Order now! Prices going up

Yes I have it in writing and sales agents have also told me that upgrading keeps same pricing unless they changed that recently.
dope, thanks! hope my SA gives it to me in writing in case they try to back track in the future, but seems like it's been going around enough and people have a track record of what's been told to them

Extra headache fur us canadians. There is a proposed luxury tax, from our socialist federal government, that could start on September 1st. Meaning that my 138K$ Touring would have an extra 8-10k$ of tax, in addition to the standard 15% tax which already amounts to around 20k$. So I'm planning to downgrade to Pure tomorrow.

Just contacted my SA to confirm I can upgrade back to Touring if the tax somehow gets delayed or excludes EVs.

Sorry to hear about the potential luxury tax! I hope that doesn't go through and you can move back to Touring! Otherwise we can compare our Pure's as that is what I plan to get :)

  • Grand Touring is going from $139,000 to $154,000 (up 10%)
  • Touring is going from $95,000 to $107,400 (up 12%)
  • Pure is going from $77,400 to $87,400 (up 12%)
Consider: Rivian’s pricing “adjustment” debacle, Tesla’s recent model S $10K price hike, Hyundai dealers boldly asking $10K over sticker for a $57K Ioniq5, M-B dealers (at least some) asking $178K for a $135,000 MSRP EQS580 Pinnacle. If Lucid had a dealer body, they’d be asking numbers we would not want to see.

This post should be taught in social studies classes as to why over taxing can create counter effects. Taxes go up, buyers downgrade or cancel, orders go way down, companies layoff employees and the government has less taxable goods because less people make purchases. Economies eventually go into recession. Bad for everyone, except the politicians who wage war on the middle class. Yes, this is over simplified and not intended to be political.

I really hope this does not pass and you get your Touring. It’s also kind of amazing that at a time where gas prices are way up, they would not exclude electric cars from the luxury tax. They should actually provide an incentive for EV purchases.

Ideally those tax funds would be used for public goods and services such as education, roads, medical care. Can check examples of countries with high tax rate but also high social welfare. But we know how inefficient and corrupt most governments are and without proper checks those welfare benefits are easily abused too 😇 Either ways, there has to be some balance and anything extreme on either direction could be bad.

Idk about Canada but we do get $7500 tax incentive here in the U.S. so that has to come from somewhere 😇

Is there no EV tax credit in Canada? Any home EV charger installation tax credits that might offset that massive tax bill? Rhode Island has a car property tax but they’re phasing it out. I feel the 7% car state tax we have already was quite a large sum on this car.

I have no comment on various versions of socialism or capitalism or whatever because too much of it is a mish mash of influences that benefit some and harm others, but in terms of trying to get the public to do something that is good for the environment, I cannot think of any better way than some sort of economic incentive.

The EV tax credit, of $5000 (federal government) applies only if the value of the vehicle is below $70,000. There is also a provincial one of $7000, but only for vehicles below $65000.

The luxury tax is obviously just for the show. I mean the 100 grand is quite an arbitrary figure just to impress the middle class.

@Drendino's reply above total reflects my feelings about the effectiveness of this tax.

I think the U.S. might be in the works of limiting the tax credit to apply up to a certain car price point only.

Sorry about the luxury tax. One of the common rules of economics:

”Whatever you tax, you tend to get less of: whatever you subsidize, you tend to get more of”
