A friend who bought a Volvo XC30 a couple of months ago just called in a panic. He was taking his first road trip across Florida to Miami and returning home, planning to charge at the Tesla Superchargers on Snake Road (the only EV charging facility of any brand on the 110-mile stretch of I-75 (Alligator Alley) between Naples and Miami. That Snake Road Supercharger location was installed a little over a year ago.
When he arrived at the Superchargers, every charger had a sign on it saying "For Tesla Charging Only". He had recently received the correct adapter from Volvo, and he has used it successfully at local Superchargers to test it. When he plugged in, he got a message saying "Connection Established" but then just a spinning circle with no charge commencing. He tried several charging spots, all with the same result.
He called me to see what I knew. I checked the Tesla website, and the Snake Road location is listed as open to NACS Partners. It also has a notation that reminds you that an adapter is needed to charge other EVs.
He is back on the highway at much reduced speed, hoping to get to Naples for a charge before the final 30-mile leg further north to his house. We're waiting to hear if he made it or whether we have to fetch him and his cousin off the side of the road.
This is what I just pulled off the Tesla website about that station:

I know I'm a broken record to some of you about this. But after owning two Teslas, I'll say it again: don't trust a f***king thing they promise.
