Software issues

I expected some teething problems with the car along the lines of the general software issues all of us are experiencing. Whistling air vents aside, I've actually been surprised to the upside at just how flawless the power delivery, the handling, the structural robustness, the fit and finish, and the comfort of this car are.

However, with cars now turning so much of their operation over to software, things such as frozen screens can bring an otherwise great vehicle to its knees. I've wondered what would happen if I got pulled for speeding and had to explain to the officer that I can't produce my registration because the glovebox in my shiny new car won't open because a computer screen is frozen.

I can never put my license and registration in the glove box.

Update today went without a hitch - first update after I took delivery failed and I had to have it pushed again. The last two have gone fine. Some minor issues - like the top right screen not coming on or coming on with static seemed to have gone away. Each update brings improvement though so far baby steps - hoping for something more significant soon.

Interesting, I’ve had very different experiences.

I find Alexa to be the worst of them. We tried swapping all of our google homes for Echoes at one point in the past year or two and we’re super frustrated over the fact Alexa just seemed to keep trying to sell us stuff vs actually providing useful information.

Siri seems to have very good recognition, but we run into limits relatively quickly with her.

Google Assistant is the most functional for us, although it sometimes will do weird crap with not quite providing what we asked for.

Fascinating! My experience is almost the exact opposite. Now I want to know what things we’re each trying to do! Haha

To be clear: I’ve never had any issues with home Alexa - the Alexa in the Lucid is garbage so far.

But I’ve also never had any of the issues @hmp10 has had. Minor slowness/lag, occasional bugginess (the massage seats turning off too early, etc) but nothing at all that annoyed me very much.

As of today I’ve put 329 mi on the car, in two days and have no buyer’s regret. :)

How do you get Alexa to make a call in the car? "She" tells me that calls are not supported.

Yeah, I haven’t gotten that one to work either yet - but I only tried yesterday. My car is in the shop getting wrapped, so I won’t have it for a week or so :(

What type of wrapping are you getting? Taking mine in next week.

You have to be 1) connected though Bluetooth and 2) signed into your Alexa account

If you have done what Hydbob mentioned above, then you say, "Alexa, call (name)" or "Alexa, call (number)." However, you'll probably get a varying list of responses, along with only occasionally getting a call put through.

I've heard, "there is no phone connected" (it was); "a phone must be connected via Bluetooth" (it was); "Alexa does not support that function"; "I cannot find the name you requested in your contacts" (although Alexa repeated the name back to me perfectly, and Siri had no trouble finding the name in my contacts); "there is no internet connection"; "I cannot help you with that"; ". . . . . . ." (total silence).

If you can command your phone directly by voice, I recommend you do that. Almost every time Alexa failed to make a call, I just said, "Hey, Siri, call . . . . ", and the call went right through. I do not even bother with trying Alexa first any more.

This discussion tickles me. I just remember years ago as a kid, I was the voice assistant as my mother would yell at us to do stuff. Lol
I am also amused by this discussion, in which we are complaining that our talking cars do not understand our commands well enough. David Hasslehof had a perfectly functioning talking car back in 1984...why don't they work properly anymore??

Done all of the above, still not working.

Stek DynoShield for the body, XPEL Stealth for the matte parts (there’s only a few), and cquartz Finest reserve on the painted surfaces and wheels/calipers. FlyByForte for the glass. Car Pro Dlux trim coating on the plastic trim around the car. CQuartz leather and fabric on the leather.

Alexa has some problems with speaking the phone number part of a text. In particular, it reads out a phone number as if it were a large number. For example, when a message comes from 5209998839, it is spoken out as
five Billion , two-hundred nine Million, nine hundred ninety eight thousand, eight hundred, third-nine Says ...
This is even with that phone number being associated with a name. Maybe the phone does not pass back the name, but it works correctly in other cars (without Alexa).

Ok, that made me laugh.

My goodness, didn't realize there were so many different surfaces and matching products to wrap!! I'm only planning the Stek for the body. I'll need to discuss the other items with the shop owner to see if anything else makes sense.
I am curious about wrapping the glass, in light of the surface coating and embedded material (sensors) that might be affected, perhaps?

Valet Key Function: I thought it odd when the techs who delivered my DE explained the operation of the valet key.

Most of the key fobs I've used had detachable keys used to lock off the glove compartment and access to the trunk before handing over the fob to the valet who could lock/unlock the doors and start/turn off the car. No problem.

Since I would be arriving at a destination having driven under my own profile, handing over the DE valet key to the valet would allow access to all the functions to which I had access. So, I concluded, I would need to turn the car "off" before handing over the valet key, to restrict access to my profile rights. Then, I came across this sentence in the DE Owner's Manual:

"NOTE: To drive the vehicle using only the valet card, you must enter the pin associated with the current user profile when shifting out of Park."

Surely they intended to same something like "if YOU want to drive using only the valet card, YOU must enter YOUR profile pin." But, the next page simply reiterated the need to enter the profile pin before the driver will be allowed to proceed. Why in the world would I provide my profile pin to a valet person?? Even if I created a dummy profile pin, all I can see is a shift in valet staff with no one remembering the pin number to retrieve the car.

Please tell me I'm missing something here.

Yea I could not understand that either. Unless they are planning a valet mode later. It's weird

I thought of the same problem today: Lucid picked up the car for service and originally I was going to leave them only a keycard. They said that would not be a problem for service, but they recommended that I also leave them the key fobs, in case they need to be reprogrammed. Also, after service they are dropping the car off at the PPF shop for me and I’m sure the people there would have a hard time with just a keycard.

Well, only sort of. The ceramic (CQuartz Pro) is generally optional and goes on top of the Stek (or the wheels if you want that). Ceramic coatings are: hydrophobic (easy to clean bug spatter, bird poop, etc.), adds some UV protection so your PPF doesn't yellow, slows down any permanent markings in progress (from bird poop you didn't see or were too lazy to wipe off, for example), adds a slight gloss, and just generally protects the PPF; I'm having mine ceramic coated everywhere possible, basically, on top of the PPF.

The glass coating is optional; you can just as easily apply Rain-X or similar to it; only lasts a year or so. The plastic coatings are optional too - OCDetailing uses them on every car, but they're...OCD. The leather and fabric is also *definitely* optional, and cheap; normally $500 or so bucks but OCD threw it in for me for free. I *probably* would have done it anyway, but you can also just apply a nice leather protectant and Scotchgard your floormats ‍♂️
