V2H Coming Soon

thats not my point @borski ; my point is when someone says "I can't wait for V2H to be released!" and another response with "it won't even be useful bc ur car isn't charged enough"
If that was directed at me, you misunderstood my meaning. I am fully onboard with V2H, but my statement was simply a factual comment that if you were low on charge and that occurred concurrent with a power outage, the V2H would have limited usefulness. Obviously a decent charge would yield far more positive results. Nothing cynical implied.

You could always drive to a DCFC, charge up, then come home and plug in to house.

Good thought, and it does show that inverters are cheap. BUT, the trunk outlet only provides 15A or so. That would provide only 180 Watts Max. We need direct access to the HV traction battery, via appropriate safety devices. Assuming an 800V battery, 2 KW would only require about a 2.5 Amp draw, plus inefficiencies.

I can't wait until V2L (and of course V2H) is supported. But I agree that fixing the software bugs is higher priority.

It would be cool if the Range Extender could be converted to a 240V outlet, but the web site states it can only be used to charge other EVs.

Interestingly, if you have 120V receptacles (Tech or Power package), you theoretically can convert to 240V then feed your house through a generator inlet with additional hardware. In a nutshell, plug in an EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 into the 120V receptacle, then use its 240V output. I haven't tried it (honestly a bit scary to run over an extended time period), but kinda cool.

Boy, really would have been nice to have V2H this weekend...

Every house we put a whole house generator in, we rarely ever lose power again. Seems like generators are like property insurance - pay for something you might never (or rarely) need!

We installed 25kWh of home batteries along with solar. It's a comfort to have. I'm also eagerly awaiting being able to augment that storage with V2H, but have recently eased into maintaining patience as it seems that the entire industry is still a year or two away from settled standards and associated implementations. The hardware has been available for years.

Just give me PIAG (Pretend Its A Generator). That is: A plug into the LUCID and a 25' heavy duty cord terminating in a bunch of 120 V outlets, 2-5 KW total. (Perhaps have a deluxe version with some 220 V outlets.) No connection to the house panel, so this thing would escape most of the evolving standards issues. It would make my LUCID AIR act like a Harbor Freight Generator.

I sense here that we have an issue analagous to the key fobs and locks: A search for the ultimate solution, while missing a simple path covering many needs.

I feel for you Cosmo. We used to live in Philadelphia for a little over two years in the mid 80's. I especially remember freezing rain and black ice. Did a 360 spin on the Schuylkill Expressway in traffic. Thankfully I never left my lane and continued in a forward direction with cars all around me. Miracle. And on topic we have been waiting way too long for the V2H promise to be kept!!

Lucid's failure to make good on yet another promise notwithstanding... if some third party came up with what @Steve181 describes above, I would buy it in a New York minute. If Lucid finds that they can't make good on their original commitment, distributing one of these stopgap solutions would be a responsible thing to do.

Hi Lefty
Was it you that said that a high level executive assured us that V2H would be out at the end of 2025? Is that executive still with the company? 😬

It’s been reported that it’s coming the first half of this year. It’s well overdue but I guess come July if it’s not delivered they'll have some public explaining to do.

For comparison, here are some marketing materials from competitors' V2H/V2G programs.
BMW's wallbox size hints they may be using an AC-coupled EVSE like Lucid's.

Ha! Ask @SaratogaLefty what he would have to say about that being reported...

Do you think we have any chance that some third party will come up with a Lucid-compatible CCC plug-in with a heavy duty cord terminating in a bunch of 120 V outlets, such as what @Steve181 described?

That should not be hard, since no transfer and backflow protection would be needed. I wish that LUCID would not make perfection the enemy of very useful.

If that's the case, one would think that a company like Lectron would get one to market ASAP. A lot of people seem so disillusioned waiting for the V2H/V2G planets to align that they (like me) would gladly spring for an interim solution.
