Kim Java Preview of the Lucid Gravity

Let's bring this back on topic 😁

Gents, why are we forced to choose between Tesla and Lucid? My wife loves her Model X because the FSD, even supervised at the current stage, takes an enormous pressure off her daily commute in Miami. Meanwhile, I love my G580 because it drives like a tank, and I am hyped about the upcoming delivery appointment for my Gravity.

There are brands for different types of people. Let’s coexist. I won’t buy another Tesla because I think they are plastic toys (unfortunately, I have owned too many of them). Still, I am not going to stop people from admiring or loving theirs. People here make fun of Tesla and its fanboys while they themselves display similar behaviors. It is not healthy.

Back to the topic, Kim is one of the early adopters of EVs in the US, and I respect her opinion. She has openly criticized Tesla's lack of innovation many times, and she loves to try all types of EVs. I wouldn’t put her in the Tesla cult just yet. Apparently she loves the Gravity. Good enough for me.

Exactly!

Nobody here has said the opposite. Hell, @Steveinarizona has no Lucid at all and posts regularly. Nobody is tar and feathering him either. :)

People are allowed to like whatever they want. The corollary to that, however, that people seem to constantly be unwilling to accept, is: people are allowed to dislike whatever they want, as well.

People make fun of Tesla for lots of reasons. People make fun of Lucid for lots of reasons. And that is all fine.

It’s super entertaining to see how bad people fanboy in these forums no matter the brand. I bet 90% of the people here will be driving their 100-120k Gravity from point A to point B, driving kids to school, taking their family out to dinner, never taking it off road, using dream drive sometimes because it’s a glorified adaptive cruise and so on. And the same people shit on people driving teslas, most of which are 40-60k model 3’s and Y’s because they do the same mundane stuff, yet their Tesla does it for them with FSD? It’s truly hilarious to read. Grow up. Some people don’t like to drive, some people do. Some people don’t care about high end leather and materials, some people do. Some people like to buy things for the ā€œjust in caseā€ and waste money over spending and some people are practical and buy only the size of the vehicle they truly need. It’s a car, it’s not that serious.
I do agree with you to some extent. My dream car would be a Lucid Gravity with Waymo level FSD. Be in control and have fun at times and then tune out and go FSD at others. My biggest priority now is a good ADAS for mindless long highway drives. 15 years from now as I get into my 80’s my priorities will lean towards a good FSD car so I can just get in and just say ā€œHey Lucid, take me to the grandkids house.ā€ Hopefully by then we will have numerous choices from economy to luxury with Level 5 autonomy.

Of course, thank you for confirming that we are also allowed to dislike this type of pointless name-calling behavior. You like your car; you enjoy it. I would never call any enthusiasts of any brands ā€œfanboysā€ and dismiss their loyalty or preference to their liking; similarly, I don’t want to be called a Lucid fanboy and got dismissed as such. It is pretty easy to apply a double standard nowadays.

OP, sorry for the hijacking here. It won’t happen again.

Wait, have you guys try the Porsche cults? I mean forums?
Every brand have their fan boys.
I loved every car I ever owned. Even my Ford Taurus SHO. :)

Interesting reading the comments section of this review. All of the Tesla fanboys had only one answer, ā€œno FSD so not interested.ā€ Seems that most Tesla owners are willing to accept basic stripped down interiors with minimal luxury as long as the car does all the driving for them. Tesla has been stripping out tactile controls like turn signal and shift stalks, driver displays, etc. as their future plan is that all drivers will just tell the car where to go and then have no more control of the car. You might as well sell your cars and just take Uber.

So, if you just need a car to get you from point A to point B with as minimal of involvement as possible, then get a Tesla. If however you enjoy the visceral experience of driving a performance vehicle, want more tactile luxury, then get a Lucid.
There has been plenty of studies that FSD is not a critical feature to 90% of buyers, along with some rather damning statistics on actual usage/subscription rates for Teslas running FSD miles/total miles. I agree with the final comment, there is no reason to actually buy a car that drives itself, just get a subscription to a robotaxi service.

I understand and agree with some of the points you make but why does Tesla insists on marketing FSD as 'Full Self Driving' when it's not even Level 3 approved! And it can be dangerous and even deadly in some situations where the driver trust the system way more than they should. Did you know the camera Tesla uses to monitor the drive can be tapped over during FSD use and the car will continue to drive itself? Lucid has prepared for this as well with I believe two cameras monitoring the driver at all times. Those things matter!

All auto manufactures have to decide how far they are willing to push the boundaries of self driving and be willing to take the risk, in court if needed. At least Lucid isn't forging ahead until they can offer an Approved Level 3 driving system. Mercedes is currently the only manufacturer to achieve Level 3 approval in CA and NV, with more states to come. That is the correct and safe path forward, at least for me and many other buyers.

I thought MB is geofenced to certain areas and highways, not fully approved for all of CA.
Supercruise is also great for all the mapped areas.
FSD is no where near the level that I'm comfortable with using it and not paying attention. Just last night, it was driving me home, came to a stop light and prepping for a right turn, but I wanted to turn head to the left and see if there's oncoming traffic, the car started beeping @ me and turn off FSD because I was not facing forward, but if I'm facing forward, how am I to monitor oncoming traffic from the left. We'll see how these goes with future updates.
But, I do believe their vision/AI approach is very good for what it is. You can almost go anywhere when there are clear markings on the road. Not sure I can say the same for others.
I don't hate or love any particular brand. I just own/drive what I wanted, and what works for me. Teslas were great for the past decade that I own them, nobody else was doing it, I do a lot of road trips, the EA network is just not cutting it. Gravity with the NACS piqued my interest back to Lucid ( and @borski) . I really wanted an Air for a while, I just like their design. Wife does not feel safe in the back lot of a Wallmart with no lights at 11pm.
I prefer a pramatic approach to my buying decisions, and not politics, or loyalty to a brand.
I'm currently loving my Gravity, but I also like my Model 3 and Model X for what they offer. I'm definitely driving the Gravity more thought. :)

Funny, you know what's not being driven since I gotten the Gravity. The Taycan. weird. Maybe we can start a flame war with Porsche. lol.
