Lucid Air 2.8.9

I agree that 2.8.9 is a step back in terms of Hands-Free Drive Assist with DDPro. I constantly get the "Takeover Now" warning and then a rude jolt before dropping down Drive Assist mode. I don't know how many others have experienced this.

Happened to me once the first time I used Hands-Free after 2.8.9. I did a second logo reset, and it has not happened since. (I say a 'second' reset, as I make it a practice to do one after every OTA update. In this case, it appears that once was not enough.)

I'll summarize my issues with 2.8.7 and Lucid hasn't been able to push 2.8.9 to my vehicle since it lost cellular reception and won't scan wifi networks :(
  1. Screens randomly shutting off: All three screens (instrument cluster, center, and passenger) occasionally go dark in the middle of a drive. This is extremely dangerous as it leaves me without critical vehicle information or controls.
  2. Drive Assist malfunction: Both Drive Assist and Hands-Free Drive Assist are not functioning at all.
  3. Steering wheel button lag: The buttons on the steering wheel only respond after multiple presses, making them unreliable while driving.
  4. Software performance degradation: The overall software responsiveness has significantly declined over the last 6–8 months. I’m unsure if this is related to a hardware issue (e.g., chip performance) or a software update, but the experience has noticeably deteriorated.
  5. Multiple warning messages: The vehicle frequently displays various warning messages and alerts on the screen, even when no apparent issue exists.
  6. Charging interruptions: The charging session starts and ends repeatedly—sometimes hundreds of times—overnight, even when connected to a stable charger.

I'm noticing a massive change in regen...
FWIW, I've noticed the same. 2023 Air Touring, smooth mode, maxed out regeneration, traveling over usual routes, significantly less regeneration when the battery level is high.

... significantly less regeneration when the battery level is high.

Think of charging a battery as you think of breathing:
when you try to take a really deep breath; filling your lungs to full capacity: it's hard and takes longer. When your lungs are completely full you can't take on more air.

Same applies when charging a battery to 100% = it requires more effort and takes longer.
Also the battery gets hot and swells. You can not fill the battery more when it's already full.
Hence = no regeneration when battery is at high SOC. If your battery is at high SOC (no regen) = braking will take longer.

Take it easy. Breathe normally. Limit your charging to 80% SOC unless you need the extra range.

This is in the owner's manual.

Regen is also reduced as the battery gets cold, which is indicated by the dashed lines on the left of the power meter. Once the regen line gets more than 50% dashed it also puts a warning on the dash when you put the car in drive that Regen is reduced.

I also had a problem in the recent past receiving an update. I had always had my car connected to my home's wi-fi but was advised to turn the wi-fi off in the car and leave it off. Since then I have received two updates without any problem. Perhaps that might help your situation??

Is 2.8.9 still going out or have they stopped it like they did with 2.8.7? I got 2.8.7 a couple days after it started rolling out and am now dealing with a blank screen every morning and regen that is almost non-existent at any state of charge (I never charge past 80%). All the previous releases have hit my car within 2 to 3 days of release. 2.8.9 started rolling out 2 weeks ago and still nothing for me.

Ok I've been getting that app alert over and over too, once the car is done charging it starts sending that over and over again. Drives me nuts. I went to the App store to see if it was just me and noticed reiews are disabled on the Lucid app too. So hard to say if its the app version or the car.

I have been testing different drive modes and regen setting for the past week or so. I am seeing a huge uptick in efficiency in Smooth mode--even though the weather has been quite cool here. I'm seeing .2+ increase in efficiency in Smooth mode with Standard regen.

Anybody have an issue where you precondition the car and the seats don’t actually precondition as set, but then the HVAC controls are stuck on OFF OFF for a little bit when you get to the car?

Has anyone with 2.8.5 gotten 2.8.9?

I’m wondering if it’s just a patch for people with 2.8.7.

I was at 2.8.5 and having many of the problems noted for both it and 2.8.7... an early in rollout 2.8.9 OTA was installed. I was never on 2.8.7, having it withdrawn before it was installed.

I certainly had a weird one.. might be 2.8.9 or something else. My car is a 2023 Air GT, low mileage bought from Lucid. It's been a great, trouble free car for more than 2 months.
Today, leaving the house I noticed the nav map froze. Then I noticed I could not get any of the streaming stations working.. and there was no cellular signal visible on screen.
Drive Assist was also non responsive. Car was driveable, but I felt a little naked. Logo reset had no effect. Tried customer service number and got a real person within a minute, which was refreshing after 7 years with Tesla where humans are not an option.
The person at Lucid suggested a steering wheel reset, which I had not done before. She walked me through the process, and after it was complete all systems came back normally.
First, I'm thrilled to have the car running normally again. Have no idea what caused the issue, but was thrilled to get a real person in under a minute. That was real, human based service. If this issue keeps happening, I probably won't feel so charitable, but it was great to have what seemed a serious problem with several systems falling apart, and get a calm voice on the phone walking me through the steps to fix it. A subsequent drive of about 24 miles was uneventful.

As Lucid gets larger and I hope more successful, I pray human touches like this will persist, and not give way to AI chats and endless phone trees. Thanks Lucid, for saving the day.

Could be related to some of the other online services that failed the last few days too like Sirius and the “offline” app things. The cars are always online but they’re definitely using a third party which I heard was ATT unfortunately.

That's a fantastic analogy.

Exactly why Lucid trumps Tesla every day.....most people dont need FSD...and when I hear " I prefer Tesla over Lucid because they have FSD" , I know they drank the koolaid.

Yes, I'm on 2.8.5. I never installed 2.8.7 thanks to the numerous posts here giving a heads up about all the problems. 2.8.9 has been nagging to install for a few weeks now.

And it will continue to sit there for a little while longer as faith in Lucid's software decreases by the second.

.9 has been mostly problem free

Had a weird one on a trip up to Massachusetts this past Friday. Started up Hwy 8 which is HFDA but only DA came on. However, I never felt the steering wheel correct for lane centering so I decided to go ‘hands free’ and yup it headed right across the line without any indications that it was aware of the road or traffic and no warnings at all. Get to where I’m going in Massachusetts and when I got to Hwy 8 again all of a sudden HFDA said it was available and it worked like a charm which means it never decided it wanted to take an exit to the right as it is wont to do sometimes. I figure that it reset itself when I had the car off.

Have 2.8.9 installed. Haven’t noticed any difference in regen but do notice that the screens seem to flicker as if it is having difficulty deciding upon what level of ambient light it is experiencing.

After 2.8.9 our AC has gone wonky. Driver side pinned to 59 degrees 10 fan, everything else off. Buttons light but don't do anything. Anyone else?
