LUCID Air Grand Touring
Hi Everyone,
I just got my Lucid Air GT two weeks ago. It’s got 21 in. Tires. Started to lose tire pressure in one of the tires last week.. drops from 42 to 35 every couple of days. I called Lucid Service and they said they don’t fix tires, they only replace them. I went to 4 different tire shops and they all said they don’t fix EV tires (some foam thing). Are there any tire shops that fix EV tires? (Near Orange County)

Do you know if it actually drops versus some issues with TPMS? If TPMS, I am assuming Lucid will address it. It is good to double check with a separate gauge.

Since your vehicle is new, you may be able to purchase a tire warranty at Discount Tire or America’s Tire. That is a very highly recommended step to do, especially for EVs. Worth a shot.

Thank you very much Tony. I verified the pressure is actually going down. I didn’t know I could purchase tire warranty! Great advice… thank you very much.

In general, tire manufacturers recommend against repairing high-performance tires. If it was a generic sedan tire, and the puncture is toward the center of the tread area, it could be patched.
Tire warranty certs from America's / Discount Tire are a great idea. They may also repair the tire if you wish, for free, best to discuss pros and cons with them.

They're probably referring to the acoustic foam blocks inside the tire that suppresses noise. That's not just an EV thing, as those tires are fitted on many types of cars.

Has anyone actually determined there is a puncture in the tire? In descending order of likelihood, it could be a puncture, a leaking valve, a faulty rim seal, even a wheel crack.

Punctures in or near the sidewall generally cannot be safely repaired on any tire. Puncture repairs anywhere on a high-speed-rated tire such as the Pirellis or Michelins on Airs are generally not recommended, and most tire shops will not do it.

Delaney and hmp10,

Thank you very much. This is very helpful. I scheduled an appointment today to get the tire checked and determine the best next step!

Have a great day and thanks again everyone!

Best,

FYI in case anyone reads this later. It turns out that I had a nail in the tire. Americas tires was able to fix it for free. However, I also found a bubble in one of the front tires. Not even 1200 miles yet. Tire replacement costs around $480. Buying the warranty certificate for all 4 tires was around $320. So all in with labor and taxes, about $850. All before I even make my first payment on the car. Obviously the beauty of the 21 in wheels comes at a cost! :-)

Does Lucid cover tire bubble related issues under warranty considering OP had a very new vehicle?

Nope. Could’ve happened anywhere the moment they left the Studio

I absolutely LOVE the look of the Air with 21’s. That said because of both range and the fact that I live on a dirt road mine is sporting 19’s…

21" low profile summer tires = you need to be careful and expect problems if you hit something nasty. It's worth it.

I think the biggest problem is under-inflation = sidewall bubbles. I run mine at ~ 44 psi. and check them regularly.

On topic I just had to throw away a factory 19" A/S because of a sheet metal screw dead center in the tread. The tire still had half a life but I consider any puncture a no. I can't believe how many screws and nails I've found lately ... with my tires...

Tires and gravity. Oh, and electricity.

Same here, except that I run them at 43 psi and check them once a week. In over three years I've had to change tires several times, once a full set due to wear, but more often replacing two tires on an axle because one of the tires was punctured by debris from the constant construction in our vicinity. I have used the Pirelli LM1's throughout and never had a problem caused by the tire itself. In fact, I have found them exceptionally long-wearing for the way I drive, retaining their exemplary wet and dry handling until quite late in the game.

Guess the LM2s are still bubble prone, eh? Glad I switched to the 20s 20k miles ago...
They aren't necessarily LM2s; the LM1s are still the default until they run out of stock.
