activates when the car detects rain (or when you are in a car wash - which is why it defaults to off, wiper arms ripped off)
 
I think staying silent is important until they can get a handle on what's going on during production and make the process more informative and streamlined. I would counter that the vast majority of their customers aren't nearly on top of tracking their delivery as the members of this forum.
That may be true but there are more and more grumbling going on now in this forum than ever before. If Lucid is try to establish a community of loyal customers, they are going about it the wrong way. My enthusiasum for my car drops a little more each day as I read this forum and see how botched their delivery system is. I just read a forum post from a guy who is very angry that another person received the same type of car he confirmed many weeks before the fellow who received the car did. Lucid really needs to sunshine this process more so we all can be more understanding and appreciative of the issues they are dealing with.

Took delivery of my red/santa cruz Air GT last Thursday.... order confirmed in December though reserved in October...

My enthusiasum for my car drops a little more each day as I read this forum and see how botched their delivery system is. I just read a forum post from a guy who is very angry that another person received the same type of car he confirmed many weeks before the fellow who received the car did. Lucid really needs to sunshine this process more so we all can be more understanding and appreciative of the issues they are dealing with.
Besides the exasperating delay, my main concern is that there seems to be no willingness to share with me, now or upon eventual delivery, the specific reason(s) why my vehicle has not made it out of production over 8 weeks after VIN assignment, when clearly other vehicles are making it through to delivery in less time. At this stage that answer cannot be "waiting for inspection" as the Zak letter suggested, as my car has clearly been side-railed from what ever queuing system they are using. And of course, I not only want to know what the issue(s) is(are), but exactly what steps were taken to correct them.

Good luck on that. I constantly asked for specifics about the delays, but never got anything more than corporate speak. You won’t get any.

Yeah - my expectations in that regard are zilch... That aside, still excited to get my car, one of these days!
 
Even when I got my car I was told the checks they do during the PDI are extreme and Lucid won't release a car to the customer with the slightest issue because the words I were told are "the standards are that high". Since then, the enhanced PDI has come out so clearly the original standards weren't that high and now there is another change to the enhanced PDI. So what did they go from? High, Higher to Highest?

I'm just calling out a comment that doesn't align with the messaging Lucid has been telling customers all along. Quality is of the upmost importance according to Peter. So all us of who got our cars released through PDI and Enhanced PDI have missed other quality checks? Call it negative but when a company repeatedly says they're all about quality and then keep changing the quality inspection then they should be called out on it because clearly it wasn't that good in the first place. If cars are getting produced that need so many quality checks at the end of the line something is clearly wrong.

Lucid does themselves no favors with all the mixed messaging they're telling existing \ future owners. I have my car, doesn't bother me if a future owner gets their car in a week or 3 months but I feel for all the future owners who just seem to be getting screwed over with cars being held up quality checks and getting mixed messaging depending on the DA you get.
I don't know what you expected when buying a car from a startup who started delivering cars in Oct. 2021. Obviously you thought you were buying from a legacy automaker. The most important thing is how they handle quality control issues, and so far have been very good. Lucid will get better and better as they scale up. I had a problem with tire pressure warning light, they sent a tech from Seattle to my house 300 miles away. I also showed him a piece of window trim that had a tiny spot of glue noticeable. Lucid ordered a new piece of trim and are ready to install. When I was was having car wrapped I needed a new Lucid Air emblem for back of car. Lucid ordered and sent it to me free of charge. Now the car has a brake wear light that comes on intermittently and they are picking the car up and taking it back to Seattle to diagnose and install window trim. They also asked if I need a car to drive which I said no. So far what I'll remember is how Lucid performed after the sale.

Nice car. Beautiful car. It has the exact same specs as my order! Did you go through the regular process from confirm to delivery or did you request a delay in delivery? You confirmed 2.5 months before I did and I am trying to forecast my delivery timeframe.

I think it is safe to say that Lucid, itself, did not expect the volume of defects/repairs it has encountered. Otherwise, I am pretty sure they would not have given the guidance they have on the number of cars they expect to deliver this year. They also would have started right out of the gate performing a more thorough PDI at Casa Grande, not at Service Centers.

At some point, Lucid will need to shed the label of start-up if they really are going to use all that capacity they are building.
