Well my-oh-my an Oh Happy Day! I think I'm finally getting to the bottom of the poor phone-as-key (Mobile Key).
NB: I've been off the forum for a while and if someone else has come to the same conclusion, I apologize for the redundancy.
Let me backup. In this thread there are numerous posts by Lucid customers complaining about the Mobile Key. I'm one of them. There is even "An Open Letter" to Lucid management. The "open letter" was scathing.
While many of us are very annoyed, others tell us to take a chill pill. You see, it's winter time and standing outside the car in minus degree weather does not generate love between the owner and the vehicle. Some even doubted that the problem exists...insinuating that people complaining about this are overreacting. Some sent us down what appears to be a blind alley with denigrating Bluetooth in general; saying that Bluetooth is inherently unreliable. Facts about no problems with T*sl*'s Bluetooth working fine being non-persuasive to theme. Yet, I know they mean well..
Well...we had a call to service today about different problem. And, the customer service rep (CSR) said, "Is there anything else?" Thinking I wouldn't get anywhere, I mentioned the Mobile Key issue just for grins.
Finally, a response that makes sense. According to the CSR, the Lucid uses, for at least part of the unlocking, a 4G network from a certain network operator (I'm not mentioning their name because maybe someone would get in trouble for being candid with me). Many of us have asked for a statement about frustrating Mobile Key from Lucid only to have those requests fall on deaf ears (dead pixels?). Maybe there is a non-disparagement clause in some contracts.
But the use of a 4G network by a specific network operator might explain why some customers have problems and others don't. Maybe we poor souls operate in a geographic area where that network operator does not have good coverage. It would also explain why some of us have worse luck when in a garage. Our particular garage is almost underground. The 4G might not be getting through.
Finally, I'm an owner and a shareholder. I have no incentive to gripe. The problem is a real nuisance and it is not a product of our imaginations. Here's hoping that Lucid comes up with a fix or, at least, a workaround and more candor.
