Using The Valet Key Card

I may be late to the party here but I have confirmed there is a way to start the Lucid Air with only the valet key card.

- Unlock/Lock: Tap the card on the B pillar just above the camera.
- Start/Drive: Bypass the PIN by tapping the card to the right of the center microphone array (See picture)

This allows the valet, car wash, or other guests to use the car without the key fob or your PIN

@experiment458 - If I use this method, will it effectively unlock all of the instrumentation, allowing changes to be made to the various configurations, etc.? And if so, is there a way then to link a valet card with a specific profile, to at least avoid unwanted changes to my profile?

The valet card cannot be linked to a profile, only the fobs and mobile keys can be linked to a profile.

My question is how would a valet or car wash person know how to do that?

The way it works is that you give the valet the card, and ask the valet if they know how it works. They say yes. Then when you pick up the car, the valet goes to get it, walks back, and asks you why the car won't start. I learned all this when the Model 3 first came out.

Or the valet you gave it to is on a break or has left. And the new valet is looking for a key or a fob, and has no idea what to do with a card. I just give them the fob.

It's in the user manual and it came up in another thread about valet access and pin codes.

While this work around works…. It is not documented in the latest online manual. Great to know especially when you forget your own pin. Is there any other uses for the pin?

Thank you for this thread. Yeah, super non-obvious and I was going crazy and thinking this can't be real. And abs-effing-lutely, using the valet key should put the card in Valet mode. Valet mode should lock the glovebox and trunk and give the car maybe a 2 mi radius that it can be driven in. Because you know -- Ferris Bueller.

But the card is a key. What’s the difference handing them a key fob? Can’t expect them to remember a PIN

If the fob dies, I'd be more worried. But also it was shown to me that the fob does work even when dead. Just need to hold it to the b pillar and push door handles simultaneously. I have a video demonstrating a year ago on this forum.

My first attempt at using the valet card was also my last attempt -- at least until Lucid upgrades the experience.

I gave the card to the valet and showed him how to open the door using it, and also where to swipe to drive. I had put a piece of blue masking tape at the swipe location with the words "swipe here" written on it. And then I walked away.

But the valet couldn't get the car into drive because well, it asked for my PIN. So he ran out of the garage and asked me to come back. We got out of the car, locked it using the car, opened it with the card and then he got in and I directed him to swipe the card where the masking tape was. Of course it worked.

But when I went to pick up the car, the valet once again couldn't get the car into gear. I reminded him to swipe at the blue masking tape, but he claimed he tried that and needed the PIN. I needed up just giving him the fob.

So, Lucid gimme an ear. If someone is using the valet card, put the car into a valet mode. You know, not on my personal profile. Lock the glovebox. Lock the trunk and frunk. And for the love of all that is holy, show an animation of where to swipe the f***ing card on the main screen!.
