OTA Updates... or lack thereof.

I appreciate this thread as I have also noticed the slowdown of OTA frequency, especially those with features or fixes.

If I may share what came out of Tesla’s recent quarterly earnings analysis - today’s big EV players, with endorsement from Wall Street, is planning a pivot to subscription based software vehicle services and feature update, especially for those advanced services, perhaps what could be upcoming DreamDrive features. Of course, this would likely exclude software based recall and bug fixes (much cheaper OTA), but this experience of a car that gets better and more feature rich with free updates, turns upsidethe the standard OEM new model year construct of obsolescence. Economically, us Lucid owners have bought a car once and have thus far had Lucid bear increasing costs of their software development teams without additional cost recovery.

My forecast is that our vehicles will further be platforms designed to support a new subscription for features model that will become the norm.

I would value insights from @hmp10 and @Worldwide Beagle along with the others on this thread as they, to me, add thoughtful speculation as to why Lucid could be slowing down their OTA update frequency and what it means at a macro level.

Unfortunately, I'm too much of a Luddite when it comes to software to offer any useful insights on your question. Ever since the 2.0 UX changeover in October 2022 which resolved most of my software-related problems with the car (things as basic as getting the doors to open), my focus returned much more to the "automotive" aspects of the Lucid. I don't make much use of many of the software features it now offers, particularly those related to self-driving or advanced device connectivity.

After weeks of watching text message alerts pop up on the Glass Cockpit, one day I ventured to experiment by asking Siri to read it to me. I was surprised it did -- and did so flawlessly -- and even more surprised when I tried and found that it could transmit my oral answer accurately. I could come to love such things but have just not put much effort into exploring them.

I still say that the feature must've not been THAT important to people since...it's fairly easy to setup your own.
I think is #1 on Bobby's wish list.
And I beg to differ on "fairy easy" with all the additional cables, limited power sources, and wiring diagrams.
With 12 cameras it should be fairly easy for Lucid to implement.

Yeah, I learned from buying FSD in my Tesla. I bought Lucid for the engineering and handling. Any software improvements are a bonus.

Car is too good to complain about things like a dashcam in my opinion.
Dashcam. Have you ever driven in the City, Manhattan that is, or any large cities.
The delivery bikes, mopeds and such are mayor thread to your car.
They are coming from anywhere/nowhere.
Try to prove it to your insurance company that's not your fault.
Without the dashcam footage...Good luck.

I mean, it literally took 20 min to do it. So while it may be on the wishlist, it's no trouble at all if you REALLY think it's an important thing to have in your car.

Hiding all the cables and wiring, it took you 20 minutes?
Where do you live, I'll stop by for instructions :)

Yes. Good thing I already posted pictures of it on this forum for you to use 😁

I mean, it took me 2 minutes to hook up my Escort with a dashcam, but it's also $900 plus clogging my USB port.
That's NOT what I'm talking about.

A dashcam is relatively easy to set up. But that doesn’t give a ‘sentry mode’ sort of ability which I assume could be had if even some of the many lucid cameras were made available for that usage. That’s what’s on the top of my wish list now.

When I picked up my Air in Nov, the newest rumor was a completely new Apple CarPlay app that really meshed with the far right display screen. Have yet to see that, but would be nice if they fixed that interface and stabilized the platform.

Fixed it how?

I am patient, I prefer a well tested bug free update. This is the only EV I will have in the near future. The lines are getting longer at charging stations.

I fear the cash burn Lucid is going through. Not so much the hardware being obsolete. With computers on wheels, it is inevitable. But if company is not around, there is no option to upgrade to newer model. That is my fear.

But, that is the risk you take when buying from a new company. I am okay with that because I love the car.
I love Luci and have no complaints with how she is now. I can't think of any other features I want or need. I will never use self driving, assisted parking etc, I have too much PTSD from a head on collision 30+ years ago. I just want Lucid to stay in business so my car can be serviced until I die or am forced to stop driving. I am almost 70.

The app is glitchy and does not even naturally fit into the space on the display. The delivery rep said they had released a really nice beta version of a new CarPlay app, and it should be out soon. That was 5-6 months ago.

CarPlay is currently confined to a rectangular window. The delivery rep is full of crap.

Yup, but man, Having a carplay option for the big lower display would be pretty awesome and I think technically doable.
