Tire blow out

They just repaved many of the streets around my house - maybe that is a sign my Lucid is arriving soon?
My last update remains mid to end of June for VIN. Has your DA provided an update? Mine hasn’t and I’m trying not to be “that guy” by sending too many emails. I don’t want to be told “no soup for you”.

Bah! My front right tire just blew out after driving over a rough patch of road on my way home. On the phone with Lucid customer support, I remembered that I had the EZ Spare and a jack, but, alas, my electric jack is now too tall to fit under the car because of the loss of height clearance from the flat. Doh! Didn't take that into account...

Now waiting for a flat bed tow to my house so Lucid can come out at some point and replace my tire. Guess I need to look for a shorter jack too. Pobably going to have to go manual, unfortunately for my lazy self. 😫
It often is difficult to get a low-profile jack in place when a tire is flat and the car is closer to the ground. For this reason, I carry a 24” 4X4 in my car. Drive your flat tire up onto the 4X4. This typically will raise your car sufficiently to allow placement of your jack.

This is a superb idea. Thanks for sharing. I'll do that.
As long as we're on this subject, one thing I've started doing is to measure the tire pressure on rentals before I leave the lot -- I carry a small digital gauge.
Have seen pressure off by 2-6 psi. Just this past weekend, at the Orlando airport, the Hertz car was off so I asked the attendant who was pulling cars into the lot, presumably from their maintenance/car wash facility, if he could tell me where to inflate the tires. They guy said just go to gas station., which I thought a bit not-Hertz's responsibility kind of response. Well, I did go to 6 (six) gas stations, all of which had a proprietary air pump/vacuum station, which costs $2 for 5 minutes. One of these station took my money but malfunctioned. The other 5 had an out-of-order sign. By this time, I was running out of patience, but luckily, there was a tire shop nearby so I just pulled in and paid them $3 to pump all 4 tires to specs.

I’m imagining you watched many episodes of Macgiver growing up…

A 24” 4x4 plus a jack plus a tire. That takes up a lot of space.

So what is your solution to having a flat? Last time I had one it took AAA 2-1/2 hours to get to my location in a metropolitan area of 7 million. What if I am located much more rural?

Update:

Lucid picked up my car this morning and transported it to Torrance in a covered trailer. They'll replace the tire and do a wheel realignment, which is why it had to go to the service center. Hoping to get it back on Monday, but I asked them to also take a look at my trunk alignment while it was there to make sure it's in spec.

Unfortunately, I'll need to pay for the tire and alignment and will have to then bring the tire to a Pirelli dealer to try to get a warranty claim to reimburse the tire cost.

On the bright side, the Lucid tech who came out said that the car's frame is so rigid that the rear lift plate could be used to jack up the entire side of the car if needed, so I won't have to get a new jack. He also recommended putting a grippy surface on the top of the jack (which is just smoothish steel) because the lift plates are just plastic, so there's not much friction.

I bought the Lucid tire inflator and a spare but still don't want to have to fix a flat. 😕

I have both, but they didn't help me the other day:(

Thankfully, I was only 5 minutes from home. And now I know the rear plate trick, so I should be good in the future 🤞

I’ve been running on low profile tires since 2007 and have never had a flat. Lucky I guess. For battery issues on my ICE cars I’ve always been fortunate enough to have AAA there in an hour or less. Will keep watching the issue on this forum.

I don’t understand what the tire repair kit is for. As far as I can tell, it just inflates a flat tire (and only to a limited psi). So it doesn’t really ‘repair’ anything right?

You can put in the tire slime as part of the inflation. That will seal the hole ( but probably ruin the he tire). If you have a true blow out ( side wall rupture or huge gaping hole in the tread) you will need a spare. And a Jack. And a lug wrench. And and a chunk of 2x4 to roll up on to get the Jack under the car.( thanks kyserenity) I can count on one hand and have fingers left over the number of true blow outs I’ve had in the last 40 plus years driving in the north east. Is it worth having all that stuff in your car and loosing all that storage to avoid waiting for a tow for a once in a decade event? Only you can make that calculation but tires have gotten so much better. Although I will admit going with the 21s I have increased my odds a bit. That’s why I have the spare rim and tire at home. That will cover me for all local driving, getting a tow back o my house to throw a spare on. Even my pothole encounter last month my car was still drive able until the new rims came in.

A ”fix a flat” repair kit will allow you to pump up a tire and get you to a tire store while hours away from a Lucid mobile van. It is useful on fast leaks, but not blowouts. There is a tire repair kit in my Leaf. Comes standard. Never used it, but it Is there. I have had a few nail punctures. They were slow leaks. When the tire pressure was low or the tire went flat, I have been able to pump it up on the spot without using the repair kit before driving to Discount tire for a fix.

Ruining the TPMS or having gel that the tire store would refuse to work with was true a while ago but "modern" formulations are TPMS safe and either can be wiped off with a dry towel or washed out. Kits with the sealant and inflator allow you to inflate the tire while the compressor pushes the sealant into the tire - no need to remove the schrader valve.

@Neurio, I had the same experience with a tire bulge. Lucid replaced the tire. I only paid $146? and they kept the tire and made the claim with Pirelli on my behalf. Not sure why your situation would be different.

Sharing in case its helpful.

Maybe because it was a bulge instead of a blowout? I'll try to sweet talk them in the morning I guess 😊

My bulge I had to pay for. I think it depends what they see on the inside of the tire as to whether or not it would be covered under warranty.
