Anyone else encounter a strange tear in seat upholstery?

They’re picking up the car, bringing it to Plainview and I thought it was to replace the seat. But if I misunderstood, and it’s replacement of the cover only, I’m okay with that too.

Hello All,

I've had my lucid air pure for a out 3 months now. I just discovered this tear on my driver's side seat. It's strange in that I do not carry anything sharp in my pockets and have no recollection of anything being caught. It's very cleanly torn along the perforations of the leather. The leather there seems particularly thin and under high tension. Has anyone else encountered a tear of this style and location?

Just found one this morning that was not there yesterday. Do not carry anything in back pocket. Has anyone had success getting this fixed?

Contact service. Assuming this is Purluxe, and not leather, this is a known defect and they will replace it under warranty.

my care is 9 months old and my driver seet start showing same deterioration, I called customer care and they told me warranty does not cover upholstery and trim becuse it is under weare and tear. I am not happy about it becuse I am very sure it is not something I caused . I think it is a design and quality problem.
after several emails with Lucid customer care assistant manager" James" who refuse to take care of the design and quality problem in his product, a service center manager called me and offer to replace the upholstery for free charge. I was very impressed by their first-class service, they arrange to tow the care on a flatbed tow truck to do the repair and bring the care back after 3 days. Thanks, Lucid.

You are not alone. Drive side I see a crack too. I had to really spread the seat bolster to take the picture. This crack was well hidden. Only a detective wife of mine could uncover it.

I had a similar issue and the SC ordered a new seat back cover. After installation it looks like new.

While not a crack the passenger side seat on my 2022 GT (June 10th) has enough wear to start to develop a crack soon. Mine is on the non perforated section that does not even touch any body part. Lucid said it’s not an issue or a covered item. This is the Houston Region (TX). We drive this car no more than twice a week. Still have not made it to 10k miles. The car sits in the garage.

2024 Touring with leather, just discovered a tear in the rear passenger seat near where two parts of the bolster are stitched. Have people had luck with getting the leather replaced under warranty? Mine has 4k miles and new since August 2024. Houston SC also.

I’ve had this happen to me…twice I’m in the same boat I don’t ever have anything in my pockets and I mostly wear lululemon sweat pants or occasionally jeans. I work from home so if I leave it’s to go to the gym, or run errands so I’m always just throwing sweats on to run out. Literally have no idea what could have caused the first tear but now that I got a second I would agree about the thinness/quality of the leather itself.

My driver seat was replaced due to this leather tearing design issue. However I noticed the tear within 2-3 weeks of ownership and reported to the VA studio.

The Purluxe leather is particularly fragile. Mine is currently being replaced. The tear was in the exact area as the pictures in this thread.

Purluxe is NOT leather. It is a synthetic material that is designed to mimic leather. One can argue about the quality of different leathers and synthetic alternatives but Lucid offers leather seats and Purluxe seats, not Purluxe leather seats.

I have a problem too. And the way it is cracking seems to be because of a thin fabric/leather.

It is cracking between the bolsters.

Who said its leather? I wrote exactly how Lucid describes it. Every major manufacturer offers their own (p)leather version of synthetic material. My comment there was to highlight that Lucids pleather is particularly fragile.

I wasn't commenting on the quality or thickness of Lucid's "PurLuxe leather alternative".

I've seen these issues noted many times, and they seem to reference issues with both PurLux leather alternative and real leather. The extreme 'hit or miss' nature of the problem makes me wonder if a supplier change is at the heart of it (where the problem would have started or stopped around a particular point in time) or if Lucid has multiple suppliers delivering varying qualities, and it's a 'luck of the draw' kind of thing.

My car was built in 11/23. Its PurLux interior still looks like new, and it at least seems to be robust material. (Let me quickly concede that it's a lot easier to judge thickness and layering when looking at a tear.)

When I see the location of many of these reported tears, I get the feeling that either back pocket rivets or zippers are not the problem, yet many seem to insist its not.

I'm not sure how they would, but does anyone know any supply chain history of Lucid's upholstery? Maybe something your service center told you about it?

I haven’t actually seen any reports of a rip in the leather. Maybe one.

All the ones I’ve ever seen were about Purluxe.
