HERE maps, which is built into our Airs, is planning to add Waze-type realtime warnings into its navigation software, gleaned automatically from cars' onboard systems:
The idea is good. It is best to use data from the sensors in the cars in real time (without users entering data while driving) to guide other cars around hazards and traffic. The question is how many cars use HERE maps other than Lucid. As an end user, this is the first time I heard about HERE maps as an alternative to google maps. Just as Waze was absorbed into google maps and killed off, I hope the same fate does not happen to HERE maps with Google or Apple acquiring them.

That said, the mainstream google maps with the largest installed base and being installed as a part of Native Android Auto has the biggest promise to dominate given the installed base which even a company with very deep pockets like Apple is not able to match with carplay. I thought that IOS was built into Tesla and that standard would take over along with carplay but it did not.

HERE is used by several other carmakers and is owned a combination of Audi, BMW, Daimler, Mitsubishi, NTT, Intel, Bosch, Continental (wikipedia). Not likely that Google or Apple would buy them, as both have invested billions into their own widely used systems and have locked-in user bases.

Some AAOS licensees, including high end automakers such as Lucid, are not using Google's Automotive Suite (GAS) , and so must choose from third-party navigation providers such as HERE. GM, Volvo, Honda, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, and Ford have publicly announced deals with Google to deploy AAOS and GAS. Stellantis is the only carmaker among those not to use GAS.

I hope this means better navigation too. I still have to use waze to get a decent route

Audi, BMW, Mitsubishi will not have volumes like GM and Ford but VW is owned by the same company as Audi and they are big. Ultimately the more the installed base, the better the real time data. Competition is good.
