Lucid CEO teases mid-size in development

I bring forward a petition to change Alfa and Maserati’s tagline to “Beautiful Garbage.” It fits, especially for Alfa’s cars!

It's why I chose Audi R8's over their Lamborghini stable mates. I've just seen two many videos of them bursting into flames. In the latter two I got the Lamborghini V10 with a body and suspension engineered and built by Audi. In the eight years I owned three of them, the only issue I ever had was a failed suspension sensor on a right front wheel (and that was on an early first-year production unit).

I suspect Volkswagen Group's fit-and-finish in the Audi plant are a little more regulated. My wife having owned a Bavarian Motor Werks Z3 M, I can say tolerances are very tight and accurate, however there are interesting electronic gremlins, some intentional, that pop-up. A decoder is vital to save your wallet with those, and a reset tool (separate airbag and ECU) as they can but Check-Lights on your dash because "It's been a while" since you've been to a dealership which is set on both a timer and odometer. Been 2 years since you've been? Oh, well, airbag sensor light goes off. Why? Turns out, "just because". BMW tax due. I believe Mercedes is equally as guilty.
I stayed away from Lamborghini because the Gallardo had, I believe, sensors for brake width on the caliper that would get brake dust on them (oh really?) and get dirty and no longer read the width and create a check-brake light on the dash and suddenly brick itself, stranding you to the greedy tow-people demanding "nice car" tax.

Luckily, the Lucid looks like a 1990's Ford Taurus so no one takes a 2nd look.

Hmmm…I really don’t agree that the Lucid looks anything like a Taurus…I assume you were joking?
Well, let's compare.. on the left is the delectable 1993 Ford Taurus and on the right is the 2022 Lucid Air Dream

(Laughing..) The average person doesn't really know much about cars or cost or Hp or lateral-g's, etc. I usually tell them it's the new Ford Taurus.
People who rent a Mustang at a car-rental place are often excited, "It's a Mustang" when they're getting the $29k 2.3 Liter, 4-cylinder version versus a GT 500 for $128k.
They have no idea the price differential.. it's just "a Mustang" and are happy. They see a Mustang and go by shape.
Same with Corvettes. You can spend $55k or $185k but they all "look the same".
Personally, I like to downplay it.
I let people off-the-hood after a few seconds and explain it's a Lucid Air, to which point they ask, "Who makes that?"
Of course I explain, "Lucid" makes the car, the "Air".
They then ask, "Is that Ford or Dodge or GM?" Sigh.

I apologize. Yes, you're right.

The mid-size seems to be a small SUV crossover as far as Pete has shown, with production to be 2026. I suspect a prototype to create hype will be more revealed by October by my guess.
Price-point is under $50k, probably a Pure-version that will be around $48k.

I did some image analysis and the mid-size seems to be about 3/4 the size of the Air and about a foot taller, give-or-take, and about 6" thinner. Looks like it has room-enough for a 3rd row optional fold-down seat for that 3rd row for 2 people (cramped but possible). I think the back two seats will likely only be able to handle 2 as well, making a total of potentially 6.

I think it'll be touted as a commuter Crossover similar to the Cadillac Optiq but larger than a Chevy Bolt by a little bit.

Cadillac Optiq by comparison.

More AI rendering of a potential Lucid "Earth" midsize crossover. These are just feelers and NOT real. This one is generated by the website indicated.

I gotta love some elements of AI. I just asked Gemini to create a two-seater that blends the best features of the Lucid Air and the Chevy Corvette.

"About 90% of my work right now is on three vehicles that share one mid-size platform. One of the main new products is an on-road, urban-focused, driver-oriented CUV with Lucid’s core DNA of space, efficiency and range, and the pure joy of driving. The second is more of a rugged crossover with a capable, weekend/outdoor focus and the third is in the SUV category. That’s where we’ll have the biggest departure from what you know today as Lucid."

Unfortunate one of the 3 cars coming out isn't a sedan.

What is the 3rd car? Are we sure it’s NOT a sedan?

He said all 3. They are all crossovers basically:

Ahhh, sorry I missed that. Hopefully the CUV is more Sedan than SUV!!

Kinda looks like the Polestar 3
I think the Polestar 3 looks very good from the outside. Then, one day, I went in and took a look at the inside. Everything on the screen to the side of the driver. Not for me. I want buttons and switches for things I tend to adjust or want to adjust while driving.

The Gravity is about the same size as a BMW X5. So the midsize needs to be somewhere in the compact SUV category something like the Genesis GV60 or Mercedes EQB in size. I am sure that Lucid will "decontent" it compared to the Gravity. I just hope that it will have a luxury option available to recontent it, albeit at a price.

I do like the climate control switches on the Air & Gravity. Sike have said a glove box button would be nice. And yet, depending on what you keep on that glove box, driver control may not be a bad thing.

A compact and midsize aren't the same. Two different categories. Also relative terms. Depends on a car maker's lineup of cars. I'm seeing the Lucid midsize as being larger than compact GV60.

Genesis GV80 will be considered midsize in Genesis lineup compared to GV90. The Gravity is considered large three row suv, but it is 4" longer than GV80. And yet Gravity is an outlier. A midsize exterior with interior space of large suv.

Lucid calls the Air a full size car, but it is still 4 inches shorter than a 5 Series which is a "mid size" car. I wouldn't be surprised if the "mid-size" ends up being slightly compact.
