2024 Lucid Air
I've had a Lucid Air for six months. Within the first month it was in service for 19 days as they attempted to fix the rear drive unit. I just received a recall notice. Any time I call service, no one ever picks up and I get redirected to customer care who only says they will call service for me and they never do. Lucid's customer service / service department is incredibly disappointing.

Have you used the app to contact service?

You can use the app to schedule service or call a Service Location. Just today, I contacted the Beverly Hills Service team today and they had the Costa Mesa service team call me back. Took 20 minutes.

Tried that - no response. Might be a Bay Area issue. Only way I was able to get any help was to call the sales rep who sold me the car. He was unable to get in touch with service for over 4 hours. He tried calling and even messaging his co-workers on Teams. Seems incredibly dysfunctional that Lucid employees are not even able to get in touch with the service department. So disappointed on so many levels. Others seem to have had good experiences with Lucid, but I fear my Lucid Air is a lemon.

The Millbrae service center is swamped with vehicles to be serviced during the holidays. They are trying to return the Airs back to their owners and not sit on them without any work being done. I have a service appointment scheduled 3 months ago, and it had to be rescheduled to next month.

I'd understand if this was my first attempt at service. In July, had my Lucid Air for two months and 547 miles driven (see pic). Car died in SFO's parking garage. Completely inoperable. Tried desperately to contact anyone at service before boarding a flight. Took two days for service to respond and their response was "how are we supposed to get your car out of the parking garage". Incompetent service and impossible to get in touch with a human.

This has not been my experience at all. One point-of-order/request: please keep your threads contained to a single thread. It makes it harder to help when your issue is spread across multiple threads, and it's explicitly against the guidelines. Please don't take this to mean I'm trying to shut you up - I'm not. I just want to keep the forum organized so you can actually find the help you seek.

With that said, who have you spoken to at Millbrae? What have they said, specifically? What is the issue with your car? You mentioned a recall; which one? It is not like them to not respond at all.

Just noticed yet another third thread. Please don't do this again, because it really does make it hard to track and help. I promise, really, I'm not trying to give you a hard time; you're not wrong for being upset.

Call or text service, leave a message , they will contact you. Good question, if we had a car broken in a parking garage and we are away, how would service get to the car? Without the owner, this would be impossible, unless the car ignited and it’s an emergency.

Sorry, thanks for responding. I sent a longer response with more context on the other thread. Just seeking any help possible. Will keep to one thread - thanks for your help.

My car is also at Millbrae (rodents chewed through wires!). Was told Millbrae is their busiest service center, just way more Airs in the Bay Area. The crew is doing their best, but they are swamped. It took me a while to get a call back from them, after which they have been good responding via text. I heard anecdotally that the Sacramento service center is not nearly as crowded (if that is an option).

My guess is that Lucid is aware of the issue and looking for solutions (either expanding Millbrae or opening another Bay Area service location).

My friend has been contacting lucid cc but they haven’t got back to him. His issue is small and yet important. He needs to have front plates(front mount is missing)on as it’s mandatory in NJ. His temp tags are expired. Lucid scheduled him for mobile service but they never showed up. He is upset now and on edge to cancel Gravity order

I'll send him my front mount if he pays for shipping.

I’ve had the complete opposite experience with customer service. They responded promptly and provided excellent, detailed communication via text while my car was undergoing service.

For prospective buyers reading these threads or similar discussions, it’s important to remember that not all experiences are doom and gloom.

I have been driving for the past 15 years in NJ without front tags (Ferraris, then a Tesla and now the Lucid) and have never been pulled over. Let your friend know not only to not worry, but to consider not even bothering to instill his front plate…the car looks better without it.

I also dare say that canceling his Gravity order over this seems to be a bit of an overreaction. My last three cars all went past the expiration of my temp plates. That’s the NJ DMV for you. Each time I called my dealer (Hyundai, Tesla, GM) and they gave me another Temp Plate until my real ones arrived. Well, Tesla didn’t, I was never able to get ahold of them. No big deal…

Yeah - I had called KOP on his behalf. Spoke to front desk and she said she is going to ask around to expedite the install. Hopeful she follows thru.

I said the same thing. Heck, I offered him yo install his plates which he agreed 😅

If you search the same threads, there is a complete any that makes stickon replica plates and hat are legal. I have one in NY with no problems, and no holes in my front bumper.

I put some 3M PPF over where the plate goes. I then bent the plate slightly to match the contour of the front bumper and installed the bare plate with 3M VHB double sided tape.
From what I understand the vinyl replica plates are only legal in CA (and only a select few suppliers). My understanding is NYS requires their plate be unmodified (so my slight bending could be a violation), issued by DMV, uncovered, mounted between 12 and 48 inches above the road and the rear plate must be illuminated.

I had the same issue; I don’t have front plates (because when every single Tesla around me in CA has no front plates, who cares), but it took longer than the expiration to get my permanent tags. It was fine; no cop is going to arrest you for temp tags while you await the DMV to send you permanent ones. Worst that happens is you get a fix it ticket and have to take a trip to the DMV, but even then - you’d have to have already pissed off the cop, usually.

But this is NJ :P

No, that’s not true. To my knowledge, only CA offers a legal license plate wrap. Replicas in other states are *not legal* and this is worse than not having a front plate at all, as they could argue it’s a forgery.

Correct, bending it is illegal. This is specifically because cops will often aim at the plate with a laser gun, as the laser needs a flat surface to reflect back properly. They also try to use the headlights, but… the Lucid doesn’t really have those either haha.

The bending is technically a violation, but whether a cop cares is a different story.

IANAL, etc.

Have you been able to get in touch with anyone at Millbrae? There's no longer an option to leave a voicemail for anyone at the service or customer care department? Tried calling during normal business hours on Saturday and today. Trying to get an update from service and all the phone lines are down. I've tried texting and messaging customer care, but not getting a response. Really trying to get in touch with someone at Lucid before their employees are presumably out for Christmas.

Oregon also requires front and back license plates. However, I have not had a front license plate installed on any of my cars in the last 36 years. In fact I was once pulled over for speeding and the cop ignored the missing license plate as well. Only in downtown Portland when you are parked will the meter maids issue you a ticket for missing plate. Otherwise the cops don't care, and I have never had a ticket for not having one in over 3 decades. By the way, the car looks way better without one.
